Well, and for those 15 minutes you would like to play simple C&R, TC has set up the USA server (as pointed out before). No InSim, no cash, just chases and if you get caught, spectate.
Yeah, I would advise you to take a "reading" class. I was merely pointing out the total absurdity of people telling each other what they should do with products they bought theirselves. What's next? People telling other people whom to like and who not?
What a perfectly politically correct world you must live in. I do feel sorry for you.
While I was sceptical about the whole InSim/money/cop license thing at first, I now see popular servers like the TC ones aren't manageable without all those things. Either you get 18 cops out of 24 drivers, or people are ramming all the time without punishment, or driving 200mph without a punishment, etc. I challenge you to setup an InSim-free C&R server for, let's say, 24 players, and see how long you will put up with the abuse
To be honest, I never had any problems with the FM server. I was "into" oval racing some time ago, and found the races quite entertaining most of the time.
Problems, however, arise when you see some of the FM members on "regular" racing servers. I can recall quite a few incidents with someone from FM, ranging from hitting me without saying sorry to a plain old ram into the barriers. That's why I stopped using the FM servers. But hey, if you like oval racing, FM servers were always good fun.
Get that idea out of your head. I have "cruise" times and "race" times. Whenever I'm in a race mood, I don't cruise. Whenever I'm not in a race mood, I'm cruising. Before the cruise servers, I would fire up another game. Cruise servers are NOT stealing racers, they are providing a service many people like in LFS.
It's so funny how people can get upset about cruise servers. If race servers are empty, as you say, and cruise servers are "packed", the democracy has decided. If you don't like it, too bad.
But, I have never seen such a situation tbh. I see 5-6 packed cruise servers, but at least 20 or 30 packed racing servers (Redline and such). So no need to worry.
And the server just keeps on crashing and crashing. Does anyone have the emailaddress of Scawen? Apparently some folks know about the exploit to crash ANY SERVER YOU WANT. It only gets more and more to the point where a server is started and crashed within 5 minutes.
Allright, so now we know a certain command can crash the server. Scawen, would it be possible for you to release a X1 version server, compatible, with only this bug fixed? If the word on how to crash a server gets out, I fear we won't be able to play LFS anymore.
The most recent DrWatson is attached. If you need more info, contact me at arfman (monkey's tail) gmx de
Thanks.
I think I give up. My posts weren't about the darn reset option, I think it's fine
as it is now. It adds to the realism, on cruise servers and race servers. I think I'll accept the fact that "we cruisers" are being considerend as lesser beings than the allmighty racers out there.
Let's drop this subject and get back to things we like to do: play LFS in one way or another.
Why are you on such a crusade against everyone that isn't using LFS as a racing simulator? Are we bothering you? Do you feel you have any negative sideeffects of more people buying LFS?
No one is demanding patches. The contacts between TC and the devs has always been friendly and in a mannered way.
Where did you see me stating that "every wish I have has to be fulfilled"? I'm only saying certain options would be nice for cruise servers AND hardcore racesim servers, like barrier physics detection for instance. And maybe you should redefine "democracy". I'll bet that if iD gets enough requests for a RPG-like Doom 3 game, they'll make it. In the end, it's all about money.
I'm betting that if cruise servers are getting even more popular than they are now, some things on the devlist will be put higher on the list (barrier physics, money system, you name it). Really, this is the real world and in the end, everything is about money. LFS is made by independent devs and at the end of the month, they have a mortgage and bills to pay. And if a "cruisesim" does that ...
I'm not saying LFS should turn into a cruisesim, IMHO cruising and hardcore racing (and even drifting for that matter) can coexist very nicely within the community.
Things like ingame object editing, allowing more track objects to be placed in (possibly as soon as the) a next patch, those are things that came from cruiseservers, like it or not.
Why make it? LFS is already a darn good cruising game. If they add bigger tracks/environments and a rudimentary money system maybe, it will surely catch on.
Anyway, I don't see a problem with people using LFS as a cruisegame. I think Scawen can prioritize the things he wants to do very good, I don't think he needs someone like you telling him what LFS should be and should not be
Actually, it is. As I pointed out, probably around 15-20% of all people racing online do so on cruise servers. That's 15-20% of paying customers, which is a lot. Now, you don't hear me say that LFS should be cruise only, or race only. My point is that everyone should be able to play the game as he/she likes it, and it's only normal that the devs will implement some "cruise" features sooner or later, because cruisers make up for about 20% of all customers.
And I'm saying this because the devs are already listening to cruisers and implementing things here and there for them. So you can try to ignore the cruising part of the LFS community, or (like the devs) understand that they are also paying customers.
Imagine, Test Drive Unlimited with good physics. That would be awesome, and I think the TLC/TC/CC servers are coming more and more in the right direction for that.
It's funny how many people have no idea how popular cruise servers are. I run the [TC] CitryDriving servers. Jamaica has 32 slots, and is almost allways filled with 20+ people. USA has 16 slots and has around 10 people playing on it, but it has to be said that's an old layout which will be replaced very soon.
So that's 30 people driving on TC servers all of the time. ATM, there are 362 racers online. So about 10% of people online at any given time are cruising, not accounting TLC/Caribbean Cruise/CityDriving clones drivers.
So I guess yeah, cruising is a big part of the LFS community, like it or not. Keeping that in mind, there's nothing wrong with Scawen making little modifications for cruise servers. FYI: canreset is set to NO on the TC servers, I think it adds realism, but that's not my point. My point is that cruising is more popular than most people think.
And wouldn't racers be happy with a better barrier detection/physics change? It would help a LOT for cruising, and also a big part for the "normal" racers.
Strange, one would think that a server crash after a new patch would attract more attention
Anyway, it has crashed 2 times since then, with exact the same error. However, it's running fine as we speak (been up about 12 hours now). So it's not solved, I'm expecting it to crash again sooner or later.
I'm running the [TC] CityDriving servers, currently "USA" and "Jamaica". Since patch X came out, Jamaica has crashed twice with a DrWatson in the Event Log.
USA is running fine. However, Jamaica allows more cars. Maybe there is something wrong with my config?
