hi ecpreston - thanks for your acknowledgment on this and also for sharing your sets of general setups.

i really don't see any point for argument. some people like to race with a combination of setup and driving skill. thats great and they can do it with LFS until the cows come home. if you have the time, setup knowledge and driving skills then great, you will be the cream of LFS racers.

but for me, i don't have the time (haven't had the chance to play for three weeks now), i just want to enjoy more of LFS when i do get the time to play. like ecpreston so rightly acknowledged, it takes a great deal of time to get one car setup well on one track.

anyway, its nice to see others that feel the need to do some standard setup racing. i would not request any initiatives for this type of racing because i really don't race very much, but if this type of restricted style of racing is available in the future, i think it would be well received.

thanks for those links. i have seen them before and there are alot of setups to try. like i said, i don't have the time to test different setups to see which car/track/setup works best.

i am looking for a baseline or benchmark (or however you want to call it) racing. ie. i find that i have a 1 hour time slot, go onto such a server and no matter what car/track comb, i can just click and go in the though that all is equal. if i do well, then great! if i get lapped by everyone then i know i need to work at my skills on that combo.

i am simply enquiring to see if such servers exists(ed) and if anyone else has similar wishes.

i have no idea of the architectural design of LFS servers so please excuse me if its impossible.

i just think baseline racing would cater the causal racer and beginners very well.

dude.. getting my butt kicked is not a problem. there are always going to be better and faster drivers than me.

i am a competent driver and during many races on LFS, others have told me my setup is slowing me down. people can see i am good driver and shout things like "your gears are too short" and stuff.

being a casual racer, i just want to have a better experience without putting in time with setup.

I like racing but don't have time to invest in understanding each car/track combination. In fact, I can only find about 1 hour a week to race online.

I think LFS is the most realistic sim and wish to enjoy it more when I have the time. I understand that setup is part of real world racing, but I wished there are servers that let racers compete on driver skill alone.

I wish there are servers that restrict cars with the standard setups only. It would provide long time races to race using driver skill only. But more importantly for causal people like me, I don't need to invest time with setups and can have competitive races and enjoy my LFS time more online.

Are there such servers? Anyone else feel the same?

spot on. in real life you would avoid hitting someone at all costs. all these people that nudge and bump their way through just spoils the realism for themselves and more importantly for others.

i think i will give proracingserver a lookin.

JJ72 - $14 is super cheap. I've never hear of it being that cheap. $50 is more the standard I believe. Which area are you going to?

This is totally OT, sorry.

That rig is totally wicked. Never get it to fix in my bedroom. Don't even think it will fit in my living room.

Quote from zeugnimod :I don't know with what people you race but I think that's not true at all in LFS.

Please don't take anything negatively. By having a over 30's server, I believe the atmosphere would be alot more relaxed. This is not to say it won't be competitive.

I could be completely and utterly wrong in my assumption, but at the very least, it would be nice be know one is racing with people of a similar age group.

I think age is a good general indicator for behaviour and expectations. Just would be interesting to have such an option.

i've only had LFS for a few weeks. i let my girl of 10 drive a lap or two when ever she has free time (lots of school work). once i get a G25, i will teach her to drive with manual and clutch. right now, she is satisfied to complete laps without coming off the tarmac.

41. Nice to see many over 30's playing.
LFS is great fun and a wonderful way to keep my reflexes sharp.
... would be really great if servers are able to reference our member records to hold races for difference age groups.

Quote from Tisza :CTRA race 1 is a good place for you!

CTRA is not a good place for a newbie who is driving with a gamepad. Manual shifting only... which is hell with a gamepad.

The racing is fast paced.... so i am not going back in there until I have a steering wheel and can do manual shifting like in my car.

Pity there are no suitable servers for newbie needs because people buy the S1 lic to try the game first.

Well.. just went straight ahead and got the S2.

thanks for the welcome people.

i need alot of practice since i am playing with a dualshock gamepad only and manual shifting is tricky.

will buy s2 soon for the extra content and more hosts to play.

actually there was a warning... but never thought that there would be so few hosts to try out.

i will play with the cars in s1 first and then think about going to s2 lic.
