Since calling hi-res skins 1024x1024 ones is ludicrous I've no need to pay.
(Com'on, 1024 skins are like from the time of Nascar 2003...).

If they would offer *real* hi-res skins like 2048 or BETTER ones, then I would *consider* it.

As it is it's no worthy.

Downloaded the UN-censored version.

No wish to "think of the children".
I'm more than adult and I do race with adults in private servers.

Quote from SpaceMarineITA :I think that the situation which you have described is much different from the actual LFS one:

GPL is simulating an old f1 season:
simulating a season mean with all the goods and bads of each car.

LFS instead is creating and simulating completely fictional cars:
These are not meant to be identical, but at least balanced each other.
Atm FXO on longer tracks can be 3 / 4 seconds faster then RB4.
2 drivers with SIMILAR skill but different cars are realistically unable of compensating 4 seconds at lap eachother with skill difference.

Imho eh

However the amount of these limitations should be written in public somewhere (a page on liveforspeed.net, in game, on lfsworld), because if someone is developing a setup for a champ race in a, for example, 2 weeks time, and 2 days before the race you change the amount of ballast and restrictors to one car, at least he has the time for adapting his setup to the new values.

There should be an advice for each change some days before too (like 4/5 days before).

Well, let's not get about the fictional cars (since everyone can see clues of which real car/s inspired every single LFS car) but in any case... Balancing car would be understandable in spec racing (well, duh!) but with DIFFERENT cars you CANNOT have a full balancing effect.
No real done racing series can achieve that.

Unless you take in account how latest regulations are ruining FIA GT and WTCC.

Yes, it's a game.
Still it is a simulation.

Honestly if I wanted a catch up/balancing option so that each car in each class would be doing the exact laptimes I would have played Need For Speed, not LFS.

I hope that's not were LFS is heading.

Quote from Scawen :No, the global restrictions are meant mainly as a correction for what we can't get exactly right during beta testing. Though at the moment it's more wrong than it should be in future - for example the FXO turbo is just so light it's unreasonable - it must have a carbon fibre body and also those wide wheels like a racing car - but it's supposed to be a road car - it's just not right. That's why it has to carry a lot of restriction now. After the physically incompatible patch, restrictions should be back to zero, until we find with time and setup development that one of the cars goes too fast, then we'll restrict it. It's not intended to be that every host has different settings. It's supposed to provide consistency, so that you can drive your XRT and win, not just have to go in the FXO for any chance of success like it has been until now.

That's all well and good, but in the old times when I and other people raced in GPL noone bothered if someone did choose a Lotus over a BRM.
Either we got the realistic conscious knowledge that Lotus and Eagle would be obviously quicker than the others and we were fine with it, because so it was in real racing back then in 1967 and today too, or quicker drivers went to choose by their own whim (without pressure by the other people) slower cars and saw it as a challenge.

Our last two seasons were won by a guy that did choose a Cooper once and then even a BRM... and battled with a full grid of Lotus, Eagle, Ferrari.
I often did choose a Brabham, and even if I knew I would be helpless with it against the others, there was a lot of fun nonetheless and it was the car I liked more to race.

Can we have at least the option left to be so that the cars will be UNbalanced?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks Scawen!

Some questions arise though.

Since unfortunately at home (I'm in another town on my woman's PC) I've no net since last year (not even house phone to use at least 56k) and I've to swallow bitterly thinking to all the online racing I've missed with my small community, I wanted to know if:

There will always be the possibility to download manually patches (or full patched updated versions) from the site.
Automatic updates is a fantastic feature and I'm so happy is in, but since my sorry netless state I've had often to go to friend's home, download on a pendrive the patches, go home and install it.
Lately, after one update install, I've had my LFS install locked in demo mode since I had no time to bring my whole PC to a friend place to connect it online and unlock it as it may happen with patches (and also with this last one).

When I'll be home I'll still be without net (at least for a while) so I will ask a friend (or do it myself) to use a cell phone as a modem and just connect quickly [it's hugely expensive to use GPRS or UMTS technology to surf the net or download stuff, in Italy] to unlock it.

