they are not blocking any traffic, they suggested to manually configure ports........did that ..........still nothing

i wrote a previous post describing how could not connnect to any host with an error message 'could not download guest info, connection lost'. someone suggested my isp was blocking traffic but i found out their not? they suggested manually opening ports on my router. How do you do that? will it work?
