Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Yes but how many Nascar tracks have hotels built over the actual track, people were watching from the comfort of their hotel room. I'm already thinking of selling off a few body parts I don't need so I can afford to go there next year.

Well, Texas doesn't have a hotel actually over the track, but turn 2 is backed by a condo...you could watch the actual race from the comfort of your living room!

Quote from JackDaMaster :Its just the track, Silverstone holds 120,000 IIRC

Because ovals are enclosed that means you can get the grandstands closer to the track. Therefore you can make them bigger and hence more spectators are held.

That makes sense to me, I've always figured that while I think I would enjoy driving a road course more, I enjoy watching ovals simply because you can watch the entire track at once. I don't think I would enjoy attending a road course simply because it seems to me that I would be watching cars braking for a corner, then accelerating down a straight completely ignorant of what was happening on the rest of the track.

I think it would be cool if they added chicanes and such down the straights on the big ovals, then we would get the best of both worlds!

Quote from ATHome :From what I've googled, NASCAR starts from 90 US $ ticket prices, but I'm not sure if this is for the whole weekend or just the race.

Until this year my inlaws held season tickets at Texas motor speedway. I want to say that they were $1000-1500 each for the year which included both NASCAR events, the indy race and the associated Nationwide series events (similar to NASCAR cars, but down on power). These tickets were nice seats, but nowhere near the best. In the grandstands on the front stretch right on turn 4 about 20 rows up.

They would pull their travel trailer and make a weekend of it...

The $90 tickets were likely on the backstretch and for a single race only.

I didn't mean to imply that NASCAR was a worldwide series (if I did?), I was just curious of how the attendance and tv ratings compare between the two series.

In regards to the F1 numbers posted above, are they counting individuals, or do the 400,000+ attendance include people who attend all 4 days of the race?
F1 question from an American fan

Please don't take this as a NASCAR v F1 thread, I am honestly asking a question.

I am a fan of all sorts of motorsports. It's only recently that I could watch F1 after getting the Speed channel, so until this point I have mostly been ignorant of F1 in general. Now I can schedule my DVR to record F1 events as well as NASCAR, Lemans and other racing...

I was watching the F1 qualifying at Abu Dhabi and was very impressed by the new race complex, however I was shocked to hear that the fan capacity was 50,000! Surely this is a mistake, I honestly expected to hear that the full capacity would be 100,000 or more as this is what the NASCAR tracks can hold. I think Bristol, a very small 1/2 mile track is essentially a stadium with a race track inside, can hold more than 150,000!

Is this attendance number correct? With such low attendance, is F1 king due to TV ratings? Since the tracks are spread across the world, does it make it harder for the average F1 fan to attend races?

Quote from th84 :Montoya said that once Flipper got by him, he pretty much let everyone else get past.... which is pretty commom. The lapped cars always fight harder with the leader than they do 2nd or 3rd placed cars. Once the leader had passed him, the rest of the field didnt really matter...

You're probably right. I thought the race was pretty good, but I always love Bristol and as I said before I'm a CE fan.

Do you mean that you don't like the COT at all, or just at Bristol? I have loved the COT so far, I was very skeptical of it at first, but after the Daytona race (or maybe it was Talladega) where the first 20 cars were within .2 I was hooked!

I loved the 3/4 wide pack of 4 rows of cars for lap after lap. That was exciting!

Quote from th84 :I dont know what it was about it, but I found it to be the most boring Bristol race that I have ever seen. It is still a one groove track, though. That is why Flipper had to bump him to make that pass.

I probably found it even more boring because my guy got caught trying to pass before the green flag and was never able to make up that lap.

I don't think that CE's inability to pass KB was due to the track being a one groove track, but more to do with the differing ways the cars were setup. If you'll remember, CE led the race early and struggled mightily to get around the lapped car of Montoya, but after CE finally made it around most of the rest of the guys on the lead lap were able to get around without too much difficulty.

I'm not a racing expert, but it seemed to me that CE could turn tighter than KB, but KB had more exit speed through the corner. Carl could dive in and pull up even with Kyle, but he couldn't complete the pass as he was having to feather the throttle coming out of the corner.

Did you ever hear an explanation from Jr as to why he pulled such a boneheaded move? It seemed to me that he had a pretty fast car, it's a shame he lost the race before the first corner.

Quote from th84 :Yes, It was much better as asphalt. But I dont think it was just the surface of the track that caused that horrible race.

Or, Am I the only one that thought that Saturdays race was the worse Bristol race...EVA! (other than Flipper bumping Dumbo for the win, gotta love it when someone takes that prick out!)

I thought the racing was very good. I remember that the track used to be almost a 'one groove' track and the new progressive banking seemed to open up more lanes. Of course I may be biased because I'm an Edwards fan and enjoyed watching him win!

Carl bumped Kyle to pass for the win, but after Carl passed him, Kyle returned the favor on the next corner, but Carl was able to drive through the bump. After that the #99 just ran away from him and the #18 wasn't able to get close enough to try another bump. I honestly think that the bump pass pissed Kyle off enough that it ruined his concentration and kept him from reeling Carl back in.

1) AI
2)Improved Damage modeling
3)Improved statistics for offline racing

I would like to see a more realistic simulation of physical/mechanical damage modeling in the game. Transmission, clutch, engine damage as well as aerodynamic effects from body damage.

I would also like to see improved AI. I know that most on this board hold the opinion that AI is unimportant as this is primarily an online simulation but in my case I race only offline due to my connectivity at home. I have satellite internet which makes online racing virtually impossible

My third wish would be to have an improved system for keeping records of my offline races. I think it would be nice to have stats similar to lfsworld but for offline races. Even a simple system to keep track of my fastest laps/split times would be nice. As it stands I have to write down my fastest times to keep track of my personal records. I have tried starting an online race for me only and adding AI, but that takes a lot more time than simply starting an offline race.

Another addition I can think of would be to make a better system for adding AI drivers to a race. As it stands now every time you add an AI driver they are added to the race in the car that you have selected, in order to create a race with mixed cars/classes you ahve to continually change your car for each desired AI driver. It would be nice if you could streamline that process.

I recognize that to many these additions are superfluous but there are drivers out there that would welcome a better offline component.
