Yea
I usually just race one track until I'm very familiar.
Brands hatch I often race if it's available in games.
Blackwood is the track I usually race on in this game.
And I think you're right.. I hit a bit of a brick wall driving with my style.
I get good.. but after a point I just can't seem to improve much more.. while other players can lap significantly faster.
I guess I need to change certain factors in my style to really shave off the seconds.
Yea, I was sent a set up file from a p[layer online who was lapping very well.
Didn't make much difference to my sorry lap times though!
I guess it's all about getting them racing lines and braking just right
Thanks.
I have to agree the updates are a bit thin on the ground, with long gaps in between.
Oh well.. Still a very nice driving sim experience.
The servers seem to be very easy to join and work well.
I guess there is fun to be had with whats here already.
The price I paid for the S3 though, I do think there should be some more material added soon.
Hopefully I got this game 'just at the right time' and the devs are going to fulfill the promise of adding more content to S3 very soon!
Doesn't sound bad.
Apparently it took 8 years for S2 to materialize? But when it did it had quite a lot of extra content?
So, S3, only just been released, with the promise that there is more content to follow.
Lets hope the rest of the content doesn't take another 8 years, then maybe we will all be happier.
I also really think the devs should consider selling this game on Steam.
Games like Automobilista (great game also) probably sell exclusively on Steam?, and as you know, if you look at a particular racing game in the steam market, it gives you a list of other games you may also like - So LFS could get much exposure.
Priced competitively and with good reviews, I think LFS could do well on Steam and somewhat revitalize itself.
I want to get one but am still unsure if my computer has enough power.
And yes.. Live for Speed seems Very nice for the early VR set available at the moment.
Just look at youtube videos of people playing LFS on VR, they think its great.
There seems to be pretty much unanimous input that LFS IS a great piece of programming.
But there are also a lot of comments here saying it just hasn't been developed - or added too enough over the years.
So I guess it seems, the devs have done everything right... apart from develop and add to the game in a timely fashion?
''Now, I dunno about you guys, but i wouldn't spend 300€ on an oculus rift when i have a crapy PC...i would just take that money and upgrade it.''
I don't have a crappy pc, but its a 970m sli (dual graphics card) set up.
The minimum recommended Graphics card for Oculus is a 970, so my specs are a bit under the requirement because Oculus does not use the dual graphics card set up very well. I think I'd have to use one graphics card only if using an Oculus.
Also, VR is in early stages of development, and even with a very powerful computer, we are not getting 1080p visuals yet.
So, I think I'd rather keep the computer I have, and get a used Oculus DK2, because it runs so well on LFS and isn't that far behind the Oculus CV1 in quality.
Thanks to LFS's excellent Oculus Rift optimization, I and many others are able to enjoy VR, when on most other games you'd have to have a better rig.
I may agree with you about the amount of content available for this game considering its age though.
But I guess it depends how long ago S2 was released?
S3 is quite a recent addition I think, so hopefully there will be more to come.
''Enjoy LFS while you're hyped, m8, but dont come here here lecturing about how its better then this and that, we know about it, we lived it through the good times! Now you just can't compare an old simple game with the new complex and detailed rivals, because they are not even in the same league.''
But the interface is probably the best I've seen.
I was saying that these new games could benefit from similar implementation also - in my opinion.
I have no intention of bashing other games.
Project cars of course looks better - but it doesn't run as well and the interface is not as user friendly and instant.
Thanks
I think you summed up my sentiments in one line - a solid piece of code/art.
That's what I like
I don't know how many people play it, or if it's loosing popularity.
All I know is it is a pretty polished game if you ask me.
Smooth, with a massive amount of easily accessible options.
I'd love to see some of the options available in this game in the other racing games I play, that's for sure.
I discovered another gem earlier.
When I download the car set up files, I can just double click them and they go straight into the game just like that.
It's touched like that that help make this game what it is.
And as my original title says.
It's a lesson to developers on how to do it right.
Graphical tweaks on the fly, extensive option interface, buttery smooth game play - the graphics may not be next gen, but maxed out im getting over 300fps, that's massive since the graphics look pretty good anyway, not so ancient. And if the graphics engine is prety old, they've manage to do a great job with it, the design, bright colours etc.
My project cars game for example stutters , I don't think it has anything to do with the quality settings... it just doesnt sync right with my monitor.
I've tried allsorts of workarounds.
Assetto corsa also sometimes has those issues.
So, LFS seems well optimised to me also.
I've also only just joined this forum and only just bought the game.
So I can't tell you if the devs are lazy and have not produced enough over the years.
Maybe I will feel the same if the game is hardly updated in the next year or two.
As I say, all I know is it has a great interface and is buttery smooth.
I'm just giving my opinion.
I have a pretty powerful 970m sli laptop.
I can play Assetto Corsa and Project cars on high settings pretty easy.
I still think LFS is great.
I've no idea about 'the finest details in gaming', that's probably project cars graphically right now.
Project Cars is fun too.
I'm saying Live for Speed is also fun and everything just works well.
And for people who can't afford a massive rig for a next gen VR experience, LFS's solid VR support is great too.
I want to say that I think this game should be used a a template for any other games in development.
For a few reasons:
The graphics are so smooth. Yes, they are not the same detail as say Project Cars, but they look absolutely fine, they really do. This is due to the way they have been implemented I guess. Great looking, bright sky, with everything else just Very clear and functional. The anti aliasing works well too. The Frame rates I'm able to achieve with maxed out settings is incredible. I've also heard great praise for this game for its Oculus Rift support - also a famously smooth experience, so people with limited power computer may even be able to enjoy the experience too.
So, that's lesson one - Brilliantly optimized graphics.
Lesson two would be the incredibly good interface. So many options available and all pretty easy to navigate.
The graphics settings can be changed ON THE FLY, which is just GREAT. So many other games require you to restart the game even if you change just one setting - this makes the whole tweaking process very cumbersome.
I've also had no problems at all getting online and into a race pretty fast.
The skin modding process is so easy, even I can do it !
The game feels quite relaxing and enjoyable when driving around too - a nice atmosphere.
So, there are a few other lessons.
Anyway, sorry if this sounds too much like a review - I just wanted to add my comments on this excellent game.
I had the demo game for a while, and very recently upgraded to S3.
I couldn't set my resolution that high, but I managed to do a test this way:
I set Dynamic Super Resolution in Nvidia control panel to 3840x2160.
The Gpu upscales to this resolution, then somehow downscales it back to 1080, for better quality.
LFS looks much better with this DSR setting.
I also Disabled my SLI so I was only runing on one GPU, since the Oculus sli situation doesnt sound very good.
So, Running one 970m, with DSR enabled set to 4x upscaling, I managed an average of 140fps playing Live for speed, with 10 other cars on the track.
I probably wont get very good results on project cars etc, but it looks like Live for Speed will run for me if a get a rift.
I was considering getting a now cheaper Rift DK2 instead of the new CV1.
I don't have the processing power for anything too fancy, and from what I've heard, Live for speed is great with a Dk2.
