Quote from mrodgers :A friend of mine appeared from beyond the woods to make fun of me.
I've driven manuals all my life except for my first car (hand-me-down) and now since I bought my wife a new one and got her old one as a hand-me-down. 5 more years and I get myself a new one too . Unless I buy used, which is what we are trying to avoid.

We haven't been friends for a long time......LOL!!

Quote from Hallen :lol, jokes on you dude. Automatic transmission have a lot more clutch slippage on shifts than a manual transmission does The smoother shifting an automatic is, the more clutch pack it burns up for every shift.

Have you ever seen Nighthawk drive a manual tranny!!!!???

Quote from mrodgers :I'm thinking, again, advantage goes to auto clutchers. How can you slip the clutch if the computer is doing it for you?

Talking tintops, clutch and h-shift, I would think that the only time you would get too much heat in the clutch during racing is at any time you start from a stand still, at race start, or any time you spin out and start back out from a stand still. For me at least in my real car on public normal road driving, clutch slippage is very minimal when shifting gears.

But, I don't know how that would relate to a smaller lighter clutch in race cars or single seaters. In the road cars, if assumed a stock clutch, they are made for ordinary folks driving on ordinary roads. They are designed to take slipping on a normal stock road car.

....especially since your daily driver is an AUTOMATIC....

Anybody who has frame rate issues can try changing the color quality on your desktop from 32 bit(high quality) to 16 bit(medium quality). See if it helps increase/or stabilize your frame rate.

try right-clicking on your desktop.
go to: properties
left click the properties tab.
In the "Color quality" drop down, select "Medium (16 bit)"
click apply/ok to accept the settings.
try LFS and see what you get.

Framerate SHOULD be more stable and a little higher.

I loaded LFS on a Dell M90, dual core-2.0gH P4, 1gig of Ram, 512meg video card. I had AA and AF turned the whole way up and every graphic option maxed.....90-110fps.

Quote from starry :Methyl, were you getting disconnected or was the game crashing to desktop? Also, was this happening in single player mode too?

I can see how a bad video card or driver might cause the graphics engine to sick up and dump you back to the menu, but not lose a 'net connection to a server. If that was the problem, then you'd get dumped back to a menu from single or multiplayer, I think.

If you find it was a bad card/driver, then you could replace them and get the game running in 32bit again. If not, we've got a bug on our hands.

No..not crashing to desktop...just getting booted from on-line servers. I am on a dial-up connection, so that MIGHT have soemthing to do with it too.

Quote from rcfrik :Hi!

I loose the connection to a server almost everytime I've been there in about 5 min Is it my line here at home? Is the wireless router fu**ed up or is it only my LFS that is fu**ed up? This is really annoing, I can't do a thing before I loose the connection. Please help me!!!

ALL that are having troubles connecting or staying connected.

Try switching your color from 32 bit, to 16 bit.

Worked for me...........took me 2-4 months to figure it out (maybe even longer).........but I got it.

I was having REAL troubles staying connected to servers. It got to the point that I didn't even TRY to race LFS. It took me 3-4 months to figure it out.

Every time I tried to connect.....IF I could connect.....I could spectate for about 2-5 minutes, then lag out.

I turned my colors from 32 bit to 16 bit and my problem went away. I tried everything from ISP, to virus software, to reloading LFS!!!!

32 bit to 16 bit was the answer. It even kept me from connecting to the master server and receiving track info.......
