Hi, I just thought i would come here and introduce myself to the community here and ask a few questions. To start my name is chris, im 17 years old and ive been a racing fan as long as i can remember. I love cars and im actually looking to get into real racing in mini stock at our local track. Ive had lfs for a long time but ive never really got serious about it until now. I used to just drive around and have fun adn drift(or try to). But latly ive been working on getting better. Right now i just have the demo but i plan to buy s2 soon.

Like i said above i have a few questions.
1. Wondering what a good lap time on blackwood is. I know online in the demo if you run 1.16 its supposed to be really good. today i ran about 100 laps and improved from 1.27 to 1.18. Really trying to get to 1.15

2. I was wondering about setups. Ive run alot of different setups but i find the default one works almost perfectly for me. Just looking for a bit of advice.

3. Last question for now. Im using mouse steer to drive because it seems more realistic then keyboard and lets me handle the car better. What would be a good racing wheel on the cheaper side(like around 70$)?

well first off. WELCOME!!!

1st off. 1.18 is about the best i did in demo. (fbm) (i have only had s2 for a couple of months)

secondly.the setup really depends on the driver, his abilities and his driving style.

3rd. you wont find a decent steering wheel anywhere but a garage sale for under $100 (aus)

As for wheel, if new one, Logitech FF EX is probably you're best bet for such money, if used, you can get a Momo or a DFP

One more thing. with new patches is it auto update or do i have to redownload lfs or is there a patch download.

yes, FFEX is quite good if you dont want to use much money to a wheel.
there is auto update, when new patch comes when you try to join multiplayer it says new about patch and it downloads it if you want

You won't really ever enjoy lfs fully without at least a dfp or a momo.

Yeah i know. Want to get a g25 someday, only about 270$ short right now... and somethin i was wonderin. Am i just a really really big noob, or is it almost impossible to finish a race with the AI drivers, every time i try to make a pass they slam into me.

Your not a n00b, but the AI are n00bs. Race online for less stupid drivers. But watch out for speed hackers. If you do, record a replay and post it here. We'll love you for it.

I see the burning banana a lot. I know people do that when they find a person using a crack, but why is it a burning banana? Any reason?

Also, I need to ask a question as well. I use the xfg a lot on the demo, and know quite a few servers that actually encourage using the speed hack! If I post a mpr, will the server's be closed? They really annoy me.

Final question: I run about 1:36:50 at average with the xfg and want to start using manual now. I use the mouse (just so you know). At around what RPM, should I shift up? I think the automatic does it at around 7000 RPM. Not sure though.

Please answer these questions for me and thanks a lot for the help!

When the red light appears, quickly stop throttling, and shift up when you let go of the button/throttle. Do that every time the red light comes up.

I have a question again kinda like the one above. I never really got into formula racing until now and i dont know too much about the bmw im racing in. I usually hold off from upshifting until only 2 of the lights arent lit up red. Should i shift up sooner?

I shift at the same time.

^^ good to know im not the only one, i was worried i was gonna damage the car runnin on rpms to high for it.

I think that's pretty much the optimal shiftpoint for most of the time.

As for setting up your car, I'm sure you'll eventually try out some WR sets and my advice considering those is that you should stay away from ones that have really extreme values or are really stiff making it hard to drive consistently. I would recommend setups that are bit on the softside with very balanced behavior. You learn alot more about the track, car and racing in general by making it from start to finish instead of spinning out on the first corner.

Take it easy on lap 1 and let others have their destruction derby, should make it easy for you to pick those podium positions

...And especially on turn 1 (Also known as "T1 mayhem" or "T1 syndrome").

Yeah, thanks for the answers. I now know when to shift up on the FBM, but at what RPM should I shift up on the XFG? Thanks for the answers!

He told u, as soon as u see the red light, shift. I think thats around 7000 rpms.

Be aware though that some of them (especially the hotlap ones) will be set up to be purposefully very twitchy to drive, as thats the way to get the absolute fastest times. On the whole however I've found them all to be great.
