Thanks for your reply.
They were already set to separate.
I have got it working now but, very strange,I had to assign the brake to the throttle axe and the throttle to the brake axe AND I had to invert both. FWIW, I have a Thrustmaster GT430 wireless cockpit which is basically a Thrustmaster F430, but without FFB and wireless.

Btw, another question: Are there settings for steering sensitivity ? I could not find them.
Being a noob again, I have a few questions about the setup of LFS.

Again I had a very long period of inactivity in racing games/simulations in general and with regards to LFS but recently I started again with a few games and today I reinstalled LFS too.

Of course I will have to practice a lot again and for the moment I will only play offline/single player. I have a few questions however. I still didn't have the time to reread the manual and a quick search didn't give me the answers. I hope that someone can help me with it:

1) When I start a race or a lesson the engine of the car, which is of course standing still, is at the maximum rpm. When I hit the brake pedal it goes to zero, but as soon as I release the brake pedal it is at maximum again. I assume I did something wrong in the setup of LFS and probably with regards to the Controls, but I cannot find what. What could be wrong ?
2) Is it right that when I use automatic gears, I still have to use the shift paddle first to get the car driving ?

Thanks in advance for any help and sorry if these questions are a bit stupid.

Quote from Forbin :1. Turn off autoshifting! :slap:
2. Assign shift up to the right paddle on your wheel.
3. Assign shift down to the left paddle on your wheel.
4. Use the right paddle to shift up.
5. Use the right paddle to shift down.
6. If you want to go into reverse, just keep downshifting.

If you're any good, you won't ever need to use reverse.

At second thought I think I will do that, so that I will learn shifting again asap.
But I assume that under 5) you meant "Use left paddle to shift down" ?

Btw, another question about shifting: Do any of you use the Shifter of the wheel (I mean the stick) instead of the paddles ? I tried to assign it but somehow it doesn't work well. When I push the stick forward I get the Exit menu of LFS.
When in automatic gear, how to reverse ?

After a few years of inactivity, I installed LFS again. Unfortunately I have forgotten many things meanwhile and have to read the manual again from the very first beginning. Also, to get used again I decided to use automatic gear at first. Of course I will change to manual shifting after a while.
One thing that is not clear to me still is how I can reverse when I use automatic gears. Do I have to use the keyboard for that ?
I have a Logitech Momo Racing wheel btw.
Thanks in advance.

Quote from Dru :Also i take it you have engine cut off??

As a noob, practicing with the UF1000, I noticed this thread and read it, because I am interested in tips on how to drive this car.
Because english is not my native language I don't understand this term.
What is meant by "...have engine cut off.."

Must have overlooked it in my eagerness to join.
Question about races on CTRA 1b

Today I joined 2 races on CTRA 1b, but at the end I got a time penalty and was disqualified. I understood from others that this was because I did not make an obligatory pit stop.
Is it, at this moment, in all races obliged to make a pit stop ?
If not, how do I know ?

Scroll down to 1. I'm moving on.
If so, then the album is "Hey Dreamer" by John Spillane

Great news !!!
As a noob (also with online gaming) I soon "discovered" the STCC server as a great way to learn racing and was very disappointed that it was already gone after a few days.

LFS is so good that I haven't touched GTL, GTR2, CRC2005, RBR and CMR04anymore since I got my S2 license.
Being an absolute noob with racesims (and games in general), I became so enthusiastic after the first acquaintance, that I bought all the mentioned games. LFS was the last, but also the only one I am playing now.

Thanks for your reply. However it turned out to be my fault.
I didn't notice that when the window isn't maximized, it disappears as soon as my cursor is outside the window.
Should LFS Desktop behave this way ?

Whenever I open a window in LFS Desktop it disappears after a few seconds, returns again after a few seconds, disappears again and so on.
Is this normal (refreshing ?) or am I doing something wrong ?
