Advice for a Euro demo driver

S2 licensed
Hi, I'm thinking about getting an S2 license but have some Q's:

1. I see average online racers at peak time are 1,000. Half run the demo so only 500 are S1/2 users. There are few demo servers so those 500 demo racers are packed into populated servers making finding a popular server easy. I see there are a HUGE number of S2 servers so is it harder to find a good populated server (e.g. 9/12 racers not 2/12)

2. How is the European scene? Of those 500 racers I imagine some are American, some are Australasian and I've seen some Asian people on the forums, too.

3. Is it easy finding a beginners S2 European league?

Thanks!

Thanks for the help, I've hit 1.16 now. If I can consistantly get down to 1.15 I think this is a purchase.
Getting rolled on Blackwood T2/3 with FBMW
jelston
S2 licensed
Before I plump for an S2 license I want to be competitive at mid-level (or I chance wasting my money by being crap and not enjoying the game). I'd like to set a 1.15 in the FBMW on blackwood but I'm stuck at 1.18.

My biggest time loss are turns 2/3- the chicane right after turn 1. I see good drivers can go flat out and take both curbs but:

1. If I apply even the tiniest bit of throttle on the middle apex on the curb I spin

2. If I slow to avoid the apex curb I don't carry enough speed down the long straight

3. Because I have to avoid the apex curb I don't have a good enough line to take the exit curb (good drivers seem to take a huge amount of curb- and grass!- here).

My big problem is absolutely zero confidence riding a curb- applying throttle and/or steering and I know I'll spin yet other drivers seem to be able to do it. I've tried the default setup, the default hardroad setup and the WR holder's setup (which has even more oversteer-leading-to-spin-on-curbs).

All of the above applies to the last turn (the left hander most take in 4th gear leading to the start grid) for me too. Good drivers take the curb on the apex but if I do- even when not using throttle- I spin.

Playing with a DFGT.

Quote from CSU1 :Which directory's did you test this on, where they on the same disk, under the same credentials etc...?

That seemed a one-off and it no longer works- so no copies work online.

Quote :if your router has a built in firewall, for gods sakes turn it off

There isn't an on/off button for the firewall for this belkin router. The firewall subsection of the router menu has various bits (DMZ, virtual client, WAN ping block etc) and I've made is as open as I can.

[EDIT]

I'm a numpty. I found the firewall off button and disabled it. Still doesn't work.

Really bizzare as LFS was working last week (but I had problems before that). This seems totally random. I can't see it being the ISP disabling the ports as like I said I was running it previously. No changes have been made to the PC or router...

Stumped!

Gah so I'm stuffed? Bought a Logitech DFGT just for this game. D'oh!

Are there any active developers I can e-mail who could tell me the client ports i could open? Worth a shot.

The plot thickens: I've been trying to run LFS today and decided to check my router security log to see if the router thinks LFS is a hack attempt. I think I might be on to something:

Quote from Belkin Router :Apr 25 12:04:42 kernel: PORT SCANNER ATTACK detected from 79.178.111.241. Source port is 57018, and destination port is 42266 which use the TCP protocol.

Not sure if I'm brave enough to open port 42266 to test it...

[EDIT]

I opened the port, still won't work.

I have no problems with any other online game.

Also, I'm in DMZ and have forwarded TCP/UDP ports 29339 and 63392.

Still no help

Quote from bunder9999 :with 8mbps down, you should be getting a LOT more than that. i'd check with your isp to see that your modem isn't wigging out.

It's a congested line- my speed drops from 800KB/s to 50KB/s during peak time. Still, it's a stable speed.

Wired using a belkin router, shared with others but currently the only one using it. An 8Mbit down, 512Kbit up connection (reallistically my download is only about 50KB/s at peak time). On WinXP SP2.

Though as said in my 2nd post- my broken copy doesn't work, my clean one does.

This is really putting me off buying an S2 license as I lose my settings every time I do a fresh install

Confirmed as a bug- by installing LFS to a new directory I can play multiplayer again.

The original LFS copy still does not work. Overwriting the install does not help.
Waiting for track info...

Nasty little bug I've had twice now. First time an install fixed it, but now I'm stuck with it.

When joining a multiplayer game it fails at loading track info.

Connection is fine, my PC is in DMZ, uPnP on, etc...

Help!

My car:

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0

225bhp, 0-60 5.7s.

45,000 miles but had a brand new engine put in at 42k.

Since removed the surround plates as I couldn't afford tuning it up after getting the new engine.

Future plan is a full exhaust system (will have to be a cat system as I'm wary of the plod being only 24), air intake filter panel, EcuTek engine remap and MAYBE an uprated fuel pump- should push it up to 280bhp but that'll cost about £1,200 and my insurers hate me as it is.

Current mods are pretty generic and non-performance boosting (mud flaps, dump valve, MOMO interior).

Just put a set of Bridgestones on the front. Bloody expensive but my god they don't half stick to the road. Amazing.

Logitech DFGT Clamp Question
jelston
S2 licensed
Hi lads, thanks for replies on my other thread knocking around here- I'm now considering a DFGT for NFS.

My one concern is my desk which the wheel will be clamped to: there's a lip approx 1 inch in, 1 inch in length and 1/3 inch thickness.

I've uplaoded a photo here

My question is will this stop the clamp working? Either the clamp must be able to get behind this lip or fit in front of it. It's neigh-on impossible to get dimensions for wheel clamps so I hope you guys can help!

Cheers.
PC+XBox360 Wheel?

Hi, my PS2 pad simply doesn't cut it for LFS- there's constant drift as it doesnt centre properly and I can't change the deadzones on WinXP.

As a result, I'm looking at a wheel. Given their cost I'd prefer one that works with my XBox360 too (in anticipation of Forza 3) but I'm struggling to find one. The only one I have seen is the Microsoft wireless one but:

1. I'd have to buy a wireless receiver for the PC
2. The rumble function won't work on the PC.

Anyone know of one?

Failing that, the Logitech Driving Force GT has full functionality for PCs right (i.e. rumble works)? And is £60 a good price for a new one?

Cheers for any help.
