Quote from MadCatX :If I recall correctly there is a server-side option to choose how many packets for each car are sent to sync position. The higher value is set, the smoother the game is. Maybe the server you've been playing on had this packet amount lowered to save some bandwidth...

You know, this may make a lot of sense. Sometimes I race on a server dedicated just to games and I have no issues, probably because the use high settings. I see this issue on other games too, so it isn't confined to LFS.

Last week-end I had the same problem on that server, tho. It booted me out several times, once in the middle of a race.

I'm near Chicago, and perhaps it could be the routing thru Canada, but I have a feeling is the Fragmasters servers. I don't have that problem with other servers.

You know guys, I tried all the above and couldn't get it to work. Perhaps is because I got a Momo wheel. My only solution was a script.

Quote from Karbine :Hi, I use a DFP, was wondering if there was a way to use my shifter knob AND the paddles without having to change the settings every time. Is this possible by doing something in the config or what?

Some people claim this isn't an issue but I don't think you can use the paddles and the shifter at the same time. You can write a script to run when pressing a key to change from paddles to shifter. You need one script for the paddles and another one for the shifter. You would need to run the script just before you leave the pits for it to take effect.

I had a similar question but no one offered a good answer. Follow this link:

Hope this helps

Jason,

I did all you suggested with no results. The Momo came with a Logitec Profiler program that can launch any game that uses controllers. You can set the buttons, paddles, axis and shifter and the data is saved to the Windows registry. But I deleted the profile for LFS with no results. So it appears the profiler wasn't the cause.

I'm still at a loss. Thanks for your help.

I also race NASCAR 2003 Season and the 2005 Simracing and those sims save your sets in the same track that you created them. For example, if you create a set for Daytona using a CUP car, it saves it to the file name you want and it appends ".cup" to the car file. It is also saved in the track folder where you created it.

The file name would look like: "/Daytona/myfile.cup.car". If you create a set for a truck then the file name would be : "/Daytona/myfile.cts.car". In that sense only the cars that can read the "cup" or "cts" sets will see them when you are on that track.

Maybe the devs could look into that.

Thanks Jason.

This is by far the best answer I've got yet. I will be looking into that tonight when I get home from work.

My specific issue is the gearshift mode where I have mine set at sequential but I use the paddles for shifting. My daughter uses sequential but with the wheel shifter. My son likes the automatic trans. All three of us get whatever was set last.

I haven't checked the other buttons to see if they are changed but I will tonight. Also, I have a Momo wheel and, like you said, it's possible that the profiler changed the settings. I'll look into that also.

Thanks for your advise.

Quote from Mp3 Astra :I'd guess that you want to make a new "cfg.txt" for every player. It contains controller options, as well as a whole bunch of other stuff useful for customisation of the program. Although, I'm not sure how much there is of wheel settings, there's certainly all the other options you would want there.

I'll have yet to try the solution above. Meanwhile, I wrote a script for each driver and it works, but we need to run it every time we start the game.

Quote from JasonJ :I don't know if this will help, but I've never noticed a different controller config saved for each different player created in the Driver menu. Here's my explaination:

Controller: In LFS/data/misc/ folder there are controllerName.con files. These store your controller setup config as a whole. In the past, if I've needed to swap my controller setup. The only way I could do it was have a collection of these files in stored as different layouts stored somewhere else. When I wanted to swap controller config settings I copied the appropriate file into the ../misc/ folder and restarted LFS. It was the only way I could figure out how to make different controller configs, and by far, a much better solution than making multilpe copies of LFS.

Graphics: Also all graphics settings/configs are stored in ../LFS/setup.cfg There is only one file for the graphics setup options, like FOV and detail levels. I'm pretty sure there has never been a separate graphics config stored for each player you use. It can't because there is only on config file.

The only things I've noticed LFS store for each different player is stuff in the Driver menu like brake assist y/n, gear auto/manual, driver position, speed display mph/kmh AND also it remembered the last skin I chose with that player for each car.

The Driver menu used to be called Players. I just loaded up a Version of 0.5U. it's the same thing in that version as well. If you change controller configurations, it applies to to each and every driver. About the only thing it will remember for each Driver/Player is the autogearbox selection, driver position, autoblip and brake assist options. You're not confusing it with that are you?

I also noticed that each different controller you plug in, the config is saved in a different file. So I think, if one person uses a G25 then this file is different to the USB game pad config. So plugging in a different controller will load up a different config. But this isn't probably not what you're talking about. Unless all your buddies have diferent controllers they plug into the PC.

This is exactly what I'm referring to, just what you mentioned:

Quote :The only things I've noticed LFS store for each different player is stuff in the Driver menu like brake assist y/n, gear auto/manual, driver position, speed display mph/kmh AND also it remembered the last skin I chose with that player for each car.

It used to remember these individual settings for each driver, in particular auto or manual trans.

Sorry again guys. I have three driver profiles with their own helmet, suit, etc and that works fine. It saves all data pertinent to each driver including the names, graphic settings and sound choices, but it does not save the control settings. As I said before, this was working fine prior to the upgrade.

Now, judging by the answers posted here, it is evident that some of you don't know how LFS works. So,

Lesson 1

When you enter the game you can choose who will be driving. The computer doesn't do a psychic evaluation to see who is behind the keyboard. Just click the options menu then click on "Driver". There you have the ability to add a new driver with his own settings or pick a previous one.

