Top Gear star richard hammond has survived another high-speed car crash - a year after the 288mph horror smash which nearly killed him. Hammond, 38, skidded off the track and slammed into a barrier at more than 100mph at Silverstone for the show. he escaped serious injury - but it revived terrifying memories of his rocket car smash on spetember 20 last year. hammond was taking part in a 24-hour Le Mans-style race for the new top gear series, along with TV pals Jeremy Clarkson, James May and The Stig. The BBC team were taking turns to race the £100,00 BMW 330 DTi Sport. More than 60 cars took part in the challenge, which began at 4.30pm Saturday. Hammond crashed just before midnight. The clearly shocked dad of two was comforted by sun columnist Clarkson as he emerged from the smashed car. A spectator said: "Richard was obviously thrilled to take his turn behind the wheel and was doing fine he suddenly came off the track. "there didn't seem to be another car involved - Richard was just pushing the car to the limits and lost control. "it hit a barrier at a fair old wack. he got it started again and limped back towards the pit lane. but the impact had wrecked the suspension and made a mess of the bodywork - leaving the penistone name looking a bit cheecky. "when he got out he looked very pale and shaken up. Clarkson put an arm around him. "he could just see memories of the jet car were flooding back and richard needed space." Amazingly, hammond got behind the wheel for another stint after emergency repairs. the star, who suffered nearfatal brain injuries in last year's smash near York, was unavailable to comment last night

Various news sites are totally blowing a small accident Richard had over the weekend in the Britcar 24 hour race at Silverstone out of proportion. Don’t fret — it was just a small collision he had with another car. Things like that happen during racing. They are just hyping it up to sell more papers and such.

You reckon a jet car has a roll cage? Or the BMW racing car? Do they often give roll cage speed ratings in Ireland, or are you just making stuff up as usual?

It's what happens with the job he does. Everyone crashes look at senna brilliant F1 Racer and it caught up with him but sadly it killed him.

Important Disctinction - Senna was a racing DRIVER, TG is full of motoring JOURNALISTS.

Fith Gear is full of Drivers turned Motorists, and while a team of Tiff, Vicky and Jason would kick everyones asses, they'd be boring as hell to listen to.

I know senna was a racing driver and TG is full of motoring journalists but i just used senna as an example

If the 24h race was from 7th - 9th of September, why are we hearing about it only yet? We have the 11th, you know...

Anyway, only if they had only done 1 lap each and The Stig would have driven the rest of the time, they might have had a chance...
