Quote from the_angry_angel :master.liveforspeed.net is resolving to the wrong address.

You probably set it in %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Remove the entry from there (edit it using notepad) and do an ipconfig /flushdns and see if it resolves to a different address. If not reboot and it should. The fact that you can't see means that you're being a tit, or its set somewhere else.

The 5 millionth post of proof that editing the hosts is not recommended.

I didn't change anything in hosts (since when does checking out mean changing something?). There was nothing in it. I was in WINDOWS not %WINDIR%. I'm not a moron, but thanks for implying it.

I will try /flushdns - something's got to work.

Edit to add: it worked. thank you.

Quote from the_angry_angel :What does a "tracert master.liveforspeed.net" reveal, out of interest?

(start > run, type "cmd", click ok, type the above into the command prompt).

Solved my issue.

I can't connect, either. I've not changed anything. I'm running X now. pinging master server got nothing.

checked out the windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts - nothing. Nada. Zip.

Machine is running XP home. Tried port forwarding. Have turned off firewall. Have directly connected to DSL modem instead of through router. HELP!! Called ISP - they're no help either.

(even tried tracert I have that attached)
