There is no doubt that more generic cars will give more diversity on the track and more fun behind the wheel.
I am all for more cars in the game. We really really need more cars. WRC class cars for the autocross tracks is missing bigstyle! Also LMP class cars . Theres a nice field of open wheels cars to take to the tracks, don´t think we need more cars in this class. But it would be cool to add another car to the small GTR class to compete with, and one or 2 more cars for the big GTR class. A RB4 GTR with RWD and a NA V8 would be lovely, also a RAC GTR center engine would be extremly cool.
We need some more GT class cars, at least 2 more (besides the long awaited Scirocco) as this class would typically be a BTCC class (touring cars) where you often see alot of different cars. We also need to be able to mount slics on all cars, as no racing classes in the world use street tyres for track racing, except some few historic classes..
LMP / Supercar class would also be fun, 800bhp LMP cars or supercars..
2 or 3 WRC class cars with 4x4 would be great, should be hatch cars like the VW Golf or similar. Could make a RB4 WRC version too. Nothing wrong with having the same car basis for 3 layouts (like the XR/XF) (GT, GTR, WRC). WRC cars should be like the real deal, 4wd and 300bhp.
WRC cars could also open up for some nice dirt sprint tracks wich this game really needs bad. The game physics are the best in the world no doubt about that, and exploring fast paced rally racing should be implemented as the physics would be brilliant for this!
I have said it previously and dont mind repeating If LFS want to keep beeing interesting for the players to use, Scawen and Co really need to throw us some new cars once in a while. At least once a year...!
Well i don´t think you should kick players just for crashing, but maybe it could be possible to have a spectator chat instead, so drivers wont see that chat. Could be alot like team chat ..
For info it is done in Photoshop CS3 and they are both hand modelled, not 3d rendered.
And thanks for the replies, i like them too Would especially love to drive a RAC GTR car, it remind me very much of the Lotus Elise GT3
I agree that the smaller GTR class also should get a bump with a few extra cars added. That class seriously need a RWD car to really give things a twist. Also having some sedan cars in this class would be great. The UF is strangly misplaced in this class and really should be part of a "historic class" with other cars from that era. I am thinking of Alfa GTA, BMW 2002, Opel Manta A, and Escort Mk1. Theese are cars that are easily recreated without violating copyrights, and odds are that just asking would be enough..
Regarding the small GTR class it needs some cars like the BTCC cars definatly. Would be really cool, and i hope that no matter what we will soon see some more cars in this game.
I really hate waiting for updates and i have been playing this game since 2003 when it first came.. The wait has been too long to keep me playing as new stuff is realeased very seldom. There can be several years between new cars arriving in this game...
If they would through in a car or two say once a year perhaps, i think that i would have stayed on playing...
It definatly could be interesting to be able to skin windows (rear side windows and rear window), but i think that this is one of the bottom priorities. I´d rather have a new update and a couple of new cars (the Scirocco has been on the drawingboard since freakin´2008 !) and even though we know that the boys are working hard on alot of stuff for LFS, we really dont get thrown any new stuff.. Its a shame... Work on the tyre physics is a very bad excuse for not releasing new cars...
So any kind og update, any kind of new cars, or any kind of new options like painting the windows has my undivided support
Not true. Though open for discussion i think that the FXO is more inspired by the Honda Civic 5.th gen
The Calibra was produced with a 204bhp 2,0 litre turbo engine (C20LET) and AWD
Anyways, i can see some similarities in the bodystyling of the GTR and the Calli DTM. But this is not DTM (Touring Car Class cars) we are talking about. Its GT1 / GT2 cars (GTR) we are talking about with 500bhp more similar to Corvette GT2, Porsche GT2, BMW M3 GTR etc.. Those car all have RWD, so GTR cars should all be RWD imo.
I do not think that another AWD GTR car would be a succes, as it either will be too slow like the FXO GTR in comparison to the others, or too fast as it will have much better grip.. (The DTM Calibra was actually the reason that FIA disbanned AWD in Touring Car Racing)..
But, as it has been forever since we had a new car to play with in LFS, i am at the point that i will take what i can get, so i will not complain if they make a AWD GTR car more :banghead:
I WANT MORE CARS IN LFS :wmann3:
This is also another possibility for another GTR Class car, center engined, turbocharged and with similar power as the other GTR cars, should have a very low drag, and be very light and fast.
I´m not sure that i agree that another GTR car should be AWD. I´d rather see it with a XRR setup, but with a bit more weight in the front, and with RWD. AWD doesn´t seem that realistic in this race class. Also the FXO is FWD in "original" version, but for some reason got AWD as a GTR version. I´d actually also rather have the FXR as a RWD car as the AWD system seems to take way to much power from the engine
But hey that´s just me, and i really don´t care if only there where more cars to choose from.. And i totally agree regarding the DTM, boring boring boring..
