first of all I want to say thank you to everybody for your positive response again, it means great deal to me. fuel for my gp2 engine Smile thank u.

Quote from NENE87 :maybe you can use LFS textures?

without developers permission I won't even think about using any asset from LFS (I might look into them to make my textures more compatible, but that's it). if there ever will be positive response towards implementing it, than we can talk how to combine assets to make it more friendly to existing ecosystem. but if they say its no go, than at least I will have my own model with my textures. for example I would be more than happy to use vegetation textures, it would have saved me lot of time, but am working on it to make my own plants. I will add many variety of trees for example spruce tree, there are lots of it on nurburg and I have not seen single one in lfs, so far I am figuring out how to create good realistic trees generally.

Quote from Aleksandr_124rus :The first is the licensing of Nordschleife track. The track has a license, and for permission to publish in the LFS, you (or LFS devs) must come to an agreement with the copyright holders of the brand.
https://nuerburgring.de/business/vip-business/licensing?locale=en

I see they are saying u need license to use "NÜRBURGRING BRAND or LOGO or track Silhouette". nothing there about track itself, actually Nordschleife is not even track officially, it is public road, that is why every car needs number plates to go there and on crash police arrives. correct me if I am wrong of course. I am focused on creation. official license for implementation is not my department, it is job for officials. there is always Mod route as we can all see in Modded cars. I could not care less about name "NÜRBURGRING Nordschleife", name is only good for marketing, to get more users, more exposure and that is up to devs/officials. am small time lfs user with imaginary future in my head. I might as well doing it for nothing...oh and I did not write them yet, I can't get around it if I should write them or not.

Quote from Aleksandr_124rus :holes / devs have no time / track editors in the public access

well, everything gotta start somewhere, holes or no holes, track must be created first. for sure I will make mistakes and many things could be done wrong, and will be needing fixing later. I do what I can now...if there will be ever track editor that means there is track Mod possibility, and that is another way to add "Nordschleife" for sure.

Quote from rane_nbg :Once you add some textures, it's going to be eye candy.

I suppose the hardest part for the finishing touches is to add some roughness to the track surface. Do you plan it and how do you plan to do it? Of course, it largely depends on whether you can get laser-scanned track data or not.

yepyepyep, I hope I can manage good end result as game deserves...I understand that if we want this track we also want it to be good, with roughness, bumps, bankings, jumps and all the good stuff. I will definitely implementing all of that, I am using every peace of data I have to make all of them and so far you can see on video how its going. definitely there is need to test drive. adding all those details needs testing, driving. at this moment I will create models and if I have to redo stuff to work in lfs engine I will edit it. just give me small glimpse that it may actually happen in lfs and I will work 10 times harder.

hello again,

remember guys I said in beginning that I never had experience doing something like this? well, now I have more knowledge whats what to make stuff for game and let me tell you it is not a walk in the park. since I am doing it for first time, I am learning on my mistakes and that is why it takes me long time to do stuff, I had to make stuff couple times over, because each time I learned that previous method was wrong. even 3d software I use is simply not friendly for it, now I know. it is pain let me tell you but it is what it is, I have greater respect for devs for making such great track of LFS. when I am playing LFS now I notice details that I never even noticed before, technical side how it is made.

before I go in details I want to say BIGBIGBIG thanks to "NENE87" publicly as well, he helped this project development unmeasurably.

now...slowly but surly I am working on it. I start adding more details like curbs, barriers, textures etc...this is what it looks like at this moment.

lot of my time went in creation this fence barrier, I created high poly accurate version or real piece and than bake it on low poly mesh, this is process that needs to be done if u want to see it in game, u have to make is as small and light for engine to load and render. this is new for me and it took me lots of head scratching to figure out how to do that as good as I can. result is externally light but still good looking asset.

every texture I made from ground up, metal net, cable, etc. and now I have my own very accurate textures that I can tweak as wish. here are some examples:

it is hard work no denying, I understand exactly why such projects may take years. especially if one or two people working on it. again kudos for devs.

anyhow, I might miss something cuz I did lot of crap during last update, but this are the main things I can remember. and to finish it of here is some teaser, enjoy.

hi, I am sure it was probably suggest 100 times before, but I did some mocap and want to share it. I want to see engine output graph, you want to see engine output graph, everyone wants to see that. would be great to see it Smile

there is many reasons to see this graph, it has many application for true petrolhead drivers. and it is simply satisfying to see as well, sure. not only power and torque, would be very nice to see boost as well.

