I've a strange problem that has just started after making changes to my power saving settings for my monitor. (Monitor kept turning off every 10mins while watching iPlayer). Using Vista 64.

Now for some reason Vista decides to turn my monitor off after x amount of time (whatever I've got it set to) while I'm playing LFS... obviously not a good result when your racing online! Obviously the easiest thing I can do is change it to never turn off, but it's getting very repetitive constantly changing it when I want to play LFS.

Am I missing a setting somewhere that's causing it to turn my monitor off even though I'm using the computer (i.e playing LFS)?

Why not just press the button on the front of it when you want it off and you aren't at the PC, then turn it on when you get back?

I have the same problem..
So I leave it set to Off all the time
Unless someone has a better idea?

That's what I'll probably end up doing, just I'm prone to getting up and disappearing off somewhere!

Just annoying that it has only started recently... even MSN knows when I start an application (goes to `Busy`) yet Vista can't work it out .

Just make a pact with yourself that if you get up even to go to the other side of the room - turn it off. So if you get up and go somewhere without expecting, you've turned it off just incase.

I had this problem too...I set it to 20 minutes delay, in case I forget to turn the monitor off when I leave it. It hasn't given me any trouble yet, most races I do are way under 20 minutes, and for the longer ones I just have to move the mouse every 20 minutes...Not too bad

With most hardware it's possible to change the settings so that a device can bring your computer out of a sleep state, maybe you should check to see if this is available for your controller/port. I can't remember how this is set but I do know its possible with XP and probably Vista too. I guess I never gave Vista enough time to find out, I think its c#@$ and that is me being nice about it.

The best advice I could really offer though is delete Vista and install XP..... or even better Ubuntu!

It had to be said, one of my computers came with Vista and Vista got filed in the big round file(Bin), Ubuntu got installed.

After some months not playing LFS, I started again one of these days, and I've got the same problem. The screen turns off while racing.

It's a temporary solution, but in stead of telling people to turn off the screen powersaving we should ask the devs for a solution, as the problem belongs to LFS not being able to "hold back" the screen poweroff.

So please, scawen, whenever you can, spend some minutes trying to fix this problem, as it is very annoying.

It's nothing todo with lfs having a problem but vista it's self, if msn knows that lfs goes in full screen mode then lfs is doing it's job right but vista can't tell when a full screen program is running or not.

It only happens to me with LFS. I play rFactor too or play videos and the screen doesn't go off...

If it was Vista's fault it should be with any game I play or program I use(that doesn't use the keyboard or mouse of course)
