What causes the LX6 to be such a bear to drive? I find it to be the single-most difficult car to drive in LFS S2 -- including the open wheel MRT and formula cars -- yet surprisingly I don't have any difficulty driving the, on the face of it, very similar LX4.
Its light and powerfull, much more powerfull than the 4.The low weight makes it hard I think. But its much more drivable than in S1 I think, atleast with a good set
Try Bob Smith's easy race setup. I find it very controllable with that set.

It's actually my favorite car.
Yes, I already use Bob Smith's Easy Race setups for all the cars. Even so, the LX6 has me scratching my head wondering why it's so much more difficult to drive than the other cars. In order to keep it under control, I find I have to be extremely gentle on the throttle to prevent throttle-on oversteer and generally take corners one gear higher than I would otherwise which also helps prevent oversteer. As a consequence though, my laptimes suffer.
Try driving the real thing with any pace. It's a very light and powerful car. It's tricky to get good speed out of it even at the best of times. But when you get it right. . . . . The best.

Bob is a fan of the LX's always racing them.. ive not tried Bob's easy setups but he has some good sets on his comp that even i could drive and i aint a big fan of the LX .....

On a fast course i like the lx6, because every meter is a new challenge. Even if you hit a corner right, u can not be sure the car swings over at the appex.

On a slow and bumpy track such as south city its much more difficult, because u simply have to much power in the lower gears.

Teammate gave me a hint long time ago, i found very usefull: Be sure to be done with braking before u enter a curve or corner, because the oversteering under brakin´is pretty heavy.

Heh, you LX noob.

See, the case tends to generally be that the harder a car is to drive, the more satisfying it is to get a good time out of it (with the exception of the FOX ofcourse which doesn't give any feedback at all).
Oh, come on guys, what are you talking about? Powersliding through the corners is what makes the LXs so fun to drive...

Fox gives a lot feedback, LX6 just bites and laughs

FOX gives feedback? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Go on the car park and turn the FOX into a corner, then apply different amounts of throttle. Then repeat the same in another car and feel the difference of feedback. The FOX just has the center spring for feedback while the other car's feedback changes as you vary the throttle. I think this is down to the FOX having too much grip and not enough power and as soon as you hit a curb the wrong way, by the time you feel it, its waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late to do anything about it. I hate driving it. In my oppinion, the MRT aside (as does not even count as a car in my book) it is the worst car in LFS. The other cars are just so much more involving to drive by comparison and make your muscles stretch and all the hairs on your body stand up.

I could say the same thing about the LX6. But it all comes to personal preference so I am not going to argue about it
Power/weight value makes it such a tricky car. And, as said before, understanding that bastard gives a lot of satisfaction.

And kicks you when you're already lying on the ground and bleeding

What I've learned with LX6, is that it is not you, who decide where to go - it's the LX6.

LOL

But I'm lovin' it.

ive recently had great fun sliding the LX6 around the car park... at first i couldnt control it, but now i can quite easily control the slides, however as soon as i go onto a track im hopeless at controlling it

edit: yes i agree... its the LX6 that decides where it wants to go!
Remember kids sliding might be fun, but once you start you can't stop. Sliding ain't the fastest way around a race track and if you've got your LX6 set up to have it's snake hips on then of course it's going to sink it's teeth in and shake you about a bit.

This car needs a good set to race competativly with, but even a good set requires you to be on your toes with it. That's what makes it so fun.
Hmm, wonder what the LX8 would of been like I rarely drive the uf1000 or gtr version. I'd prolly use the LX8 much more but hey ufr is fun car in banger racing
I actually like ufr better than xfr because it's more like an rwd car. I specially like the rear end trying to slip out under braking. Fun machine! Too bad xfr is so much faster...

Lx8
over turning the steering wheel (provoking understeer) is a nice easy way I found to drive it. over turn, correct to the point where the car is nicely balanced, straigten up, accelerate away.

Comment from a player that uses a non-FF wheel (AFAIK?).

LX4 is fun but LX6 pain in the ass. I think it's so hard to drive more because of the current probs with the tyre grip not because of the weight/power value. I don't even want to think how crazy LX8 would be.

Yes
Quote from thisnameistaken :I've noticed that if I'm in the middle of a long corner in the LX6, well within the limit of grip (because driving the LX6 on the limit means I spin), if I put even the slightest amount of accidental extra pressure on the throttle pedal it slides. This doesn't seem right at all.

That could well be what Scawen was talking about when he said "how throttle affects tyre grip" (or something like that). So fingers crossed.

has he said he's looking at that specific issue? Be great if so... the current linear correlation between corner grip and throttle input just seems so wrong...
I dunno... the LX-6 is a very easy car to drive, when compared to how it was in the S-1 "era". In fact, I think that the class that it usually runs in, it's the easiest to use.
Somebody posted earlier that the fox don't have feed back when using it...I think it does. I think that it's a very tame car and that any feed back it does gives out is very vague... it doesn't "feel" like what I'd imagine a real car like that would feel, but it seems real forgiving as well. It's still a good car and all, but I think that newbies would be better off in starting with that car than say the UF

But getting back to the LX....
That car is sooo cool period. I never heard of canterhams or lotus 7s
or mega busas before I played LFS. to me the LX cars look alot like
old sprint style racers from the post WWII period and a little like
model T's. They are my favorite car to skin. I would like to see the
LX 8 made sometime. I figure though with a V8 and that light of a chassis
the physics in LFS would make that car a real nightmare to try and use and would not be used much on the servers anyways.