Quote from Tazka :Nurburgring seems to be supportive towards giving licensing to video games according to this:

huh, appears they have somewhat accurate representation of track. if there is interest, officials can write to provided email, what are the terms to get data...curious if they will provide data to individual, but doubt that. maybe I will write them. good find tho

Quote from NENE87 :This is truly amazing.

thank u Smile

Quote from NENE87 :I'm really interested in how you can get the scale correct with the height map. I know how to distort my mesh, but the scale is not correct relative to Z.

in my case, I had elevation markers. I know highest and lowest elevation points on track. so I scaled height map generated mesh until those two points met and that's is how I scaled Z axis.

"Jules Tacheny" track seems relatively flat, it should not be too hard. but for hills, I do not know how to help u to scale terrain. maybe there is some known elevation markers, exact sealevel for "Jules Tacheny" maybe, it would give you some starting point. here I found Belgium topographic map, find your hill and use this map to scale your terrain Smile

I could not make GIS plugin to work and I did old fashion way, manual labor.
as for drone, I have none. I used drone footage that I found in internet. that's pure luck. Smile

anyhow, I am very happy that there is someone in this community that shares same skills, wish you good luck with your project and if you will need to talk to someone about it do not be shy write me a message or something Smile

hello fellow racers, hope you are all fine, making babies and drinking good wine. as for this thread, I am reviving it, but before I do that I have to say that there was little to no progress since my last post in this thread, I was busy doing other stuff and did not find time or motivation to continue doing it, sry but it's hard truth...it's been around 7 years since suggestion, imagine that wow. and since than, lot has changed. for example I've learned couple other 3D software that opened some doors for me which was closed before(we will get into it later)...in LFS, mods has been added, which sparked idea in me that even if "Nordschleife" can not be added officially due to bureaucracy, fees of simply lacking proper 3D models, it can be added as Mod as Map. imagine, if we can add cars, maybe down the line LFS will give us feature to be able users to add Tracks as well. this, this can be it where we shine, I hope so anyways. and it is crucial for me because in order me to improve map over time, I need to test drive on it. with methods I use, I simply can not make it perfect inside 3D software alone, I need testing ground, with cars driving on it. reporting, suggesting from users, so on...that is my motivation now, and I decided to restart making it, and I did.

now, shall we began?
I switched 3D software and start research from scratch, just verify and refresh my memory. surprise surprise, old project was crap, curves I pulled from wiki was complete garbage and height map I had, was not aligned properly on track. so I start hard labor and pulling images from google map, stitching them together until I had whole track perfectly aligned and start tracing road.

after I had whole track traced, than I used height map(best I could find in whole interweb) to make basic elevation changes. I spend lot of time and brain to properly align track on map, not as easy as someone might think, tricky, but I think I aligned it good for now.

and yes, we have elevation for whole surroundings as well

Next I pulled onboard video and used it to fine tune every turn, elevations, banking, curb locations, terrain overally, etc u name it. I have now video that it attached on camera in 3D that follows my road exacly as video goes, basicly I can see every part of the track am modeling in oboard video.

Next, I start adding details and pulled some drone video over famous turn "Karussell" and used new soft I learn to reconstruct correct 3D model of it(technique I used is Photogrammetry and it can be very accurate, just as accurate as Laser scanning if you have good footage), door I was talking aboutSmile

so, after many hours this is what it looks like at this moment. it is overall basic shape.

I am trying to be as accurate as I can be, using every pictures and videos I can find, any sort of date. all this new work has been done in matter of week, in my spare time. so far I have desire to continue working on it and will see as time goes. any feedback would be greatly appreciated, or if u have some sources of good pictures/video I can use.

I will keep posting updates as soon as I will have some noticeable progress, let the old gods and new gods be with us. cheers
Minimap Improvements?

