Well I add/removed everything to do with the nvidia card, then booted to safe mode and used Driver Cleaner Pro to remove any traces of both the ATi and Nvidia drivers, I then restarted and installed the latest nvidia drivers(84.21) and I've gained about 30fps in general, whilst not quite as good as my 9600xt it is a lot better than what it was and is at least playable now.

I tried doing a second clean install of LFS but the FPS were about the same, I still think there is a nvidia driver issue but I'm just pleased to be able to at least drive now with a resonable frame rate.

Thanks for your help.

Quote from Gener_AL (UK) :If LFS is the Only game causing the problem, id re-download LFS >> unzip to new directory >>> test the new install.

Hmmmm yeah thanks, thats probably worth a try.

Its pretty strange, CPU usage is only about 50% when LFS is running and even with the 9600xt the p4 3.2 is certainly adequate , I've have also removed the cfg file and it makes no difference.

I have the 84.21 drivers installed at the moment with no luck......
Nvidia 7800GS Performance Issue

I'm beginning to think there is an issue with the GeForce 7 series drivers and LFS, I have just upgraded from an 9600xt to a AGP GF 7800GS, the performance from that ATI card was pretty good and I had no problems getting 80-90fps most of the time, I now have a GF 7800GS(a much faster card) and I'm really struggling at times to even get 50fps and at worst it can dip down to 16fps when 10-12 cars are in view.............. illepall

I have tried several other games (Doom3, Half Life 2, rFactor, Farcry, Day of Defeat Source/Counterstrike Source) all on very high settings and there is no performance or stability issues, LFS seems to be the only game suffering this problem.

My power supply is only a 350 but considering the system is stable in the other games I don't believe that it is the problem, however to rule out that I have ordered a bigger antec and should have it today, so I'll report back if that solves the issue.

My only conclusion is thats its a driver issue, I have tried older drivers back to the 83.90s(first driver to support 7800GS) without success, the other strange thing is changing resolutions makes very little difference and the fps are lower with AA & AF turned off rather than when they are set to the max for both.

Anybody else with a 7800GS or GF 7 series having fps issues? Any suggestions?