Lesson 2

Installing three different copies of LFS is not the answer.

Now guys, this is the Technical forum. Any tecchies out there willing to take a crap shoot at this?

Thanks for your efforts.

LFS doesn't retain settings

Folks,

I've searched this forum and found nothing about this issue:

Three people use this game on my puter. Each has its own controls set but when changing drivers, LFS remembers only the last settings used. It never did that, what do I need to do to make it retain the settings for each?

Thanks

Sorry about that Peter. The question was if there were any members over 30, and what did you get? A bunch of teens replying. Yep, there are a number of us over 30 who answered but no matter what we do we can't get away from them teenies. Makes me feel more "fatherly".

In the latest patch, it seems that the AIs have their unique set ups, even tho I select to give them the driver's set. I can drive side-by-side and shift at the same point, yet they leave me like I'm standing still.

I review the replays to see their speeds and while they slow down in the turns, they usually drive 3 to 5 mph faster than me on the straights. Now, if they use the same set as the driver, their cars should have the same speed as mine at top rpm.

Many folks don't have any use for the AIs, but I think they are helpful for practice when there isn't anyone online to practice with. It'd be nice if we had more realistic AIs to help us sharpen our skills.

Hi guys,

Looking a these reports it confirms what I suspected for a long time: In LFS, the car speed can be directly affected by the CPU processing speed, but to my surprise, in the inverse. It looks like the faster your CPU the slower you are.

I ran this same test for 1M and ended up with a whooping 1m:14sec. Yet I have better WRs in LFS World than many of you with your 15 second computers, except for my teammate Stu who's got quite an impressive record.

Now I don't feel so bad

Mine doesn't cut the ignition off, it simply stops reacting to shifting commands. I use a shifting paddle and if I click it several times it will shift. I really thought it was hardware related, but reading the suggested post I see that it isn't.

But mine does that on any track and server but only with the F08.

I thought I was the only one having shifting problems in the F08. I use manual shifting with a shifting paddle on the wheel because I have no clutch pedal. So I have to click the paddle several times to force it to shift.

Quote from birder :Hi

One or 2 things i cannot understand from your post

1) "I have raced on CD4 twice" - the server is set to practise so you cant race

2) "didn't credit me the last 2 points until days after" - As soon as you get a RCM warning the score goes up by 1. The website is updated once a day in the early morning.

I am on 185 points and its added my points every time.

3) As far as i can tell you have beaten you the target time and your PB 49 times and are on 49 points.

As lotes says if you have the time, date and a replay it would help but without them i cannot see anything wrong

Regards

Hey, thanks for the reply!!

Maybe I can explain better following your post:

1) My bad. I practiced, I didn't race. Anyway I was online on two different occasions if I remember correctly.

2) Your answer is correct: my score on the screen was updated faithfully. No complaints there. It's the web update that threw me off. The first time I was on your server, I accumulated 21 points but only 19 were reported on the web. The online RCM screen report was correct, though.

3) Here is where we differ. I showed 51 points on the RCM when online, but somehow you get a report of 49. I'm not saying that you are wrong, because you can only report what you see.

Right now I am at work, but as soon as I get home I'll see if I can get the replay, ok? But I don't want to raise a problem for two points. I just wondered if I was the only one having this trouble.

Again, thanks for the reply and for the great work you are doing here. It's well appreciated.

I have raced on CD4 twice to test out the system and in each instance the server didn't credit me the last 2 points until days after. Right now, it's 4 Feb 08 and I last raced on Saturday 2. The server shows 49 points when in reality I have 51 accumulated points.

How come the server can show a portion of the score but miss the last 2 points?

The word is "analog". Sorry for the correction.

Not all real cars have digital speedometers. Only the high end cars, the lower end cars have analog gauges.

However, I wear reading glasses and I have a high res monitor which makes the numbers on the gauges small and hard to read. So, I think that the option we had with the original game was good enough. Whether real or not, you had the option of digital or analog, take your pick. If anyone is a purist, then use the analog, who cares, right?

But let's not forget that this is in the X31 patch only (unless I'm mistaken). The original hasn't been touched.

Great work Scawen.

If you folks allow me, I think I need to indicate the three changes that I don't quite agree with for the following reasons.

1. Engines are no longer repaired in pit stops

I don't quite agree with that because pit stops are used for repairs in real life racing. In racing, engine repairs are a priority. You can't win races with a faulty engine. Also, by deleting that, it will eliminate some drivers from racing, think about it, those who are learning to handle their cars. Quite unfair, if you ask me.

2. Dashboard fuel displays now shown as % instead of litres

Well, a % of fuel doesn't quite tell you when you may need to refuel. While it does translate to the % used per lap at a constant speed, it doesn't reflect the usage if you slow down to conserve fuel. This is something you see after you make your pit stop.

3. Removed digital speedo option - now depends on type of car

Now, folks, I have a high resolution screen and I also wear glasses. I can't see the accuracy in an analog speedometer and my only solution is the digital. Some speedometers are so small in LFS that they are rendered useless. This feature should be put back in if nothing else, to make the game "user friendly".

Everything else is great stuff. thanks for the hard work!!!

Thanks for listening folks.
