Quote :Almost every single landing and takeoff at TGU interrupts the flow of traffic along Boulevard hacia Loarque. There are two traffic lights on either side of the runway that stop traffic whenever an airplane takes off and lands. They do not normally stop traffic for small Cessna's or other small propeller planes; however, for jets and turbo-props traffic is stopped. The reason traffic is stopped is because of how low the aircraft must get to the ground on approach to TGU. They didn't always stop traffic though. It wasn't until a few years ago when a jet struck a passenger bus on approach that they finally added the traffic lights. There is only a 4 ft (1,2 m) tall fence separating the traffic from the runway.

Quote from Madman_CZ :Just watched this video on youtube, go to 2.34 of the vid, man the way that 747 approached the runway and landed was just crazy! amazing skill! wow

Thanks for the Link, great Video. I saw the Video of the 747 before, it is at Kai Tak airport in Honkong. You shold find it on Youtube somewhere.

Edit: Here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pIVjKoUewc (I'm pretty sure i saw a longer Version once)
Yeah, trully amazing and brave piloting. If i was on that plane I think I would have filled up a few sickness bags lol. Actually I would have probably shat myself tooo..

Can't say I am a confident flyer, I don't trust technology too much!
Quote from mrodgers :How awesome it wouldn't be? Unless that was a typo, that would be awesome to be on that beach. But then, I like flight simming and airplanes almost as much as sim racing and cars.

Believe me, when the first plane went by, you're away from there... The heat and the raised sand from those turbines scared all those curious away pretty fast...

holy crap that is one low approach
about that fence ... that reminds me of a small landing strip i was at a few weeks ago ... a freind of mine whos currently doing his commercial licence took me for a flight and we went to this small trip which had a road connected directly to the strip ... there wasnt even a fence or a kerbstone or anything to seperate the too ... wonder how many bikers get blown off their bikes round there

the traffic light thing reminds me of this super cool german traffic light:

Quote from Shotglass :and you still havent grasped what im on about in the ice thread but ive given up on that and chose to let it slide

Same as last time, I actually asked you to explain what's bugging you and it's whine after whine without explanation. Last time I checked I believe there was someone else who explained the exact same concept of driving sideways on ice as I did, yet no one whines. Hmm...
Quote from Madman_CZ :Not so good, I posted these vids on the page previously, watch the one what happens when the plane is taking off from that end of the runway. You wouldn't want to be on the beach then would you lol....

oops..that'll teach me not to look at the whole thread.

The shot at around 1.40 in the compilation vid on page one was awesome..people blasted in the sea

like i said last time read the bit that i quoted often enough to get what im on about

here it is for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... ;mode=related&search=

Ahh Princess Juliana Airport great vids on youtube of this airport, probably the most fantastic in the world (other than Kai Tak :razz surprised that that type of plane is taking off in that direction, considering theres a mountain (or a rather large hill if you're picky lol) at the end of the runway.
Quote from Shotglass :like i said last time read the bit that i quoted often enough to get what im on about

OK, the simple explanation. Since the tires won't generate lateral grip, turn the car and point it in the right direction so that using engine power and traction pull the car towards the inside of a corner aka use traction to make center seeking force.

Happy? Should be.

monster bump:

during the storm "emma" in germany yesterday a plane tried to land in hamburg and got hit by heavy crosswinds. the first try didn't work out, luckily the second one was successful and none of the passengers got harmed.

somebody managed to capture the first try: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ddb_1204404185

i guess i would have pretty wet pants after this kind of landing maneuver.

"Das ging beinahe in die Hose."
It says video not found after a short "buffering"
Btw, anyone know if A380 has started flying officialy? Now that is some scary sight, seeing that monstruosity landing or taking off..

Did the wings touch the ground in that video or not? Certainly looked that way!
Man the Pilots are brave
Quote from hboyce4 :i know its not really drift but its really amazing.

I cannot believe you just called crosswind landing 'drifting'... you deserve to be shot

Secondly, those shots in that video are actually under remarkably controlled conditions - they're standard procedure when testing out new planes, especially commercial airliners, as they have to be able to hold up under such landing conditions... as they're not that uncommon
Quote from Blas89 :Man the Pilots are brave

I bet that's the reason they don't give ejection seats to the commercial pilots...