I think it can at least show start/finish and split locations, as optional even turns and split times maybe?
Road Traction Map
gaboteam

Hello, I am suggesting that Road should have Traction Map instead of constant/same traction on every part of the road. it should have more grip in places where rubber is most embedded in road, just like in real life, in dry conditions. in wet it would be opposite. I am thinking about this long time, so better to leave post here rather than in my head. cheers

Quote from rane_nbg :How about the ideal gas equation, pV=nRT. This tells us that pressure is a linear function of the temperature for a gas in a closed constant volume. So, basically by looking at temperature, you are also reading the pressure up to a constant multiplier. The two quantities are in very close relation.

hmm, okey formula is formula, but we do not see Tire Air temperature number, we only see color. surface temps differ from tire air temps, transition is very gradual. so we can not count on surface temp numbers to calculate tire air number to calculate pressure. would not be simpler to just see pressures realtime? I like to tweak setups sometimes and pressure number is pretty important if u ask me to see, to understudy behavior more, if nothing at least am curious to see actual crazy pressures before tire pops Smile

very cool, I never noticed "pad thickness", I will take it in consideration when driving...all in all my suggestion comes down to this: if we could see actual pressure number in realtime, so I will edit OG post, thanks

Yes I remember it was reworked, but I do not know every technical aspect of it...while I can see realtime date of other things like clutch and tire temps, suspension state. I can't see pressure anywhere, can I? is there a way? if there is I do not know it...so if pressure is as u say all good, than only thing I am suggesting is that, would be nice if we can see it realtime, like this for example. see pic.

store setups on LFS server(in game upload/download)
gaboteam
S3 licensed
I think all our Setups must be stored/backed up on our accounts online and when we login we should be able load them from server(in game).

why do I think its good idea and why it should be done as soon as possible? because many user will benefit from it (especialy new users who has no idea they will need to start crawling lfs folders, skins is another topic so I won't say anything here), they won't loose their sets, because and it is very unnecessary for user to save backups of their setup folders, when it can be saved LFS server easily here is math behind it why it is no big deal to do:

lets say setup backup limit will be 1000 for 1 account. 1000 setups weights exactly 128KB, now multiply it on lfs accounts(I do not know how many real working accounts lfs has, lets say 10000) 128KBx10000 = 1.28GB...I think it is very reasonable to use this small amount of space on already existing LFS server to store our setups. I think already existing server is more than capable to spare 1.28GB and more.

What if you are some kind master guru lfs nerd setup maker and 1000 is not enough for you? I do not know about u, keep 1000 good ones. in my 10+years of playing lfs I probably maxed out on 300sets if I sum up all useless sets as well, so I think 1000 is good number to keep them reasonable. even now my setups folder can use some cleaning and it contains only 138 set. this matter should be discussed, how it will be handled, what happens to sets more than 1000.

What if every user start filling up 1000sets online and much more users start playing LFS and 1.28GB is not enough? some attack to fill server space or something? for starters it can be managed like, for S1 100set, S2 500, S3 1000...for dead users more than 1 years can be sent warning mail to rejoin if they are interested to save their sets...and if more than 10000 active user will come, more money for LFS and couple more GB should not be any problem as I see it.

anyhow, there is some management needed Yes, but 99% users will benefit from it for cost of nothing and make our life easier, more users satisficed and not mad that they lost setups.

*edit: I completely forgot that there is already way to store sets on account but on LFS website and I do not know any way to accese them from In Game(perfect example of function that so unused I forgot it existed)...ground for this feature is already there, it's just should be funtional and easly accesable like in game setup synchronization, auto upload or something.

Quote from TFalke55 :The difference is that Rockingham was modelled by Eric (within his workflow), based on the TLS data gathered from APR Services, who only delivered the point cloud.

wow that is pretty cool, I did not knew Smile compared to Laser scanning, modeling technique that I am going to use is joke, it's true. but I am still doing it and if anyone from LFS will be interested I will open to communicate and make 3D model of track as suitable for them as I can do...and I think Laser scanned data would be Triangulated mesh and heavy compared to normal modeling style, but very accurate of course. Only concern might be the scale of the project. Maybe start out with the GP track? Then move on to the full on course? Little steps. Haha

Smile scale is really big, I can't make it in week but it's doable even if am alone. starting from small track might be a good idea to check how me and them can work out, but will see when they will answer, if they will answer Shrug

Quote from Skytrill :I sincerely hope you'll be able to port it to LFS but it might take a while until modding is supported. Scawen mentioned he was working on important graphical updates along with anti-piracy thingy, then back to tyre physics and later on there might be modding support.

Nords licensed shouldn't be considered too seriously as the cost for licensing a track is apparently freaking huge if we are to believe what Kunos said in an interview in the last year or so. Licensing official cars seems to be a much cheaper route if we are to believe them (free publicity).

