But the person that was lapped before doesn't finish the racedistance either. He is however ranked (-1 lap). But as I said it isn't much of a warry to me, but it's in contradiction to the real life.

In the S2 leugue the race is at South City town course with the TBO cars.
i think you mean the demo league, thats BL1 FBM.

Ooops so I have a lot of trainings hours coming up 'til then. Couldn't manage to be within 15 seconds to the fastest, last time I was there.

Quote from Gunn :When the winner crosses the line everyone else is now on their last lap. If you fail to cross the line on the last lap, you're out. DNF = did not finish.

Obviously it is implemented this way. I was just mentioning this is not how it works in real life.

Quote from G!NhO :good, so are you gonna do the race on sunday?

Not sure now, depends a lot on the family.

Why do you ask? Want to see a mammoth defeat?

To be serious again: It might be interesting to join a race, never done this before. As it is FBM and BL it would be a good idea, as this is the combination that I feel most comfortable with so far. A real newbie, you see?

I've been there for two days now. Most of the time on the BL-FBM-server, but it wasn't as I expected.

First thing I noticed on day one, doing my personal best of 1:17:26 was the worst time by far in this race. Everyone else was driving under 1:16.

Second day wasn't satisfactory either. Doing two races, the first was running normal - except that it seems people don't stay for 10 laps. Second race was like hell. In lap 3 or 4 a guy came onto the track, forced me off the facing line, finished one lap in 1:13 did another extremly fast intermediate and left. Then, when on lap 6 or so, a guy crashed me out of the race - intentionally, as I was overtaking on the long straight and suddenly he turned the car right - throwing my car into the rally-course. So pit and restart. Then someone with the nick :>D (or something very close to that) appeared tried to start a game (while the race was still in progress) and then started to crash into all the cars he found, when I wrote "you should be banned" he claimed to be the admin himself (no need to tell me he wasn't I understand that). But as there was no way to ban these ... (insert whatever you like here) all the others including me left.

So my experiences were pretty bad so far. As long as there is no admin to help in such situations, and there is no way to vote to ban people like these, there is nothing that's going to draw me back to these servers.

To be fair, I have to state that there was a pretty nice and friendly community and race on the absolute-beginners [endu] server on tuesday, so it might be more correct to say the demoserver seems to suffer from these problems.

Quote from BenjiMC :nah, u didnt cross the finish line.

Of course I did, only a lap earlier. It's true I didn't cross the finish line after the race had officially ended. But the finish line is a valid finish line already before the winner crosses it. At least in real life racing.

O.K. I will post a setup this evening. But the point is, that I have the problem with all the normal setups.

So when I download one, I just cannot get the car around a turn until I change exactly one detail, that is stiffen the rear antiroll-bar. Suddenly everything works fine. So imagine every setup for a RWD with a rear antiroll-bar set to a high value (90 for FBM for example).

O.K. I checked it once more and the problem seems to be, that the car is oversteering in mid-turn. This would explain why setting the rear-roll-bar to very hard helps. But as this is not a "normal" setup, there has to be something wrong with my driving.

What is it? What should I try to get rid of this problem?
Car Setup Question

There's a point with car setup that I haven't fully comprehended so far. So maybe you can help me on this - well you definitely can.

I have always trouble using a predefined setup for a RWD, the cars are very unstable accelerating out of a turn. So I understand that I am a bit to aggressive on the throttle, but still I cannot control this good enough so far.

So what I found out ist that when I set the rear antiroll to almost full strength (leaving the front as it is) then it's quite easy to control this. But there is no rose without a thorn, and therefore this has to have a drawback, which I guess is that the car has problems in turns that are not perfectly plain. So my plan is to slowly reduce the setting to normal values as I get better in car handling.

Reading the manual it is far from logical to me that this works, because antiroll should have an effect in the turn itself, not when leaving it. So here are my questions:
  • Why does this work?
  • What are the downsides of this setup?
  • What other (better) alternatives are there?
  • Is the mentioned problem really connected to being to aggressive on the throttle?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Quote from G!NhO :Absolute-beginners.nl ^^

When is this server online? I found it once and raced a bit, but I couldn't find it the last three days. IMO there is a big need for a server for beginners. My typical lap-time on BL-GP with the FBM is about 1:20 (and my fastest are about 1:18), so I'm always at the back of the field on "normal" servers ... at least until half the field drops out and has to pit

But I think it would be a nice thing to race with people at the same skill-level.

