woohoo! I got my g25, lots of wires and they get messy... the wheel itself is awesome, so much harder though with the wheel versus the gamepad, then again I stunk with the gamepad... This wheel is going to take a while to get used to, otherwise it is awesome! Clutch + 6 speed Shifter = sooo awesome!

Quote from srdsprinter :Its a tricky transition going from 270 degrees (momo black) to 900, but in terms of feel and realism its totally worth it IMO.

Going from gamepad to G25 will be a world of differnce. Enjoy it!

I hope so! My largest gripe with the gamepad is repeatability is extremely hard to do precisely.

Not to mention no feel for the road, cant wait to play it with FFB.

I don't know if its worth it, but I paid $240 + shipping for my G25 yesterday and it should be here by monday!

Can't wait to stop using my xbox 360 controller for LFS and play with a real wheel!

I hope its worth it :-D

Its $219.99 on tigerdirect and $240 on amazon.com with free shipping.

Do an East @ LimeRock and a West @ Laguna Seca!! That would be kick ass!

Limerock is going to be rennovated these next few years, repaved and new safety features added.

Plus its close to NYC and Boston. 2 hours from NYC, 3 hours from Boston, 5 hours from Montreal!

Watkins Glen is over 4 hours from NYC :-/

Quote from Rokit :i bought ps3 andi tried it worked with a wheel lol but i had to download alot of things that convert windows to linux lol

While you may get a few idiots to believe you, rest assured the majority of us aren't stupid enough to believe that.

Quote from dadge :it's better to go too slow round a corner (and learn to build up to the propper apex speed) than it is to go too fast and crash off. drive slow on purpose at first and build up to a proper pace. after about 30 mins to 1 hour later you will be maybe 1 second a lap slower (maybe less) than the leaders and that's when the real fun starts.

HAH yah right! Maybe if you have tens of thousands of miles already in LFS after 1 hour of practice you will get within 1 second... But it takes quite a bit more than that for a new person ;-)

Quote from [RF]-art555 :Because I'm going to buy PS3 and my PC is old.

Anyway thanks to those people who really helped/

Helped with what? The answer is no and nothing will change that.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Won't work on the PS3, becuase WINE doesn't exist for PowerPC architectures, like the PS3 is, so WINE wouldn't compile. Sort of pisses me off though how people said things in this thread, but didn't take the time to think about telling why it wouldn't work.

Stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

Quote from Jakg :...?

theirishnoob, do you actually know what you just said?

It wont work, don't even try, the PSP doesn't have DirectX for a start!

The lack of directx is not so much of a problem to be honest.

The real problem is the slow slow speed, too slow to run a simulation.

It will work on the PS3 as well as it does on the PSP!

Heck I bet it runs just as good on an SNES.

FYI it doesn't work.

Call up your school and ask what your schedule is! It should already be done for you by now.

Most likely that software is either Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks CAD. One of the software sets you should get yourself very used to working with.(UGS is a good one too but $$)

Sucks that you have to buy it now, a laptop/computer usually lasts for about 3 years(with enough power) so you will end up with a painfully slow or broken and abused tablet by your 4th senior year

Also enjoy your freshman year while it lasts, everything gets painfully hard in engineering majors after it.

IMHO you wont need it your first year you will suffice with your desktop, I would hold off until your 2nd year to purchase it. But then again it really depends on how your course load is for your first year. Are you taking a lot of CAD classes in the first year? If not, then you really won't need it for the first year and you can hold off for a better tablet for your 2nd year ;-)

And again as a Mech E, I never find myself using the tablet functionality too much, CAD applications work 1000x better with a mouse then a pen.

250 euros is way too much to pay for one... you should be able to get it for less then 200 imo.

Well, its only unreasonable if your majoring in liberal arts :-P It really depends on what program you are going into.

With those kinds of specs, it seems to me like an arts/design major which make those requirements fairly reasonable.

Ill start out, im a college student majoring in mechanical engineering starting my third year now.

A few things, a Tablet will be inadequate if you plan on doing engineering... my tablet is 2ghz with 1gb ram and a geforce 6200 with 256mb ram and I find it inadequate for doing real CAD/CAM work.

Secondly, LFS is going to stink, then again my tablet is well over a year old so the newer ones are a bit faster especially with a core 2 duo. But its not going to be as good as a cheaper laptop that has a bigger screen.

Third, I find myself rarely using the tablet features and just using plain old paper and pen in classes.

Fourth, its damned expensive, when I got my tablet it cost me $1700, for $1700 I could have bought a hell of a lot faster laptop.

Fifth, no you won't lose any functionality, XP Tablet PC edition provides everything you need.

Quote from RiGun :That was an awesome reading, now I want to know more about this subjet.

Get "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics"

It's a great book. A little tough to read, but it's good.

Quote from StewartFisher :That depends whether you're talking about absolute pressure or gauge pressure
Atmospheric pressure is 1 bar absolute, 0 bar gauge. Your tyre pressures will almost certainly be gauge pressures, which is the pressure above atmospheric.

Speaking of strange units, I work in the automotive emissions sector and we measure catalyst metal loading in g/ft^3 !

That would make sense for the tire pressures to be in gauge pressure, since they would be way too low otherwise.

Quote from Jakg :Erm, A Quadro is for OpenGL rendering - a workstation card, why on Earth do you have one? iirc they cost the Earth!

EDIT - It's in a £700 laptop no less O_o. Some of the Quadro's could be flashed to being a GeForce and vice versa but since the 7xxx series nVidia tightened all this up and i doubt you could.

Not really, you can get a mobile quadro on a $1700 Dell laptop... or on an $800 dell desktop... It really depends which version of the quadro you get ;-)

Anyone who is an engineer IRL (such as me) would have a laptop/desktop with a quadro/FireGL video card ;-)

The quadros support DirectX so it should work just fine, just a CH slower then a consumer grade card, but just fine.

That is true, ive been playing with the FOX since I got S2(which was this week)... ive managed to get within 4 seconds of the WR on my favorite track Blackwood. Thats after 300 something laps heh.

I have such a hard time driving any of the non formula cars now! They seem so slow and they have a hard time getting the same grip that the formulas do. Oh well, gotta expirement some more
