My advice is: list all the public servers, including the empty ones and join one that you feel would be fun to try and people will start joining that server too. Might take some time but sometimes just about 5-10 minutes will do.
If you can't find a combo you'd like to try then find a server that has voting enabled with the car (exclusively if possible) of your choice and change the track, laps etc to your liking.
I've used that method in the past and it has always worked
As for myself, I've always loved how the Internet brings people with common interests together, making the community bigger and more varied. Can't be that bad of a thing.
But on the other hand, we also had many good things happening after that too, like the S2 release or the BMW / Sauber release and seeing all online records being broken.
And about records - they are bound to be broken again, so on that aspect there are more memorable times to come
I've been using 1.0 wheel turn compensation (full non-linear steering) setting happily in LFS with my Logitech Momo racing wheel ever since I started playing the game a bit over a month ago. Today however, I noticed for the first time that I need to lower it to be able to opposite lock more efficiently in AS3R with FOX when using a setup that oversteers only in slow speeds (under 100km/h) and understeers otherwise. I tried different settings and felt 0.5 was better than 0.0 and 1.0 after a quick test. 0.0 would be the most responsive, though a bit tricky if you don't have a 900° steering wheel turn travel.
The LFS manual recommends a value of 0.4 - 0.6, but I was wondering what values experienced/league drivers use. So if you belong to either category, I'd appreciate it if you'd answer the poll.
What conversions do you do for the raw video output of the game? I mean it looks like you're doing something similar to "800x600@30fps (noninterlaced) -> 740x576@30fps (interlaced) -> 720x576@30fps (noninterlaced)", which could cause the aliasing effect that appears in all the STCC videos. In the round 3 video it's just more apparent than in the rest.
In an older version of Adobe Premiere there was an option that was defaulted to making a nasty deinterlacing effect on all video material that was timescaled (slowed down or sped up) in a project. I had that problem in a video I once did ( http://users.utu.fi/vaniem/video/aliasing%20problem.avi ). So maybe it could be something similar in your case.
Aside from the technical standpoint the videos are really top notch and fun and exciting to watch. I've never seen anything like this before based on a racing game. STCC looks quite promising as a broadcast league. Can't wait for round 4
I have raced a couple of times in different games before, so I guess that might explain it. Namely the grand prix games, viper racing and nascar racing 4. In nascar I actually played in a league for a few races back in 2001, which did give me a lot of experience. I haven't played almost any racing games since, only a bit of gp4 each summer in a lan with a friend but I wasn't particularly good at it since I never took the time to actually practice it that much.
The games I've played have almost exclusively been fps games and they've been tons of fun playing competitively in a team. I haven't really done that for the past 2 years either however because it consumes so much time. I think it would be a nice change to see what the online racing community is like and get involved in a league where you can race other people and have some good and fun competition going on.
Thanks for the tip. I'm still experimenting with different ways to enter the corners, so it's good to hear these.
Yeah, those were my thoughts too exactly when I was bumping the car infront in the back-straight. From previous experience though, I did not lift the gas because I was afraid that he might get away so I would only be left with less speed. That's why I didn't lift it too much. Next time I will try a different approach however.
Hello people! Been playing the LFS S2 demo for almost a week now (since last sunday) and I just wanted to comment on what an awesome game this is. I've had plenty of fun playing it online against others mostly on servers with BL gp track with an XFG. It's nice that there are these low-powered cars that aren't awfully difficult to drive, even at first, so the learning curve to have some serious fun is lower as well.
Had a blast tonight playing quite late and the last 5-lap race was simply the best one I've experienced so far. Made a couple of cool and controlled passes after making one small mistake at the end of the first lap, which in the end cost me the race, but the cool racing that took place after that more than compensated for it
