I was made up to see the return of Gio the BTCC

I've been looking on and off during the close season to see if there was word of him driving in WTCC but didn't find anything, hadn't checked the sites this week so to when I looked at the BTCC site yesterday morning and saw the news I was happy

I hope Uniq do/can keep him driving for the whole championship.

Now to start work on a skin for the FXO to mimic the Uniq 'livery' - which is mainly sponsor logos, LOL

Just starting to mess around trying to do skins again, last time I tried was for the Spyker F1 car, I made the mistake of looking on here as I was about 1/2 way through and saw way better efforts and got demotivated!

Yes, it's another Caterham R500 attempt..
Simple skin I know, and I know the petrol cap should be black..
I did think about doing some carbon fibre at the top of the hood to try and simulate the windbreaker on the real car, but I didn't think it would look that good with not being 3D..thoughts?

Anyway, here's my effort, constructive critiscm welcomed as I'm a relative newbie to skinning, and my graphics skills aren't up to much! Done in Gimp (slowly...!) , previewing pretty much each change in CMX viewer.
I think maybe the main Caterham logos on the sides need to be scaled slightly shorter and taller?

Can't believe I did the lazy bit on some parts and went past the borders, even tho it doesn't affect the skin it annoys me!

Sorry to report that my jubilation was short lived, the glitch happened again to me, have posted 4 comparison screenies in another post.
I'd already tried (prior to using beta drivers and updating DirectX) setting all gfx in LFS to low, still did the glitch.

It doesn't seem to happen as quickly at the moment tho..

Damn! spoke to soon, have had several nights with no glitches, was just racing a few AI , had been playing for quite a while, then..
<blip>
mr texture madness returns..
this time I managed to get quite a few screenshots of it, here 2 sets of before/after comparisons (messed up textures, then I switched to windowed mode and it restores the correct textures). I actually physically checked the vid card when this happened just to be sure even tho the fan wasn't running fast and it's not hot at all.
Easier to compare if you open them in sucessive tabs in a browser, or download ...

I'm hoping that if it is an LFS bug that providing some comparison shots might help track it down, say if the textures that are getting used when it freaks out are a certain offset from the correct ones or something..

hda, have you also tried updating the DirectX recently?
In another thread I'd posted about the odd texture problems I was having, but since installed the beta 175.80 nvidia drivers and running the directX webupdate (did about 2Mb of updates..) I've had no further problems (touch wood), only thing is I don't know which bit has cured it as I did both at the same time (after numerous rounds of driver cleaning, reinstalling different versions etc)

Did you try the diectx update as well?
touch wood so far I've had no further problems, but I don't know if the more recent Nvidia drivers still have support for the 5xxx series cards (I've still got my 5 series card somewhere in a media PC but it's not got windows on it so can't test sorry)

Yup, I thought that when I came across it months ago, but it's a pretty good tool, works fine with NVIDIA cards as well

Quote from Ashley Williams :Hi

Ive rolled back my driver on my graphics card and now i have been playing on it for abot an hour and its brilliant no problems at all been on he akm server and onthe racing x server its awsome. I love the fxr

A

Ashley, what driver version WERE you running when having the problems? (and which one have you rolled back to?).
Up until this w/end I was using 174 drivers, and was getting weird texture bugs (trees appearing in the dashboard/ambulance textures on walls etc!), I've run the web update for Directx (it downloaded about 2MB of updates), and also installed the 175.xx beta drivers, so far no more problems ....

Temps no problem here either, just had another 30 mins messing around on LFS and temps on gfx card didn't got over approx 46 Deg C.(that's running at 1680x1050 with full AA and AF set in LFS, textures on full for game and skins etc).
No sign of the glitch in the last few games, fingers crossed

Well I've just played about an hour or more against 5 AI's on the same track as earlier etc, no sign of the glitch.

I've installed the 175.80 beta geforce drivers, and also ran the DirectX webupdate , it downloaded a small 2Mb update. Earlier I ran 3dMark06 and it bombed out on one of the tests with a Direct3d Out of Memory error...

I'll be happy if this directx patch and/or geforce drivers has fixed the problem, but I'll wait until I've played for a day or two without it happening again before I consider it sorted.

Case is fairly cool with good airflow through it, and the fan on the card isn't ramping up to any sort of audible speed (it's more than loud enough to here when it does it after a reboot when it runs at full speed until the drivers load).

So far I haven't noticed it in any other games, and things like UT3 etc are going to be stressing the card a lot more. I've just installed 175.80 beta drivers and will start running some benchmarks and other games to see if it happens elsewhere.

Yeh, I laughed the first time , it was like "woah.. what the hell.."
but now it's getting annoying!!

I tried earlier setting all the graphics settings to the lowest just to see if it took longer to happen, but it took about 5 seconds

Can't see it being a problem with insufficient texture memory (especially now I've tried it with everything on 'low' ), the card has got 512MB and runs the game great with everything turned up, until the texture glitch hits..

I was just about to post a similar problem, glad I searched first.

For the last week or so I've been getting similar graphical glitches, I'll be driving, then theres a slight 'blip' and the textures get screwed up, tree textures in the dashboard where the rev counter should be etc, track textures can go mad... (I had the red & white chequers on track , looked pretty far out..)

