It's a full time commitment, but (as they are their own bosses) they had a bit of a holiday for the latter part of 2005.
It's their only job, and their only means of income, and they work when they want. Scawen said it's a great feeling just sleeping til you naturally wake up, working til you feel tired, then sleeping until you wake up again - no alarm clocks in his house!
Er, kind of easy to do that as well when you work to a scheduled time too, like now. Well, I'm on lunch now, but this morning I wasn't. Then I have to catch up before I leave for the day too.
God, some of you are hard nose bastards arn't you.
To think that the Devs have developed a product here that despite being only an Alpha still has most of the competition licked in regards to gameplay (I know some of you purists will be heckling the use of the word 'game'). What these guys are doing in their personell lives are of no business to us, and you will find that as the community gets bigger they will become more and more aloof. It's a safety mechanizm, a way to not get distracted by petty arguements about kitchens and whether or not they are spending to much time with the family!! FFS people, the whole point of becoming your own boss is so you can spend more time with the family!! I am sure that the devs are more than aware of the responsibilities that they have for the paying customer. They have their business model and like all business' they want to make money. They ain't gunna do that by stalling the product untill all interest in it has wained. This stage of production can often be the hardest, you have the basic structure and you know what needs to be done. But doing all the fine tuning takes alot of time and discipline. Espeacially if you have a higher purpose than some of the big Dev Houses. The big three want to get things right, so I say let them get it right. It won't help one bit by trying to critique their every life decision.
They don't technically owe you anything either. We have all paid for S2 Alpha. And thats what we are all playing. I'm quite enjoying playing it. They have our money. Technically they could just up and leave like many Publishers would do, but I have confidence that they won't.
I quite like the fact the Devs don't keep saying we've done this and that. I like the surprise of coming home one night and finding a new patch to downloand.
When S2 Alpha came out I didn't know what to excpect and when I it up it blew me away. I was finding all these new features out as I played it and seeing them in action rather than reading them in words.
I don't really care if they keep posting news or not, because I know that they know best when it's time to tell us something, or to release a patch or whatever.
We - the players - will always want more and more info, even if they post news every day, ppl will not be satisfied. They will want more: screenshots, videos, patches, everything!
Well, we are all humans (most at least :P), we never can't get enough...
Also, I don't worry about new updates, as I haven't even had enough time to test S2 as it is atm. I'm still slow on all tracks, and all my S2 kilometers are in the range of what some ppl drive in one week or so.
Life's easier when you don't take things too serious. Don't take it too easy though.
I Paid for S2, not S2 alpha. I also paid expecting S2 to be released last year, yet were still waiting, with no/very little info about whats happening coming from the devs.
Nearly three quarters of a year after their planned S2 release date (summer last year was the original plan IIRC), and its still not here. I think its perfectly acceptable to wonder WTF is going on with the game.
Except this was all gone over just before xmas and Scawen answered quite ok at that time indicating he would be spending time in his social life and reno's etc. while doing some research and then after xmas would be getting back into it full time
And by the second week in January there's people screaming again
Wtf can you do in 2 weeks? or closer to home how much have you achieved in 2 weeks since being back at work? And if you don't work well that explains it illepall
I mean ATI with a team of people couldn't get it's new drivers fixed for LFS in 2 weeks so what do you expect in 2 weeks from Scawen, you know the situation before xmas if you read the forums (this very thread even), so you know there is alot to do still, so ffs give him some time and breathing room to do it I'd expect it to take 1 month just to do testing and experimenting with the tyre and areo physics before he even can start hard coding things...
Unless of course you really just want a half assed rushed job illepall
Personally I would like to see it finished as a very high quality product that will stay on my hard drive for a very long time mind you it's already surpased every other game I've ever owned in that regard
P.s. I just got woken up at 6am by my dogs fighting each other after staying up last night to 2am can you tell?
Maybe they post under aliases and ask for progress reports to get each other to work harder
Maybe they flame and troll and complain under aliases to keep interest up in LFS, and to encourage the community to gang up on undesirables to increase brand loyalty
Maybe they're so over the whole "I paid for S2 where is it come on where is it" thing that they hardly visit here at all anymore ...
I dont know, I'm not one to complain about something as good as LFS but I cant really blame people who bought a license and expect a formal means beside searching through threads to be kept up to date with any updates for the product they just purchased. I know everyone respects the devs and really cherish this piece of software called LFS. I rant and rave about it daily to people even remotly interested in racing on the PC. Only thing that troubles me is that sometime it seems as if the people who make inquiries on progress often get the "how dare you rush or bother our beloved devs" type of responses. I know it takes a lot of work to create a sim of this level of quality and it does take time, especially if the goal is to do things right. Many companies cannot obide by this core methodology becuase of the big business models. But here we have very talented devs who know a thing or two about sim racing and have shown us great potential. I think it's natural for people to want more of a good thing and I don't feel that inquiring about it is bad either. Sure, people will often overdo it and sometimes it's not even the same people asking. I'd have to assume that LFS is growing and people continue to aquire licenses. They have a right just as we do to open a thread about status reporting if they cant find information regarding progress anywhere. Who knows, this may keep the devs on their toes. Afterall, if no one ever said anything and just went with the flow, I think our wait could be longer.
I know the devs cannot post real progress reports becuase some things they may be looking to add may not turn out to be feasible after furthur research. However, I do feel that the devs aren't going at this thing blind and have some sort of gameplan. Why not communicate that to the people who don't already know? We all know physics are on the radar, so why not mention the things that are definitaly in the works in a central location at the top of the forums or at the main LFS site for anyone to read without having to dig through threads of this size. At least, this way things get updated once in a while and those of us who cannot spend 10 hours a day in the forums can come and get a quick update. Anyway, good luck devs, I know I'm looking forward to the next update.
You look at forums while at work :smash: you bad boy

Oops gota run here comes my boss
You have a point there joey... while i am very happy with the level of information that we get (i read the forums every day, um well several times a day, um even every time i go past the pc ) not all read the forums regularly and so would find it difficult to keep up, so yes it would be good to have all the info in one place... but then again all you need to do is a search for all posts made by Scawen It does seem to me also people read things then forget what was said a month later so maybe a sticky with a log of all Scawens posts would be the ticket
