do i need to upgrade?
This is my current computer setup. Will this be able to handle the hi res packs and what frame rate could i xpect. I have it on my laptop right now but am switching to my desktop. Is there anything i should upgrade? Or should i just bu a whole new setup

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
2048mb system memory
400gb hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce 6150Se
The 6150 has to go. Do you have an AGP or PCI-E slot?
no..i brought that computer to work and im going to go out and get a new one...
Just get a new board with a PCi-E slot, the rest is more than fine, are you sure your current board doesn't have a video card slot ???
these are the specs of my new computer. Is this overkill? Its only going to be used for racing sims.

The Q6700 is a bit of a rip-off compared to the Q6600, and i'd get a better GFX card.
what card should i upgrade to?? Is there a big difference between the 8000 series and 9000 series?
If you go for the top end gfx card and u can afford go for the 9800 gx2.
Simply the 8600GT and 9600GT are only for casual gamers, people that arent bothered much about stable and quality graphics. The size of monitor you picked too will have a screen resolution too big for the #600gts.

My recommendation is at least an 8800GT.

Exactly. For some reasons many PCs are sold with overkill CPUs and only midrange GPUs...

The 9600GT in performance is LOADS better than the 8600GT, and only a little bit worse than the 8800GT. A lot of people like to SLi 9600's, because 2 9600's frankly outperform 2 8800GT's due to much better SLI technology than the 8 series.
