Will it? Crashes will keep happening, no matter how much the entry fee will be. Now what do you think will happen if some guy gets thrown off track in a racing incident? He's gonna be pissed because he just lost 5$ worth of racing. I hope they'll have some full-time admins on every server, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. If there's something I've learned until now, it's that money does not civilise people, on the contrary.
I think serverwise what the guys at UKCT have doen with the CTRA servers and the X-System is just great. Set up a scoring and reporting system. The scores permit to access new cars and voilà you've got a self-controlling environment with a motivation for the drivers and some good racing!
Contentwise for the game I think it's too bad the devs haven't tried to implement possibities for the community to create content, like has been done by Bohemia with Operation Flashpoint. Users have developed some whole new vehicles, weapons, characters, maps,... The only problem for the devs is they wouldn't have complete control over what's being released and developed.
They could let the community develop some new content and THEY could choose the really nice features and "officialize" them in an update release.
I do hope they're thinking about what's going on and trying to find solutions, because this game is too awesome to just let die.
The reason the note of this particular engine is so high is because of the even firing order of the cilinders in the engine. Today all manufacturers use the so-called big-bang firing order, where the cilinders are fired two at a time. The advantage of this is a more manageable torque output, but less peak power. Yamaha has been working on a screamer engine too, but have officially dropped the project. Kawi is the only manufacturer working on a screamer at the moment and they plan to use it in race before the end of the season.
BTW: The video is of Anthony West testing in Jerez.
I seriously hope you grow up in the meantime. The public road is not a track for you to test your souped-up Beemer on. Insurance is there to protect other people (and you) from your (probable) mistakes. If they find out about your super scam, that protection will be dropped and it's your ass that'll get on the dino!
Inventor is pretty cool. We use it at Uni and it's quite impressive. The only problem is exporting the Inventor files to meshing and analyzing tools, which can be a bit of a drag. But don't fear it, it's very intuitive and easy to use. The GUI is clean and well designed. We had to design a monocilinder engine (plus animate it) and a heat exchanger (using Floworks for the fluid simulation). Unfortunately all my inventor experience is down the shitter, because CATIA V5 has become the benchmark and Inventor isn't used quite that often.
What a ripoff! They just took the official intro to the actual aired MotoGP races. Okay it's the same franchise and they own the intro but they could've been a little creative for the game.
Try also to look around your family, friends, etc. if anybody is trying to sell their car. I got a nice deal on a Pug 306 (Diesel) from a coworker of my dad's. The thing is a dream, been driving it for the last four years. I had it insured in my name (which was expensive but not UK expensive) but the insurance has dropped about 30 percent since then.
I have a friend driving a 1.5 Citroen Saxo Diesel which is dirt cheap to maintain. But hey everything depends on your budget eventually.
Hmmmm, it sure as hell looks like a DTM car. Ralf Schumacher has been mentioned as joining the DTM series and he's got ties with Toyota (who own Lexus). Could it be?
I agree with the posts above, it's not the downforce killing your time. Besides it's not on the fast parts of a track you can lose time, it's on the slow bits (i.e. bends) that you can easely lose a couple of tenths. The most critical parts of AS National are the 2 successive hairpins and the last chicane.
Arma 2 or Operation Flashpoint 2 (will wait for the demos before deciding). The problem is that with the next game I'll buy, I'll have to rebuild myself a whole new PC. Need a new graphic card and then my power supply will need to be changed too, which means I might as well buy a new processor and the list goes on...
Isn't that the collection of one of the Google guys? It must be an American anyways, with the muscle cars he has and the fact he overlooked a couple of very decent European car-makers.
I read on another forum on how he sometimes lets people visit the garages, but they have to sign a contarct sayign they won't touch any of them. The guys seems allright though. he organises rally's where you can drive the cars. He has a couple of hangars full of cars across the US. I hope he got a couple of racetracks too though...
Great book! The attrition rate among pilots of the RAF (even at the end of the war) was just enormous. Clostermann was a great pilot and his description of his sorties with the RAF is great. If you liked that book I recommend 'Reach for the Sky: The Story of Douglas Bader DSO, DFC'
I'm reading 'Nemesis: The Battle for Japan 1944-45' by Max Hastings.
I totally agree with your post. I was on Race1 regularly before patch Y was released and racing was fun, fair and balanced (with rarely a full grid). Since Y patch the number of drivers has increased massively and the attitude of some people is just awful. As somebody else said, trying to report every abuse is just impossible. CTRA are great servers and I'm sure the mods will find a solution.
I don't think the implementation of something like that would be as easy as you guys might think. Something will have to watch that nobody is overtaking during warm-up lap for example. That seems very tough to implement.
I did 250 km/h -ish in a 911 Porsche Carrera Cup on the Spa-Francorchamps track, in the rain (not me driving). The Eau Rouge/Raidillon corner is awesome!
Over here in Belgium they used to be quite loose with the speedlimits, but the last couple of years the authorities started to become pretty tough on speeding. Installed speed cameras all over the place (well, flamish part of the country mainly). I don't mind speeding when conditions are appropriate = empty 3-lane highway in the middle of the night. I've started biking recently and riding in the city ( respecting speed limits) is waaay more dangerous than driving a couple of kms/h too fast on the highway. People should start paying attention in their car. The stuff you see people doing in their cars during the morning rush-hour