Think about this car having the exact same low rpm power output as a Dodge Viper
510 hp (380 kW) @ 5600 rpm
535 lb·ft (725 N·m) @ 4200 rpm
It would be very "heavy" to drive and throttle applied gently to prevent wheelspin, especially if it only had 5 gears. Very long gear ratio´s could be applied to give a handicap over the other cars, but would still be very realistic. The car could propably have an edge regarding topspeed, but handling should be made heavy. Think opposite of the FZ50 GTR that is butt-heavy and has massive understeer. This car would have massive oversteer (more than the XRR). Weight distribution could be around 60F40R ?
Anyways, i hope that we will soon see some more cars in LFS. I am not sure if the developers know this, but the cars and driving them are really what most players do. I have tremendous amounts of respect for the physics models etc but the fact is that once you have driven LFS for some time it becomes uninteresting. I have played this game since the very beginning (2003) and i love realistic car racing games. I always return to LFS after a year or two as this is simply just the best racing sim in the world.. Nothing can match it, and i am very sad to say that most times i re-install it i am dissapointed in the fact that the cars are still the same... I mean, the Scirocco has been on the drawing boards since 2008 and there will be a new Scirocco from Volkswagen before we ever get the 1st one in LFS released.
I don´t think that its that much trouble to make new cars for LFS, it has just been underprioritized by the LFS team, wich i think is a shame... I can live with the tyre physics not beeing finished if we can get some new cars to drive while we wait ...
I think the proper question is: should it be different ?
Take a look at motorsports around the world. BTCC use different cars, but they are allmost identical (FWD, Sedans, 300bhp, 2,0 litre engines etc).
In LFS GTR class i have often been thinking why the FXO GTR is made so slow in comparison, it doesnt stand a chance against the FXR and FZR..
Anyways, there should be some difference of course, but they should be very small. Like the torque of the engine for instance, and the use of only a 5 speed gearbox. One would also be able to think that a big lumpy NA V8 engine would make such a car a bit nose heavy, like the FZ has alot of weight in the rear.
I don´t think that a RB8 (as i call it) for the GTR class should be as different to the others as the FXO GTR is. I think it is a shame that the FXO are so different cu´s its a good looking car, and it has very good driving capabilities.
Main difference in a realistic GTR class would be the use of different engine layouts restricted by displacement on turbo charged powerunits, and normally aspirated ones, like they did in the Leman 24 race years back. They still allow Diesel engines to have 1000cc more displacement than gasoline powered cars.
If you take a look at the current GTR class cars, the Turbocharged ones has both got a displacement of 2,0litres, while the FZ is a NA 3,6 flat 6 engine. It´s almost like they thought it out that way too..
I think it´s important to keep LFS as close to the real thing as possible, and some extra GTR class cars would be absolutely lovely imo but with a minimum of differences to keep that racing close.
I have the following idea regarding the much overseen RB4 car.
It has been my favorite car in the game since 2003 and i think that it has been much "forgotten" by the developers.
The GTR class is already with a 4wd car, turbocharged cars etc. I was thinking why not a N/A GTR class car made from the RB4.
I call it RB-8 as i would love it having a relativly small displacement V8 (say 4000ccm). This will add diversity to the GTR class. And it would be completely realistic as race regulations often restrict turbocharged cars to smaller displacement engines, and N/A cars are often allowed bigger displacement.
It could have a very big torque output and almost to similar amount of BHP to be able to compete with the other GTR cars available. It could be fitted with a 5 speed gearbox to make use of the torque but this will also give it a slight handicap compared to the other GTR cars ?
Bodywise i have made the following design suggestion:
Let me know what you think. Isn´t it about time the RB got a comeback ?
Designwise i think it is a bitch to make new cars, this may also be the reason we haven´t seen that many new cars during the games 10 year run. The current cars are great, and making evolution models of the existing cars are only natural. I have followed this game since 2003 and if the LFS team has showed us anything it would be that evolvement of the existing cars is natural. It would be great to evolve the RB4 into a RB"8" GTR class car, and it would also be great to evolve it to a WRC class car together with the smaller XF car, let them both have 300bhp and 4wd for rally purposes..
But i can see that you misunderstand my idea so here is what i was thinking, maybe it makes more sense
I have made the following changes.
Widened the arches but with respect for the current body design, air intake on the side is a evolution of the small one allready on the RB4.
I have also added a big duct in the front for cooling the radiator, and a bulk on the hood to accommodate the V8 NA engine wich will typically be fitted with open throttle bodies (see Marcos LMP car). Finally i added vents in the sides of the hood, and i have also made the hood extend on to the headlights just a bit (for good looks). I removed the front air grille of the RB4 for better aerodynamics, and as the grille wont be required for cooling purposes it was really just in the way..
The frontspoiler is the original but with modifications as it now has a big front aircutter (like the other GTR cars) and a big central intake for the radiator.
The rear view i have drawn inspiration from many other widened GTR type cars, and have made open cooling vents in the sides for the brakes in both front and rear arch extentions. The rear part of the RB is difficult to design in GTR-mode, but fitting large fender flares would be a shame (like on the FXO). I´d rather have the widened arches fit the bodywork as on the FZ.
