If you make the mask layer the same colour as the predominant colour of the skin, then filesize should decrease.

Like So

I find that very hard to believe.

sry but do u mean as in like : i used a white template to make my skin so do i use a white mask layer

also do i need to use a mask layer (i think i do cause when i work out how to use a mask layer it will make the skin lower in kbs)

Cheers.......

If the skin is mostly white make the mask white, if the skin is mostly yellow make the mask yellow (as per example above).

You don't need to use the mask layer at all, but used correctly it will decrease the filesize.

actually its the average colour that should yield the best results

ok i added the mask layer after i done and closed my skin so i think i went wrong there what i mean is i think i should of added the mask when i finished the skin and before i save the skin and closed it .

also i just drag and droped the mask into the skin when i opened it through GIMP

understand what i mean now

Thanks m8 thats what i was lookin for

silly me i used a black mask instead of white

u see i got the master skinners XRT_Pro kit and it came with a white XRT template and a black mask and a wireframe (witch i dont know how to use :schwitz

so i thought the black mask goes over the white template when i finished adding my pics/logos

maybe i have it all wrong

Cheers anyway m8

White, black makes little difference. Black should theoretically be smaller than any other colour. If your file size was twice as big using the mask it had nothing to do with the colour of the mask. Something else was wrong.
how do u add mask layer
Answered in your other post.
a mask layer just keeps things tidy. you could get away without it but with it its easier to see the outline of the car. really just a personal preference
No it's not just cosmetic, it can be used to help reduce the overall file size, as discussed in his other thread on this topic.