But if autoupdate would be the only option in the future, I'd be forced to spend lot of money just to get the latest version.

I KNOW. There's no need any of you says it: I should get a net connection home.
But since I'm in a not so good money situation and so is my family, I'm just saying that people in my situation may make do just with downloading the patches from some place else, install them and then unlock them (if needed) in the way described before.

I hope it's not a nuisance and the LFS devs are not set to an exclusive "auto-update" system from now on.

Just my small worries.
And yes, I'll repeat it, I'll try to get again a net connection home, don't flame me, I know the game is meant to be played online.
Heck, I love it and I play LFS since before S1 was even out.

Thanks in advance to the LFS Devs for any answers to my worries.

Well, after the Red Baron public skins it is time for another creation, a private skin, which is the one I strictly use alone.

Side story:

I first emailed and asked permission to the authors themselves of the webcomic (www.little-gamers.com btw for whoever is curious, it's quite fun) and they liked and appreaciated the thingie, so it goes to show that if asking politely and nicely people are quite open to help out or give the green light on this.

The guys even liked a lot that I did ask first because not many people do

This cover was made before I changed eventually the light blue parts to a slightly darker blue, to give it a more solid feel.

ok, here the skin is (I've also a UF1 version, still strictly private):

Quote from ZED28 :That is true - at which point my images are hosted here and not on my own space. This is not a dig at anyone here but as folk are pointing this out, there are features built into vBulletin (and other forums) that anyone with a slow connection can enable. These features include hiding signature images, inline images, avatars etc. so there is no real reason for the folk with fast connections to limp along at 56K technology. vBulletin is a solid board and supports this kind of community easily - I've had no slow experiences with this site at all so the self imposed restrictions seem somewhat scewed if it's for "56K friendly" reasons only.

Well, in one city where I reside I've 4mb broadband... when I am in my home town at my father's place I've 56k instead.

And guess what?
Your pics really slow down my browsing in the pages.
Surprise, surprise.

And all considered I'm spending by the minute to browse it and there are RULES about being "56k friendly" and the guy that setup this thread already asked you to...
well, heck, FOLLOW the RULES and change your pics putting ithen as attachments.

You don't care about 56k users? Well, guess, I don't care if you've 10mb broadband... that does not give you any special permission to not follow the rules.

Thank you.

Quote from axus :Imagine the lag in this if your hand was on the wheel and it only started moving to the lever after you pressed the button to shift and then only moved the lever. It would be horrid. This can be dealt with for upshifts by moving the hand to the lever as soon as you approach the end of the power band, but you could still confuse it and downshifts would be almost impossible... trust me, you don't a hand "teleporting" around the cockpit - it will look even less realistic.

Lag? Teleporting? Less realistic?

Someone has never played at Grand Prix Legends (which came out in 1998), I suppose...

Here I present you with The Red Baron

Fok DR I 425/17 was the airplane number of the Fokker Dr I on which Manfred Von Richtofen was shot dead.

The iron cross I used is pre-1918 just because it is more evocative.
(The real one on that Richtofen's Fokker was already the normal straight black cross
German air force started to use in 1918)

I think it just needs a slit of Spandau machine guns... :biggrinfl

Hi to all.
This is my first skin for LFS, although I've done skins for other games.
Yes, I'm only S1 licensed right now, but soon I'll be joining the S2 legion
I just couldn't wait so I painted a car LOL

The colours are inspired by my own homeland (Sicily in Italy) official ones, as you can also notice from the logo on the nose.

I like the not-too-many-logos look of it.

Feedback is welcome!

P.s.: Hei Finnracer, I lived in Lahti from 1997 to 2003 because I studied there!
Ah, the memories of Finland... Moi!

Your cars is not bad at all, but it would need some crispier logos...
If in search of good logos go to www.brandsoftheworld.com , it's the best place to start looking!
Great eps files
