Quote from jayhawk :Maybe I am wrong, but it looks like oil smoke from the exhaust...like it has leaking apex seals.

yah we're looking into fixing that.

Btw, the smoke is only when the engine is warming up. I know Rotaries inject oil by design, but that much? Anyone wanna confirm on this?

Quote from theirishnoob :thats a nice bmw needs about
5-10 mm of a drop on the suspention and it will look perfect

nice don't forget that rx-7's engine bay can fit any motor up to v8 so your choice of motors is great

Bleh, I doubt I will put a LS1 in there. It also takes a lot of work for an engine swap and i doubt I have the time or the skills. If were to do a swap, I'm thinking either a 20B or a Renesis, keep it NA

grr, I guess I'll have to cancel the order on those neon lights, type r stickers (R for rotary?), coffee can exhaust, and the two story gt wing.

I found out someone was selling his Rx-7 down the street on Wednesday so I went over there to check it out. Thursday my parents and I went over and negotiated the price (2300USD, well 2298, its a long story). Thursday night we paid for it, and it was mine! So now all my life savings are gone :P

On the bright side, I got a manual rwd car as my first car, what more could I ask for? The engine is recently rebuilt and the clutch is brand new. I'm planning to replace the internals of the transmission with a Miata's. The transmission probably won't last long since it's pretty old and I'm learning stick with it :P Needs a lot of cosmetic work inside and outside. Just installed a Sony deck we had lying around stripped out the old front speakers and replaced them with working ones. Going to strip the old rear speakers out tomorrow morning. Its just dead weight.

Anyways, pics!

Quote from Forbin :I'm not sure, RockyZ, but I suspect there may be something strange going on with the Core 2 Duo (Conroe) and LFS. I say that because I hear people claiming to have better performance than me with Athlon 64's. Note that I also happen to have a relatively high end video card, a 7900GT.

Actually, I'm running an Allendale and not a Conroe. But I really don't see ANY difference at all. I've played LFS with a 900MHZ AMD CPU, 2.2GHZ Athlon XP, 2.6GHZ Athlon FX, 2.2GHZ Opteron, and a 2.45 Core 2 Duo, and the CPUs that were in the 2GHZ range all felt the same since I ran them with the same video card.

I recently upgraded from a 6600GT to a 6800GS and the FPS are more consistent but I have it locked at 100, as far as graphics I have every maxed out with AA and AF on, FPS is still higher than the 100FPS limit I set. So I'm thinking the requirements for LFS is really low.

I'm not sure about this, but LFS isn't really CPU dependant.

By optimization, I assume you mean something to the equivelance of reverse hyper threading, my current Core Duo runs LFS just fine, my Opteron 165 from about 3 months ago with much lower specs ran LFS exactly the same as my e6300 which is almost 2 times faster. So I don't see how LFS really needs to optimize dual core technology cuz its not CPU dependant.

Wow this is one of the better movies I've seen! 9/10 for sure. Don't really like the song, and it only featured 2 cars

One of the easier ways to test CPU power by itself is to run SuperPi on both computers. See how long it takes for each computer to calculate the 1 millionth digit of PI. http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=36

Intel P4 Cpus are all pretty slow, the cheapest alternative for you is probably to up the ram, but besides that I think you should wait for the new Core 2 from Intel(Conroe) and do an upgrade!

What socket is your motherboard? Before buying a 19 inch LCD (which is pretty cheap nowadayz) maybe you can go get a new processor. 3800 is a pretty outdates processor. You should try getting the new dual core processors or the FX-series.

I don't know if it is just me but the sound barriers inside the car seems really weird.

In a modern mustang, you can floor the accelerator and you can hear this very even tone as it accelerates, but in LFS you hear the sound as if you were outside of the car. (I'm talking about the roads cars in LFS). The sounds in LFS sound very uneven sometimes, maybe it is just me. I guess it is the thing about how IRL the cars have modfied sounds and most of it isn't from the engine.

The power band for the XRG is way too short. You get all the power at low RPMs, if the XRG has a higher reving engine it would be a much more competitive car, NAs make more power at higher rpms so the power would increase.

THis is very annoying. It makes contact in LFS very unrealistic, in close racing in city tracks liek SO there is ALWAYS contact.

In LFS a contact that was just a small scrape could cause 2 cars to fly couple hundred feet into the air while IRL the car would have just hit each other and kept on going. This results in bad starts and causes racing expirience to be bad just because a person accidentally scraped a little bit of the front person's rear bumper. I think lag is one of the most serious problem but it isn't the only problem, there are a few bugs and it woudl be very good if the LFS team worked on that before anything else less important.

A Rb4 Evolution with some fancy Anti-Lag system and definately a little more torque would be good!

But of course, gotta wait for rally pack....

Alot of drag racers use racing spec, auto-gearboxes, but then thats cuz tehy're going in a straight line, why complain, autogearboxes in real life don't ahve good shifting points either....
