Quote from flymike91 :as long as you can keep the motor running at $9 per gallon.

all of western europe/scandinavia is extraordinarily anti-car. I love to drive it is one of my all-time favorite things to do whether I'm going somewhere or nowhere at all. I go on a joyride at least 3 times a week and I love that my country doesn't punish me for it.

Nyoxx did you figure out which car you're getting?

taking into consideration the citroen ds3 with 150 hp, the megane and the polo. if i like the dsg im getting the polo, if not i gotta decide between the ds3 or the megane.

btw its impossible to keep it at 9$ per gallon since ...
1 galon = 3.78 liters

and 1 liter = 1.58€ meaning that 0.26 galon is 2.23$ lol

Quote from RasmusL :Doesn't work like that though. The car has to be registered in the country you drive it in, and that costs money. Here, the registration fee is 180% of the cars price. Driving it all the way from UAE will just cost a lot of gas

agreed. for example say a car costs 18000 euro here, u have to pay two taxes, one around 2000€ and another that raises the car price and is like 4800€... thats why they're so expensive

Quote from flymike91 :I wouldn't buy any of those cars for those outrageous prices. You're paying BMW or Audi prices for a car that is neither luxurious nor fast.

27k euro ~ $40,000 American dollars. For some reference, the Astra is basically the same car as the chevrolet Cruze, which can be bought here for ~$15,000 or 11,000 euros.

Most people here are telling you to buy a second hand car because the quality of car you get for the price where you live is absolutely unacceptable. Remember, the status symbol of the 21st century is not a bland new car, it's being free of debt. You posted here for advice, there you have it.

you do have a point man ... but it's always been like this >.< ever since i was a kid, yes i know this country is messed up! but what am i to do? people here are retarded, if u search for a decent second hand car, theres like 2 in 1000 .. its rly hard to find. i even thought of importing cars but the taxes would end up ****ing me up one way or another

Quote from wolfshark :How about a DS3 150THP
I think, it's looking great, it's very practical, very nice interior, very nice seats, not that expensive, not hard on the bumps, smaller than the megane, great engine!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE-Pgs1wBxw
Of course DS3 racing is even better, but it's limited and expensive.

I don't have the money so i have a 750 Eur Citroen ZX Not very powerful but maybe the best riding hatchback that handles great too, but if i had the money - definitely DS3 150THP or if i want a bit bigger car DS4 200THP

Do you have a race track nearby? If yes - i suggest you to buy a bit boring cheap practical car, and with the remaining money buy an old car and make it a trackday car. Look briefly at that thread - http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/f ... index.php?showtopic=22724
There are only a few pages, look at the pics of the car and how it evolved.

yes the ds3 is indeed amazing hehe love the looks of it! kinda short on the back seats though, and the fuel consumption is awesome. but its the option i did not mention lol =P very nice post u got there mate

Quote from Jakg :You seem to forget that performance cars are DESIGNED to be driven fast.

Forget fuel consumption - on a new car depreciation will be the biggest killer.

If I had €25k burning a whole in my pocket I would not be getting a hatchback.

i'm not looking for a performance car. im lookin for a car i can use daily without spending much fuel and that can be fast aswell. lol

Quote from AudiBG :As they told u, forgot about the Renault .. For me it is levels behind his opponents in this case. (Megane RS is another thing)

The comparison between Astra and Polo is not very good because they are in different classes, you should compare the Polo GTi with Corsa D OPC/VXR and the Astra with Golf VI.

In this case I'll choose the Astra but probably 1.6T, the Polo is faster probably smoother with better handling but I'm in love with the design of the new Astra /and mk3 gsi addicted/ and it is newer model..

So for me in this case you should choose Astra GTC 1.6T, if not get the Polo /im sure its fun to drive it/.

As kars said, for me 20k are much money for such cars, yes they're new but for these money...

