In the cockpit you definitly hear sound from changing gears. (from the gearbox etc) i just thought it sounded lovely in gtr2.. but i also loved the sampled engine sound.
But i really was looking for a cheap upgrade. Because im just starting to live on myself, i don't have enough money to spend for a new pc.
I guess if a processor upgrade won't help much.. and is way too expensive for what it does, ill just stay with this for some more time.
I still can play lfs on 1280x1024 with about everything on high detail and 2xAA and 8xAF.. so i can't complain. But i have the dynamic lod reduction at maximum because when i start behind alot of cars the fps will get kinda low.
Last week i started at the back of a full grid and i saw the wheels of a car weren't even round thanks to the detail reduction to maintain some fps, that made me post this topic. So i switched from 16xAF to 8xAF and now it seems to be fine so far.
Ill add my opinion on sound and graphics, ill start with the sound.
Personally, i prefer sampled sounds.. even when it doesn't give as much info to the driver as synthesized sound would do. I played gtr2 for a (very short) while.. (then i found out about LFS) but i was blown away by the sound of gtr2.. especially the shifting sounds. In my opinion this realistic sound adds alot to the driving experience. So after playing gtr2, i found out about LFS and i was kinda dissapointed with the sound.. but hey everything else is better so the choise was easy.
Now for the graphics:
I think LFS actually looks really good. So im happy.. but of course, if i had an expensive superfast pc i probably would be begging for more.
I want to give my car setups names for each specific track.. sometimes i have different setups that helpfull people gave to me and i want to give them a name and try them out.
I can't name the setups what i want, (track/name/etc) because u can't give a long name. (sorry for my bad english)
So this is just a suggestion, i'd like to be able to have longer setup names.
this game definitly needs full focus, i love that.
Also, this is the first game ever that can get my body temperature up. (also thanks to the g25, of course) It saves money because i don't have to turn on the heater when it's cold in the room.
I think the downside is you can't be competitive when your tired.. i get home tired from work alot, but that's actually realistic. You can't be racing tired in real life either.
i have the profiler set at 105.. because the picture in the lfs manual showed it that way.. does it make a big difference between 101 and 105? My guess is no
hehe.. you got a point, but i read more people were also using the clutch pedal as a brake pedal so i thought i'd bring it up. That's why i called it a "hint" and not a hint.
And CSU you are right... but, i think some settings must be something just like auto/manual shifting. I mean, automatic shifting is easy and faster for a beginner.. but manual is faster when u get good at it, i want to know if it's just like that with the rest of the settings.. because i want to be really FAST
Hi, i have been playing lfs for a few weeks now, and am already getting alot better pretty fast. (right now im usually about 2 seconds slower compared to the fastest people in the servers i race in) Now im wondering what settings all the fast people use.
Right now, i use this: (with a g25)
- Shifting: manual
- Brake help: no (i forgot about this option, and just turned it off because i just read it can increase braking distance)
- Auto clutch: yes
- Throttle blip on downshift: yes
- Throttle cut on upshift: yes
What settings should i change to be faster? For example, is using the manual clutch faster when u get used to it?
Yes, and im still doing that.. this way i lose no time moving my foot left and right.. the only difference is i now use the brake pedal in stead of the clutch pedal.
Hey, i just wanted to say something about the g25 pedals. I bought my g25 about 3 weeks ago, and started using my clutch pedal for braking, as i don't use it (yet) anyway.. i figured it would be more comfortable to have more space between my left and right foot.. I played a few weeks like this and thought it was fine.
Now i just tried using the real brake pedal and it's alot better! I have way more feeling with it.. and my lap times were getting better after about 5 laps of getting used to it!
Of course the braking pedal is stiffer.. but i also have the feeling that it has a progressive spring, and the clutch pedal does not. I don't know that for sure.. but one thing i do know: no more clutchpedal braking for me!