I still think that making a "RB 8" would be a great idea, we have no V8 powered cars, and they need to be represented in a GTR class. Often you will se that race regulations allow bigger NA displacement engines, than the turbocharged ones. Also 4wd should be removed and the car should be RWD like any other GTR type car.
I figure that engine stats should be that it peaks at around 5500 rpm but has a massive torque wich would mean that gear changes should be accurate. Also having only a 5 speed gearbox with longer gears will make good use of the V8 torque.
Yeah i know this thread is old but the issue remain. I would still LOVE to see a RB4 GTR.
Now alot have been saying "we allready have a 4x4 GTR car" and that is the truth. But the FXO is not a 4x4 car, it was made 4x4 when specced as a GTR. So what could be wrong with making the RB4 GTR rear wheel drive ?
I love that car, it is the best looking car in the game, and handling has always been splendid, but it always needed just another 100hp. I have made lots of configurations with it so it has almost rwd (5% front wheel drive) and its a blast to drive.
Powertrain: An RB4 GTR could be powered by a inline 6 N/A engine producing around the same amount of power as the other GTR cars, but what could be really interesting would be a high torque small displacement NA V8 (it could be called RB6 /8 GTR) at around 4000cc ? This could also mean that the RB GTR could have a long ratio 5 speed instead of a 6 speed gearbox giving it maximum usage of the engines massive torque but still giving it a handicap in comparison to the other GTR cars.
Bodywork: RB4 GTR should have a really violent body make over, real brutal with massive intake vents in the hood, large fenders, and a real big GTR style front bumper. A big ass rear wing should also be fitted along with some very big GTR alloys.
That would really be what could make me play LFS the next 8 years too
As a final remark i think that the FXO GTR should be made more competative against the other GTR class cars..
Hi guys, have been out of the game for some time but some time ago i revived it.
I have been with LFS since 2003 as a licensed driver and i really think that we could do with more cars.
Don´t get me wrong, when S2 appeared i was delighted to find the GTR cars and the UF.
After a while we got the F1 and a small open f2000 class car. Great great great...
But i really think that we could have more cars. There has been no new cars for the rallytracks since the launch of S1 as none of the newer cars can be mounted with rally tyres.
What could be cool was a 4wd rally version of the XF GTR (evolution maybe?) or preferably a brand new car for this part of the game. We have been driving the RB4 since 2003...
Also i enjoy the tracks of course and here we have the same lack of cars. I love that the GTR class cars can compete against each other, but there is too much difference. You will never win against a well driven FZ.. This is a shame as it could be cool with more different cars in the same class that all have the power and traction to be able to win.
It shouldn´t be too difficult to use one of the existing cars as basis but simply just change the bodywork and sound for instance?
It would be cool with a Mclaren F1 look alike car, or maybe take a simple basis car like the RB4 and make a GTR car from that ? Looks alot like the Supra anyway, so theres lots of inspiration out there for race car likenesses.
I hope that there will soon come some more diversity on the carpark of LFS as the current is almost worn down. The addition of the Scirocco is great, but really, we could do with at least 5 more cars, a couple of EVO Rallycars, and a couple of GTR class, or Super GTR class cars (300km(h cars).
I know this has been up before. But i want to draw attention to it once again now that the Scirocco are postponed indefinatly.
How about that GT1 class. The GT2 cars now are fun, fast etc, but we do need something that can almost match the speed of the formula 1 cars.
I also suggest both open AND closed cockpit designs. They wouldnt even have to be that new in design... Could be 3 or 4 cars, and of course there would need to be alot of adjustment posibilities. Also one car with a Diesel engine would be pretty cool.
The GT1 cars are pretty much timeless in design, so wether you use design from the old Group C cars, or from newer designs doesnt matter.
Take for instance a Lola
One would think that design wouldnt be so hard when you have free hands, instead of having to digitally copy a real life car.
Anyhow, would be tons of fun, no doubt..
______________
ALSO i think that the whole offroad thing has gone bust. There is only very few offroad rallycross tracks. And there are no cars dedicated only to this type of racing. The closest you come is the RB4 but i think that a offroad rallycross cart, or another 4x4 would be very welcome, maybe even make a EVO rally version of the little XF would be a awsome thing, as well as a upgraded RB4 with some more power, also for rallycross.
I have discovered that drifting in LFS2 is quite fun. So have alot of others. I have seen some addon with a point system.
This work very good but its not official.
If anyone out there is thinking yeah that drifting need to be more serious heres a suggestion.
Rules are simple. Cars race against each other like in a normal LFS2 race. Only thing is that points are beeing collected for drifts. But the winner get his points doubled up. That is done so that noone can use 1½ hour per lap and collect 68745132184312 points per lap... That means that like in real d1 multicar races there is a winner of the race like in normal racing but here you need to mix good drifting with speed to get more points..