Try driving both cars and choose by tests, don't listen our opinions.

i've had two astras before :P and 1 corsa. the reason why im not comparing polo to the seat ibiza cupra or corsa opc is cuz both of them are much more expensive, spend less fuel and are slower lol

or Integra Type R if you wanna splash the cash.

i would never buy a performance car in second hand. i bet all of them are all thrashed cuz ppl buy them to drive fast! why would i spend my money on a fast used car? besides, dont forget the fuel consumptions. ps: fiat is shit --" i've swore to never have 1 ever again

Quote from theirishnoob :and their goes me thinking that portugal had it very Expensive in terms of cars and such, yet their always a mad man out their willing to buy a DSG'd timebomb.

goodluck.

the more i think the less i want the polo only because of that mad gearbox... yes portugal does have it rough man, but most of us kept spending without thinking while i've been saving for a car since i was 12 years old and now (10 years later) i've fixed enough money to get a car. and about the dsg , i think that no matter how fast it shifts and how comfy it is in city driving, nothing can replace the joy of pressing a clutch pedal, practicing heel-toe and all the driving feel the manuals can get to you.

Quote from pb32000 :wtf? for that money you could have SO much more car if you bought second hand. Even something just 2 or 3 years old.

not in portugal ...... here the taxes are so ****in high... like a polo diesel costs 23000 euro dude lol

By the way, for the polo to have the same level of equipment it'll cost 27238€
the megane costs 26380 if you take that special blue paint, if u take white it costs 25770€
and the astra costs 26615€

Quote from RasmusL :I know, I drive a DSG.. Also, when you shift manually with the stick or wheel paddles, it goes into manual mode for some preset amount of time (like 10 seconds) before reverting to automatic mode. Thus, if you manually up or downshift it will only ever stay in that gear for 10 seconds even if you keep constant speed.

Still, I love it for driving on public roads. I see practically no reason to drive a stick shift in everyday traffic.

but if you put it on tiptronic mode it wont go back to D or S mode right?

btw whats up against the renault? why is it so bad

Quote from RasmusL :Depends on what you're after, DSG is a fine gearbox, shifts like a manual and not at all slushboxy. But you won't have anything to use your arm for, except keep it on the wheel

did u know if u put it on semi automatic mode, if u hit the rev limiter or get rly close to it, it shifts automatically?xD

yeah the only thing stopping me from getting the polo is the dsg gearbox .. i know what people say about renault xD but i love the megane, amazing looks

Quote from R34GTR :I'd go for the Polo, but I'm biased because I own an older generation GTI

ever tried the dsg mate?xD i've had two astras in the past 10 years and they've been amazing cars even tho i have to say .. polo has the best engine and to me megane has the best looks xD

keep the responses coming peepz

p.s: how do i add a poll?XD
Buying a new car!

Hello! I've been reading reviews, watching videos, going to the sellers and i cannot choose which car to get still! im stuck between 3 cars so i thought it'd be good to hear u guys opinions xD . all 3 cars cost around the same.

My main choice is the New Polo GTI.
it has 180 hp, 250 nm of torque. supercharged and turbocharged. comes with a 7 speed dsg gearbox. 0 to 100 km\h in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 229 km\h (official values). this car runs around 7.5 liters/100 km of fuel which is the lowest of the 3.

Interior (gear stick wont be like that if i get one xD ):

http://pictures.topspeed.com/I ... n-polo-gti-13_1600x0w.jpg

Now, for the second choice! It's a renault megane coupe 1.5 tce(130 hp and 230 nm) gt line.
this car has amazing looks! a lot of equipment ... rain sensor light sensor, self rectracting mirrors, rear parking sensors, leather seats .. you name it. all of that is optional in the polo.its a manual 6 speed gearbox. however, this car runs 0 to 100 in 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 205 km\h (official value) and spends about 1 more liter per 100 km than the polo (around 8.4)

As for the last not but least choice, an Opel Astra 1.4 turbo with 140 hp and 200 nm of torque. 0 to 100 in 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 202 km\h. it seems to spend around the same as the megane, but is slower.
this car is very well equipped even though it doesnt have as much things as the megane. To me, the best thing about the astra is the interior, with all the red lights and all, its rly nice. i can also get the 1.6liter 180 horse power engine which runs 0-100 in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 223 km\h. it's also the 1 with the highest fuel consumption -.-

So these are my options. i'd like to add that i've never driven a dsg gearbox and i love manual ones.. i'm afraid its boring to drive a car with a dsg gearbox. another thing is that the polo is the smallest of the 3, even tho it isnt that small, i personally think that the megane and the astra look .. tougher, hold on to the road better and have a better driving feedback than the polo, if u know what i mean xD. so please, it took me like 10 minutes to create this topic so it'd be good if i got some responses :P

peace!