Don't know exactly whether it is a bug or intentional, but anyway it seems wrong to me. Not that it would matter much, however.

When you cannot finish the last lap then no result is recorded, even if there were people behind you. So what am I talking about? Let's look at a theoretical race:

Let's say you are doing a five lap race with 10 cars. You are the leader when finishing your fourth lap and have already lapped 3 cars, and then for some reason you are out of the race. So in real life this would mean, that you are ranked 7th, as you finished lap 4 faster than these three you lapped. In LFS you are simply not ranked, isn't that odd?

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Tbh the infomation is laid out in easy to look up at a glance sections, it's not like it's one huge big wall of text. It takes like 2minutes to scan through it. It's not really an excuse. Maybe I'm just nit-picking?

I would guess you are indeed. I had trouble understanding of how to register as well. I went to their race server and it told me, I have to register first. Then I went to the webpage and they told me I have to get a password on the raceserver. Sounded a bit like a deadlock situation, until I found out that I had to connect to the Race Server 1 (number 2 wouldn't work).

Of couse you could argue that I found out myself in less than 15 minutes, but than not anybody thinks the same way. Just my 0.02 Euro

Most probably you already did that, but have you checked how fast you connect to the net? What's your actual (not promised) upload speed?

Might be that your WLAN has trouble in the room you are. I have a room in our house, where I have trouble getting WLAN working fast enough, meaning less than 10% of the normal speed I have in other rooms of the house. Strangely this is problem changes over time, so sometimes I have 30% of the speed and then it drops again and recovers within minutes.

Laptimes

In my first thread to this question (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=49590) I got the advice to ask here for help. So here I am.

I am a guy who has a passion for figures and statistics. Therefore it would be very useful to me to have records of all my laps done in LFS. In the long run it should be able to show how I'm improving (or not :schwitz.

So what I would need is a tool that extracts the following data from the game (insim when I understood that right) and puts it into a textfile. The data-needed should be:
  • Date/Time
  • Track
  • Car
  • Sectornumber
  • Sectortime
An alternative would be:
  • Date/Time
  • Track
  • Car
  • Laptime (can be omitted, as it should be redundant to sectortimes)
  • Sectortime 1
  • Sectortime 2
  • ...
  • Sectortime n
Is there anything already available that does the job (I haven't seen the right tool so far). LFSStats does something similar as I understand, but the needed data is pretty tough to extract (at least for me, as I am not a programmer).

I'm a good enough user of the Office-applications to be able to make my statistics from this point, so it wouldn't be necessary to have a toolset available for interpretation of the data, but I'm not able to catch the original data.

For me the task sounds pretty easy, but then for the ignoramus the unknown seems to be easy.

Quote from AndroidXP :InSim, actually

Well I was guessing this, but as I understand it doesn't exactly export it to a file, but just make information available to an interface. I am, however, not able to write a program that interpretes it and writes it to a file.

Quote from Gentlefoot :LFSStats will do the job. It generates race summary information and also lap by lap times. You could then write some PHP to read the results pages and extract the info you want. Then you can do whatever you want with it - stick it in a database and write all sorts of queries.

Thanks, I'll have to try it. I thought it only makes a summary for the race and the best lap. I'll test it. However I won't be able to write PHP as I don't even know how that works. I'm a user no programmer. But I think I'll find a way. Copy and paste and then some work in Excel should do the job as well.

Quote from Gentlefoot :LFSWorld also stores all you lap times from every single race you ever complete.

I saw this already, but I think I cannot extract them there, can I?

O.K. I'm new to the game and I have to confess it is very addictive. So first of all, Hi to everyone here.

I'm a guy who wants to see how he improves, so I've been searching for a tool that simply saves some information about every lap (course, car, splits and total time)I take (online and offline). However even searching for many hours didn't bring up anything useful for me, or so it may seem at least.

I looked into vcom, lfs stats, and some other tools, but none of them seems to simply save information about the laps. Is there anything I could use for that? Wouldn't need to be a thing with a lot of complexity - just a tool saving the needed information every lap into a textfile. I can do the statistics then on my own using a spreadsheet or database program.

So thanks for your help in advance and see you on the race-track, you can recognize me being the guy who drives the slowest lap-times.
