Alright so here's the deal. I have a project and I have 1 year to make it. The project can be about nearly anything I want but has to have a point. For example I can't just make a toy car just for the heck of it.

The project can either be an essay, a creation or an event.

Personally, I'd rather not make it into an event because that would mean that I need to rely and the number of people who will participate and all and I'm not sure that'll be easy.

So, an essay or a creation.

If I make an essay it has to be 3 500- 4000 words which would have to be a critical analysis of a problem that I choose. It HAS to be an analysis though and can't be just information about something that you can find all over the internet. The point of the analysis has to be precise and have a point that is usefull to the community.

The creation can be any forme of arts. Drawing, writing, music, dance, singing, sculpture, design, technology, electronics, etc. Just like the essay it has to have a point that is useful to the community and has to have a writen part that is 1 500 - 2 000 words.

Only idea's I've come up with were :

an essay about the down side of Biofuels - Point would be to inform people of the rising food prices that this creates and the problems it causes to humanitary organisations.

an essay about whether or not buying a hybrid car is a good choice.

and that's about it... Once again, I like car's and video-games so since I get the choice of the subject I'd like it better if it was bout something I'd like but any idea's on subjects? Maybe some of your idea's might give me a good idea or maybe I'll use it .

Just need a little help with idea's.

Global Warming,can't go wrong with this.Wow,your only 15 or 16....and you have 4000 words text to write...geez.Only 400 words here.Just curious,why they give you 1 year for it?

absolutely zero emission. (Honda actually has a way to use solar panels to convert whatever into hydrogen but too expensive to put it into mass production. so theoritically Hydrogen COULD be completely emission-free)
saying how great Hydrogen is compare to all the bio-fuels or other alternate fuel.
and say like because the cost is so great thats why we are still using fossil fuel. even tho the hydrogen technology is actually pretty mature and ready to be used by consumers. all we have to do is encourage corporations to start working on this technology. let them know the demand is higher than we think.
and say like even tho many automobile manufacturers are starting to produce "Green" car. but most of them do it because of the profit and to suit the market. Unlike Honda which has put a great deal of resources in Green technology such as Hydrogen Fuel cell, hybrid, solar panels, the earthdream concept in F1 to raise awareness, and even the aim of the HondaJet is to create the new generation of private jets with lower emissions. (haha sorry this might sound all about Honda because i think what they are doing for the environment is absolutely amazing. just a quick fact: Honda has NEVER produce a engine for chainsaw because they think trees look better standing up. *its true i remember read it somewhere on their websites but cant be bothered to find it again*)
then you can link the whole idea back to Global Warming saying how much damage our human civilisation is doing to the Earth.
and suggest possible solutions.

i can write like a 7000 words essay EASILY with the topic i just suggested.
4000 words isnt as hard as it looks..
once you get the ideas its pretty straight forward.

Well it's not very interusting though. You hear about it everyday in the radio, the TV and everywere. I could do something like hybrid cars which would help reduce gas emissions and all that to prevent even worst global warming.

But 1 year is too much for this.
In Latvia we have that projects too,
and i(and almost all of us) have done it in last week.
I dont remember how much words was there, but this project was 30 MSword pages long.

So, if you want to do it easy, just choose global warming problem.
And, please, start doing it early! not in last week

the good thing about Global warming is that if you include all the "standard" stuff in your essay it pretty much guarantee you AT LEAST a pass because its pretty straight forward.
BUT.. *here comes the catch*
its really hard to get a good grade on it as i bet most teachers must have read like million essays on GW and they must be sick of it.
so yours essay must be really special/interesting to catch the attention of your teacher. which i think the FCX is a great way to do so because not many people knows that such car actually exists as they sound soo futuristic. (errr i sound like a die-hard honda fanshaha)

just got an idea.
if you really want to write an article about Live For Speed or any other racing games.
this should be an alright topic for computer game. (although i really dont recommend you to do this). you can even include the response from different communities as well.

I suppose your education standards are quite a lot lower than here. I had to write such essays when I was 13 or so.

the IB diaploma programme is VERY intense and stressful.
so unless you are REALLY smart i wont recommend you doing it because it takes A LOT of time to finish the stuff it requires.
like i spent like 6 hours finishing my 37 pages maths assignment.
and the next day i have a physics report due as well.
fortunately i managed to finish it at school. =S
i have NEVER done so much work in two days.
and its just the start of the programme.
so you can imagine how intense the programme is.

Haha I knew someone would talk about that. I was actually thinking about making an essay about how the simulator's help people. Not only racing simulator's but the one they use to check for mental illnesses and stuff. But I like NSX's idea more because it reflects more of what I like. Cars. xD

you've got a year. /me votes you leave it till the last day. You could also do something about car companys that have risen from ashes to become the most popular in the world.

I have to :S I was sopose to have given a detailed plan to my supervisor last week :S

Even if it does get outdated though they have to realise that I started and got the idea when it was still something new and that was maybe going to go big... bleh.

All that says is you're writing longer essays at that age, not better essays. If you've got a broad topic it can be MUCH easier to write 5000 words than 500-1000. Just figure out all of the subtopics, and write a bunch about each of them. Slap on an intro and conclusion, proof read and you're done. You need to be a lot more concise when writing a shorter essay and I find it can take longer than writing a long essay as you often have a LOT of editing to do.

You may well be correct that your education standards are higher, but essay length alone does not show this :P It's like saying that someone with more posts on a forum is a 'better' poster. I will point no fingers, but we know this is not always true!

As for the essay of the OP, if at all possible, get it done within the next month! The essays and projects at uni I liked the most were the ones that had short deadlines. I HATED having a 4 month deadline cos I knew I was going to leave it right to the last minute, and be working on the essay as well as studying for exams. If only I had the motivation to get the essays out of the way ASAP I would have been quite a bit less stressed!

Another thing is making sure you are using reputable sources. I don't know how important that will be for your project, but make sure you check with your teacher and know what's acceptable and what isn't before you start doing too much work based on potentially poor sources.

@Michael - Yeah, I'll try not to leave it till last minute for once. :P But I have the whole summer to work on it but I just wanna secure a good subject for now so that during the summer for the little time I'll work on it at least it won't be worth NOTHING at all.

hehe yeh. Well sometimes I look on wiki but I never use that information without checking somewere else. So whenever I find an info on wiki I usually check on other websites (or search something on google) so I find another source. :P But I guess that's why my supervisor is for. He tells me whats right and what's not. He's like a super genius in chemistry btw. :P

If that was the only thing I had, I would. But I also get a lot of tests, projects and other assignements. So most of the time I'm busy. And on the weekends, to relax, I race. League races. 4 leagues + 1 Event + hw + skinning + webdesigning + this project is a lot :P. So I really just wanna secure the subject and then I'll see.