If I do anything to refresh the display, either switching from fullscreen to window (or vice versa as it also happens if I'm playing it windowed), or minimise then restore it the graphics return to normal.

I'm currently running the 22 patch as well, was running the latest official WHQL nvidia drivers (175.16) on a 9600GT, thought it was maybe the drivers so dropped back to 174.74 but still same problem (yes, I did a clean install of them, safe mode, used DrivercleanPro etc)

Take a look at these 3 screenshots, (the last one is after I'd switched from full to windowed and it restored the textures).

I've just started getting back into LFS after rebuilding PC at xmas,
so a nice little suprise I got on lfsworld yesterday when I saw the new analyser. Excellent work Victor, although I had used the old method previously this is obviously so much quicker and easier.
Only one problem now, I'll have to stop myself reviewing laps when I'm at work!!

I think Spyker and Winkelhock deserve some recognition too

OK, the events leading to them being in that position were a bit out of the ordinary, but then again it was a tactical decision just like any other team can/could have made, sure they had nothing to lose , but let's not take away from the fact that they lead the GP fair and square!.

I know the red flag was fairly necessary due to the attrocious conditions, but at the same time it was harsh for the Spyker team to lose that advantage. In a parallel universe, if it had been a few of the back markers going off instead of the top teams struggling, would we have seen the red flag?

There are a load of pics of the new F8-VII from the Silverstone testing on 'Huw's site from the Spyker Fans online website (http://www.sf1o.com/).

The colours seem a bit better and this one in particular seems to show the 'graphite grey' type colour of the front wing..

Quote from tinvek :i'm in a similar situation m8, just about to buy a car that i've half worshipped since i read road test in '78 but always found something else to spend any spare cash on.

however in last 12 months i havent bought another game since i got lfs and a dfp so now its time for

Nice, Fiat isn't it?
Is that the actual car you're going to buy?
Don't see many of those around anymore (well not in the UK as far as I've seen anyway).

I'm beginning to warm to the new Spyker livery, at first I didn't think it looked as good as the 2006 one, but I think perhaps I'm biased as I saw it in the flesh during a pit visit when they were testing in September (never ever been in the flesh to any F1 so it was a memorable experience as you can imagine!).

But seeing that pic of it in it's normal environment instead of a studio I think it looks pretty good.
I'm assuming it's the same fluro orange effect on the paint as the 'old' one (it was only on for a few months!)...?

I was gonna try my hand at doing the new livery (as I never got my old attempt finished and was beaten to it by 3 other people all doing it, LOL), but this skinfile looks spot-on! Time to fire up LFS again I think, haven't played for a few months. Excellent job HEIZER

Quote from Gobby :Hehe nice to see different interpretations of the same car Mine is based on the race version rather than the studio photoshoot, a few of the logos changed position.
No idea what the chinese writing says. I assume it will be gone/replaced for the next GP.

Anyway here's the 555 Honda.
Whoever wants to use it first will have to upload it to LFSworld.

Enjoy

Blimey, you can't half get these skins done quick, another superb one!
I hadn't spotted some of the logos had moved on the Spyker shots, I was half using the studio photos and half my own shots from the testing day at Silverstone (it still seems a bit 'odd' to think I was in the pits!)

OMG, err, I don't think I should posting my half baked efforts then, and I've been working on it on and off for the last couple of nights (if only I didn't have to work for a living!!). Spent half the time learning the different tools in GIMP and figuring out how the skin gets stretched by the model.

I'd only started putting logos on last night, I almost wish I hadn't checked this post just yet (I didn't look last night . . .thankfully !), it gets quite addictive doing the "no, that's not quite right, change it" thing for hours.

Gobby, any idea what the chinese/japanese writing is from?

Well, here's my 'effort', I think I'll carry on and see how it turns out anyway, good practise as it's my first skin. I was inspired by the fact that I spent the day at the F1 Silverstone testing as a guest in the Spyker garage.
That flourescent orange is hard to mimic tho.!
Spyker MF1 Skin WIP

Just thought I'd better pop a quick post in to say I've started working on a Spyker MF1 skin for the BF1.
Early days yet, and it's my first attempt at a 'proper' skin, so don't expect super quality.

I'll post some pics up once there is something worth looking at!

EDIT:
OK, almost a year later, and I'm working on the 'latestl' spyker F1 livery (the current one that's normal orange with the dark grey etc).
Haven't seen it listed in the BF1 skins, tho someone was going to do it at one point.
Slow going tho, as I'm still learning the skills..

Inspired by spending the day as a guest in their pit garage and pit lane at last wednesdays F1 testing, I've 'just' started to have a go at making a Spyker MF1 skin, but as this is my first real attempt (aside from 5 seconds of sticking logos/pics on a car in S1), it might take me some time, and will probably look terrible. It's hard to reproduce the brilliant flourescent orange colour of the real car, even the official studio photos look a different colour.

They had two different nose cones on the day, one has the silver front wing, the other a different aero design and coloured orange. I'll probably try and get one whole car done first then change the front wing on a copy.

If anyone else is trying it please don't stop just because I'm having a go!!
