As mentioned, with most of the cars likely being availble in both flavours (were they to be real), it makes sense to be able to choose. If someone is bothered to keep swapping sides, let them. It would be a nice touch if certain cars were locked to one side though (UF1/LX/LX6 to the right, RAC to the left, for example) but not necessarily any better.
Some people here have MAJOR issues with what side of the car they drive on... It's quite sad to be honest. I mean. Your abilities to control the car are hampered by what side of the car you are on? Obviously these people think so, otherwise they wouldn't be bothered about what side of the car the wheel is on. I am from the UK, I prefer to be on the left of the car, but that doesn't mean to say after 5 mins in a RHD car I wouldn't be able to use the car to its maximum potential. It seems that some people deem themselves only to be good in their preferred side of the car to drive. This is very sad to me, if you can't enjoy driving because of what side of the car you are on, you need to remove your brain for some common sense. The reason there is an option for the different sides of the car, is because it doesn't matter. Sure forcing RHD or LHD may be tedious in some ways to some people but think about it? It doesn't make a damn difference.
For those who drove both in real life, is it hard to change? I was thinking, changing gears with my left hand sounds very weird. And someone has said (sorry I don't remember who) that whipers and indicators are also changed? Lol, I would mess it up big time
I was thinking bout the same yesterday when I saw a vauxhall with RHD. Dont really know how he could drive over here, like how do you overtake if you just cant see whats in the opposite lane? And for shifting, afaik the gears are in the same position, so 1st would be top left. I dont think I would ever be able to learn that..
HAHA get this:
Not so long ago I was in a shopping centre, and was heading to the parking lot. Its a pay-to-park stuff, so at the entrace you gotta push a button to get a ticket, and that thing is on the left side. So I was driving in, stopping at the car in front of me. Suddenly the driver opens the right door, walks to the machine to the left, presses the button, and grabs the ticket, and then walks back. Man, I never laughed that bad this year so far I laughed so hard I stalled the car like 3 times till I parked it
To be on-topic. I use both RHD and LHD depending on track. There are some tracks where you can gain several tenths by switching sides, and also effects the tyre temperature, and wearing. I also use wheel view. Not like I cant drive in cockpit, I just like the more view it offers since we cant move our head in-game like we do in real life. Cockpit view just wont make it more realistic for me.
