In need of some help choosing a laptop for my Mum. Basically she spilt coffee over her old one (about 5 years old) so has claimed off the insurance. Her previous laptop was a top of the range Sony Vaio in its time so the insurance are giving her about £1000 in a voucher.

The laptop is mainly a works laptop where illustrator and photoshop are used quite a lot so needs to be able to cope with that.

What can around £1000 buy laptop wise? What brands should I look at?

Dual-core processors, dedicated graphics, 2gigs of RAM, few hundred gigs of storage, and big 17" displays. I think those are some of your best choices from those sites. But I'll tell you now, I'm no laptop expert, I'm a desktop guy.

17" wouldn't call that a Laptop, look for a nice 14" or 12"

Hmmm, Stick the voucher on EBay and get a decent Laptop of Ebay , pocket the rest of the left cash, and buy a G25!
