Need your opinion
I am not looking for an answer at all. The thing I would like to know is what would you do if you wanted to be a Programmer but you also have a love for cars, when I says cars I mean, tuning/modifying. Why I ask this is because, I want to be a programmer, as I only have 2 years I will be leaving school but, if I don't make the grades to be a programmer, I want to start doing tuning and modifying cars.
I would like to know your opinion, I am thinking of if I dont make it as a programmer of doing tuning and car styling but also doing all diagnostics and all other computer controlled components and controllers in a car, so what would you do.

I will say again, I am not asking you to make my mind up for me, I just want to know what would you do.
Code the programmes that will make your chavvy mods to your Corsa?

I don't mean chavvy mods, I mean doing this properly like making show cars, instead of taking the time to explain it, the type of things westcoast customs does and maybe some hot rod building, also engine tuning isnt chavvy.

I know as soon as I say westcoast customs people will think what they did on pimp my ride but, they don't actually make cars like that as that was a style for the show, if you go on their site you will see what work they actually do. Yes I will still put bodykits on cars but they will be cars what have had a lot of money spent on them, well what the customer wants, cars you see in max power and that, yes I know people will say that as chavvy but they are the younger guys, older guys focus on proper stuff.

oh and I wasn't looking for a sarcy answer, I was looking for a mature and decent answer.
It was a semi-serious answer. It is a possibilitiy to make a programme that will help design and make these bits and bobs you want.

I only called them chavvy mods 'cause well frankly they are chavvy.

In this day and age there is high demand for both, but if you build parts for your own car to show them off, it won't really be a job. To make a company out of it will take shedloads of experience in more than just putting pretty parts on cars. Fibreglassing, spraying, mechanical, electrical... the list goes on.
Whereas a coder/programmer could lead you to doing allsorts in the computing industry, and get paid well for it if you're any good at it. But again you will need a fair bit of experience in that too.

In all honesty, your what, 14? You will change your mind more than you change your underwear in those 2 years. I never knew what I wanted to do when I was at school, and 6 years later I still don't.

I am 15, year 10. I made my mind up in year 9 when I was 14 as I liked creating websites and learning how to make programs. I know what I will need and there is also something called self learning as my dads gf knows a bloke who taught himself everything. One thing I will never do with body repairs if I can help is to not use filler as it does repair the car at all, it just it a cover, you need to pull it out then do something called lead loading what is a stick of lead and solder what will make it as good as new, a lot better then filler as it is not repairing the damage.

I have a love for cars but I also want to be a programmer, I could always learn both, could create websites and programs for people in my spare time whilst making programs for my machnical company whilst knowing about the car computer system.
Code/programme for cash, 'do up' cars as a hobby? Or vice versa.

Both for cash, I am going to see how it goes first, If I cant make the grades for a programmer I will go into full time tuning and car styling, have my own company, producing cars like what you see if max power for a business adverstising and also building cars for customers, may also go into building hot rods, but that will need some considering but hot rods aint that big in the uk yet. When I say modifying cars, I wouldn't really want to do them for the young as they want cheap tack and don't want to make a show car where the real older tuners/modifyers do, stylish expensive goods on the car. You will never see a 17 year old with a RX7 with the Veilside Fortune Body kit on what costs 11k unless they had some pretty well of parents and get spoilt.
It's good that you have goals and know what you want to do, especially at your age. It's not something that I think I really knew.

What I did was to simply do what I enjoyed and had fun doing. Fiddling with computers and code was my fun, still is, and is now my job/profession.

Do what makes you happy. This is the most important thing in life. Try not to pile on too many projects because you feel like you should be doing one thing or the other as backup. Regardless of what you do there is always another way out of any potential hole. If there isn't one you purely make your own exit.

If you can find the time to acheive both your goals then I applaud you.

You could well integrate the two activities, focus on your mechanics and write small applications, and scale them up over time, to help you with your mechanics.

However, at the end of the day you must be happy with what you're doing.
You don't need A* grades to be a programmer. You could leave school with nothing and still be a programmer. Grades just help, as future employers will see your a smart person.

Although he wasn't a programmer, Richard Bransom was a dumbarse at school apparently. Now look at him, rolling around in his ever increasing bank account.

Like TAA said, if you can do both, good on you.

Richard Branson is proberly still a dumbass, yes he has a well run company but he employs people to keep the company to keep on going and make it better, apperantly he did leave school at the age of 12. It says you need a certain grades to get into college but you then see these ads on tv the skills train where you don't need any GCSE's to become a programmer but to get into college I will need Maths and English C and higher and 4 other GCSE's.
I may the two into one, but still be able to make programs for small companies and websites for small companies and people or try to do what RB has done have 2 companies programming and the tuning/modifying business but this will be hard, I will need to see what is involved in the car industry with the computer side of things and what you really do with programming, like what do you create and who for, that way I will know what to do, I know what is involved with the manual part of being a machanic but not the computer part, I know there is diagnostics and the ECU, like the VAG-COM, but nothing else.
I got into college with only 1 C. Then again I only went to college 'cause they paid me.

Speak to people in both trades, I'm sure TAA on here will give you help with the coding business, as well as others.

You don't know if you don't ask.

I tried to type it as a hint of asking, proberly didn't do it very good though was watching Family Guy at the same time