They already added new Track with S3 so that door must be open I think. Yes it will be biggest and heaviest Track in LFS arsenal, but it also will be coolest = more people will be interested in game + if they add more security = less piracy = overall success

for licensing, I believe car exist currently in LFS is already a replicas of some real cars, but they does not claim its Celica or Mini Cooper does it? why do not them add map without any licensing? and does not call it Nordschleife...if licensing is that costly

whats wrong with you guys? no one can claim that its boring in any ways. it is one of the most dangerous track for racing out there. It is Hard, all kind corners and zones, ideal for testing as your car, as well as driver...its not Boring damn it, NO its not BORING for any kind racing and I hope some day I will take my car to Germany to pay 130euro for most boring 20 km in my life

Quote from TFalke55 :You said the geometry of the track comes from an SVG and that it would be a perfect match on Google Earth? How did you check that exactly, if I'm allowed to ask.

see pictures, Red line is line I have and its over on Google Map image, there are some ares not perfect but you should consider elevation + SVG is not 100% perfect and small tweaks is nothing, I say its perfect! (I take center 1 curve from SVG, not sides)... If you can give me source for better data please let me know, for now I am working with what I can see and find + I attached Height Map (best I could find) that makes elevate my track curve...base width is 8 meter and I should resize some areas manually, minimum width is about 6 meter as I read.

Quote from RC-Maus :@gaboteam maybe mail the devs Thumbs up

already did Smile

Quote from Mikus1212 :How many days until racers will get bored with nordschleife? 3-4?

if in current state I play this game 10 year, I do not think Nordschleife will make it more boring. what I can say is that your point of view is completely useless in terms if we want any progress here.

current length of track is 20674 meter, that is very close to 20.81 km

Quote from asyed :Also, "you should let me know how I should do it for perfect integration...", LFS is based on a custom engine that COULD be entirely different to what you think it is...

complex game assets are created outside of engine in 3D software and than exported whatever format is required for native support for engine...if cars and tracks are modeled inside lfs engine than good by and happy new year, but I am 110% sure all cars, tracks was created in softs like 3Ds Max, Maya, etc. and textured and prepared for LFS engine...I do not see problem here

for more ground, here I attached two image...based on that graph and height map I extracted from map I get accurate elevation. betven RED and BLUE dots are 300m difference and I checked mid sectors, matching as well. actual curve is from wikipedia SVG file that was converted to curve, I did not draw any polygon by hand so its perfect match..than I checked that curve on Google Map global view and curve is perfect match for road as well...anyways, cant wait to hear from Devs

Nurburgring Nordschleife
gaboteam
S3 licensed
hello LFS community. I can't tell I am gamer, but it is only game that sticks around me about 10 year now? holy cow...and progress of developent always was slow, and still is sadly. anyways, I am sure there was tons of requests for adding "Nordschleife" and I am completely agree with them, that would be something.

to Developers of LFS
I am CG Artist, that's what I do for living. I am offering you 3D Nordschleife mesh with textures for game (with correctly set UVs, and realistic Textures). (you just should let me know how should I do it for perfect integration in LFS engine) I will maintain correct length, dimensions and elevation (as accurate as I can go with all data I can found Online) I already gathered most of that data and already start making it.

I want to get rich with offer?
I am not asking anything in exchange, I would be more than happy help developing LFS.

Am I bluffing?
No, and all I can do to prove that I have skills for job I can show some my previous work, please visit my portfolio if you are interested www.gabo_gatchava.artstation.com

Where is my motivation come from?
besides that I love this game and happy to help Developers on their way, I am modeling Nordschleife for my personal project. so I am doing it anyways, I just want to know should I consider for adapting mesh for current game specifications and should that be my main Motivation or not?

Challenges for me
I never created such big terrain, should be correctly unwrapped UV for smaller texture size. Accuracy never was my problem and I was never scared challenges, I'll learn what should be done to be done job correctly. infact I can go with insane amount of details if needed. (currently I am experimenting in UE4 for correct UV maps and mesh exports)

Real Question
lets assume that I am able to create 3D Nordschleife Map for free, nothing. would you Guys/Developers consider it to be added in Game?

cow bless this thread. thank you very much and let others know about this, lets make "Green Hell" happen Smile
