I think the biggest difference here is that Notch is a man of his time. If you had to talk about a big developer acting like Notch, that would be Valve. They both are open to the community, meaning constant feedback in both ways (look at the last lighting engine used in Minecraft).

One the other hand you have Scawen and co. which act like Nintendo: This is our product, which is great, and the community builds a lot upon this great product, but without any aid from the developer. All the way around, in fact. You have this six years old game that still costs 30€. It's a great game, but you cannot pretend to sell an unfinished product for 30€ like it's new. Until you're Nintendo or Scawen & co.

If they were more clever, they would drop the price, embrace the community and release modding tools. Maybe not to add tracks, maybe not to add new cars. But maybe to allow people create a good AI, or built a good 1 player game where there's a barren land. Or maybe update the ugly graphics. It would be a much more interesting project then, because the only interesting thing coming from LFS in the latest years has come from the community alone.

So, the big difference is that Nothc is clever enough to realise it's not 2005 anymore and people expect something different, more open, now. Specially from indie devs.

I bought S1 some months ago, and I'm buying S2 soon when I get used to the S1 tracks, cars and my new wheel. A friend of mine will buy S2 soon too.

I don't think I'm the only one new to this game. So, well, it seems to be far from dead.

Thank you. You were right, I was over-revving.
Problem with long races

I've got a problem and I don't really know where it comes from. The thing is, I start a race with a XFG, I play against the computer (just because I'm getting used to my new wheel and don't want to mess with people's races). I'm trying long races, so I start playing and everything's fine. But when I reach 5th lap, the car seems to lose steam. I don't have problems in the corners, I'm not losing much grip in them, it's just the engine seems to lose a lot of power and it takes forever to reach the fifth gear.

I've tried different setups, but it happens all the same with every one of them, even those that are told to be used in long races. I've checked my tyres, and they are not in bad condition. I don't know what it is. It's like the engine breaks or something, because I can lose some 5 seconds from one lap to the next.

I haven't tried with any other car, because I think it's better to get used to the wheel with this one. I'm using manual gears, by the way.

Any idea of what's happening?

So I finally got the DFGT and boy, I'm racing like shit, but I'm having the time of my life! I've started playing BL, with XFG, just to get the hang of it and I'm running like 5 seconds slower. The good thing is I'm no longer burning my tyres down.

I've also tried FBM and wow, you can really feel the speed there. I'm really happy with my purchase. In the end I spent 81€, shipping included, so everything's fine

Now I need to spend a lot of time to get back to my old self. But one thing is sure, I'll be racing with a big grin on my face.

BTW, thank you all for leading me to this awesome wheel

Hmm, thank you. Which one would you go after?
Need advice to buy a wheel

I'd like to buy a racing wheel to play LFS and some other games as well. I've never had a wheel before, so I don't really know much about them. I'm thinking about spending around 150€ on a wheel with a shifter and pedals (maybe I'm asking too much for that price, I don't know >_<).

Could you please tell me about some of the best wheels in this price range?

Thanks for the welcome. The thing is, I'd like to know the ins and outs of the circuit and cars before I move on. I realise this is a simulator, it takes time to learn everything. I just don't want to move on too fast.

Of course once I get the S1 license I can play the demo content, but something tells me that I will want to try the new cars and circuits and Blackwood won't get the love I can give it now. I have no pressure to move on, I'm enjoying myself at the moment and LFS can only be seen as a long distance race :-D

Hi!

I'm from Spain. I've been playing for some days now and I'm glued to this fantastic game. I'm not good at it, but I hope it will change once I start playing with a controller instead of keys (I ordered a 360 pad a week ago).

Anyway, I still only have the demo, but I will be getting S1 down the road. But since I'm getting so much out of the demo, and there's so much to improve, I'd rather focus on what I have now than spreading too thin through all races and cars.
