Something with a LOT of turbo lag, and when it spools up, it makes it very hard to control on the track.

Wrong. Having the lack of new track additions means eventual stagnation for a game platform. If you have ever worked in a game studio, this is a bad thing and has a negative effect on revenues in the LONG RUN. In the software world, you gotta build new things to stay ahead.

Quote from Becky Rose :If the ring was released for LFS tommorrow it would slash the number of active servers where you could find great racing, it would divide the community in two just as oval racing has done.

The Ring is classified as a public toll road in Germany, NOT a corporation owned race track. Copyright is NOT a problem in this case.

However, LFS already has BMW branding on the current version, so they should negotiate and do a BMW Ring Taxi M5 addon too!!!!

I'm willing to pay more in order to play LFS on the most difficult track on earth. It's also pretty bumpy, which presents a challenge in setting up the suspension.

It'll teleport the car to the finish line once you hit 80 mph and 1.21 jigawatts kick in.

The problem is that both PhsyX, ATI, and Nvidia are working on their own solutions regarding physics rendering, so it's better to wait until the dominant player emerges.

And lots of black and white smoke out of the exhaust and hood when it tells you "I can't take this shit any longer".

Modded engines? How about engines which puke oil, coolant, and rods onto the track if you really screw up?

It is possible now, on the hardware news, physx PPU announcements were all over the place today:

How about this:

LFS Gumball 3000 Edition
Rating: M
Party hard, get laid, evade cops, and race on the best roadcourses for 3000 miles....

Quote from deggis :Yup, cool idea but this is not Grand Theft Auto, Mafia or "Microsoft Car Simulator".

I'm suggesting a closed source version, as described above. Another plus is more revenue stream for the game studio behind LFS.

Quote from tristancliffe :You pay for the licences and you model it, and I'm sure LFS will consider it. But as LFS is and never will be open source I don't think you're ideas hold much custard (or something )

Idea for Improvment Selection and Implementation Process

In the open source communities, there are "bounties" as incentives for folks to write new software, such as drivers and improvements. I suggest this system:

1) Improvments go through an approval process
2) Depending on difficulty, a set donation target is set by the LFS development team with a donation system controlled by the team.
3) Development starts on an improvement when the donation goal is reached

For example, adding the Nurburgring is a high dollar donation target. Any thoughts?

That is a much needed mod. The RB4 sounds like a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, so it should have been set at 19psi boost peaking at 21 in the first place, with around 280hp at the crank. A boost controller feature should be available for off-line play at least (I wish).

Quote from QIKVR4 :yeh i agree about large boost increases, but for realism, maby a 5 -6 psi increase for say the RB4 would be perfect, just enuf to bring that mid range torque up.

most turbo cars are able to handle a slight (say 5psi) boost increase, with out new ecu mapping (while this does help even more again its not essential)

if your gonna say a boost controler isnt realistic, then LFS tweak isnt realistic..

as for realism full stop, the turbo mapping (while just awesome to have turbo cars) really falls down with standard turbos taking to around 5-6k to spool...

just thorught it would be somthing untill tweak is availble, for thoes who crave a little more power from the road cars...
