Understood, I just (possibly wrongly) assumed there would be at least some noticeable difference in the way the cars reacted that would be visible, particularly in replays under heavy loads or running over curbs etc.
I'm sure the new tyre model will be worth the wait.
Have to say I was surprised nobody made a big deal about that comment too.
I'd love to see some videos of it in action, until now we've just had those few screenshots right?
Scawen/Eric, is there any chance you could release a video with a full lap onboard and the same lap from replay cameras? A side-by-side synchronized video would be perfect.
As expected, the move to DX9 with the latest test patch has fixed this issue and LFS now correctly utilizes the discreet GPU in my HP laptop Thanks Scawen!
I'd like to see a list of the available audio devices within the options menu to be able to specify which one is used by LFS rather than simply the default device.
In my case I have my PC connected to both a monitor with speakers and a TV via HDMI. I can switch the default device in windows to be one or the other but I'd like to leave it set on speakers for music, browsing, general PC sounds etc. but use the TV output in LFS.
Some applications such as Media Player Classic allow you to specify the output device so it should be possible.
I'm definitely planning to get the consumer version of the rift, just hoping it won't take them too much longer or be too expensive when it finally does come out.
One of the best things about LFS is that it doesn't take a monster PC to achieve the solid 60fps the rift requires to work it's best.
Just tried this out and it fixes the issue! After placing the linked files in the main LFS folder LFS is now using the Radeon GPU so it indeed looks to be a case of switchable graphics not working with DX8.
I guess if Scawen completes his conversion of LFS over to DX9 this issue should hopefully get fixed in the process.
As I say, the switchable graphics is working as intended on the other games I tried. No matter what settings I use for LFS it doesn't activate the Radeon GPU
As a side note, some other titles such as the Resident Evil 6 benchmark tool display the GPU name as Intel 4000 but it is most definitely using the Radeon from monitoring GPU load and the apparently decent performance.
The issue seems to be LFS specific, or at least from the 10 or so games I have tested on the laptop.
Within the options screen of LFS there is no button to select the Radeon GPU and using the AMD driver to force it has no effect unlike all the other games I tried.
I am using GPU-Z, a free software to monitor loads on the Intel and Radeon GPUs as the game is running and it's most definitely using the Intel and the mediocre performance suggests the same.
If anyone else has similar issues please post your details to the thread as it may help pinpoint the issue.
I already have LFS set to High Performance in the switchable graphics settings in Catalyst the same as I have with the other correctly functioning games but it doesn't make a difference
I have to agree too, I bought rFactor 2 at launch of the beta and have played most of the ISI gMotor based titles and some of the more common mods but they all seem to lack something in the physics compared to LFS.
I think perhaps a bit too much emphasis is put on tire physics in sim racing although by no means is it not important. I feel once you have the tires simulated well the next layer is suspension geometry and basic inertias of the car body; this is what I feel LFS does better than the rest. Just watch some replays or youtube videos and see how natural the cars lean and skip over curbs etc. all other sims I've tried look very rigid and smoothed/filtered in comparison.
LFS cars appear to have convincing weight, momentum and flex in the suspension that all comes together to make it just right.
