Quote from nisskid :that thing is rad, good lick of paint and that would be a mint cruiser.

Quote from Tinytacohead :My '91 was a freebie so I sorta know the feeling. (eventually sold for the '96M, but not until racking it over 200k ) I'm just saying keep your eyes open is all.. First I ran into a hardtop less than 2h away, (local was a HUGE shock in this area), for a very reasonable price & then bumped into Torsen's in any flavor for a mere $300?! Believe me, snows + LSD is crazy too, though still just as fun. I like your other upgrades.

About the Volvo's, that old one's neat. It'll no doubt look excellent once finished!

Haha, yep! My eyes are open. Actually as far as lsd's, the guy I bought my miata from had a clutch-type FC rx-7 diff that he had rebuilt, and is supposed to fit in the miata rear end. I'm a broke unemployed college student right now, but I hope to be getting another job within the next few weeks, so I'll have to shoot him an email and see what he wants for it. Oh, and he's got a set of Tein flex too, that used to be on the car. Damn it, now you're making me want to spend more money on my miata...

Thanks though guys! The amazon is such a rad cruiser. Tough as nails, drives smooth, and simple as a tractor. Runs like a swiss watch and gets 25+ mpg. And the attention it gets is crazy.

I was hoping to retain the original paint, but I think, once I get after the little surface rust there is, I won't really be able to match the faded factory paint. :/ I'll eventually respray it in the same color though, I think it's just perfect for the car. Kind of like the bit of white accenting black in a tuxedo - The dark blue paint just accents the chrome perfectly, and makes it look super classy. First time I went and checked out the car for sale last summer, I knew I had to have it. Especially for $1400.

Quote from Tinytacohead :Hardtops are nice in the winter.. the doors don't freeze shut anywhere near as bad/often & you get hella good visibility. (surprisingly less noisy @ speed etc too) LSD's totally rock as well. (I got lucky & snagged a used one for 1/3 the normal price) Not that you need one to play, but they minimizes getting stuck when it matters.

I would love to get a hardtop, but I can't really justify one for 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the car! haha. It also unfortunately has an open diff, but with my new snow tires, it has no problems, and still goes sideways quite well.

Unless I get a really-nice paying job sometime soon, the car will probably remain mostly stock, minus what's already done to it (full poly bushings, Mazdaspeed competition engine mounts, performance clutch, Flyin' Miata sways with RB endlinks, Falken Azenis summer tires, and an early Enthuza stainless-steel exhaust). Maybe coilovers or good shocks, since the stocks are pretty blown, but not much more than that.

And the reason for that is, as much as I love my miata, I love my Volvos even more. It's kind of a strange thing to a lot of people, to love Volvos, but just the sheer amount of character that they have, and the quality of every little thing, it kinda pulls you in.

Basically, my miata is a fun daily driver, but my Volvo Amazon is where I'd like to direct my money towards. Besides, my miata is so good as is, I can't really envision it getting that much better for my uses, without putting a lot of money into it.

I make good decisions; my winter beater is a ragtop and I live in Minnesota.

yep, it has hail damage. nope, I don't care. It reliably goes sideways, handles like a go-kart, sounds good, and gets 30mpg. ladies don't seem to mind it either.

my first car; 1983 lolvo 244 Turbo. Unbreakable tank of a car, took an incredible amount of abuse. lots of character. lots of burnouts. lots of huge boost spikes. and lots of sideways rally action too. I own another, much cleaner one and will be building it up this next spring.

And finally, my summer daily driver, and probably my favorite. My '68 Volvo Amazon.

It will be lowered next summer, after I get it out of winter storage and get all the minor bodywork and maintenance finished. Here's a photochop of the height I'd like to be at (only photoshop change was the ride height):

Quote from Jakg :PC specs.

I got bored and re-did my whole water-cooling system, I combined my existing Reserator 1 + Fan Kit with a Reserator 1 Plus I had "lying around", to make a dual Rad/Pump/Res single loop. Helps performance a bit and looks 1337!

Cable management looks bad, but it's not - the wires are at the side so theres a "tunnel" of air going through.

I'm missing 1 GB of RAM because it died, and my second GFX card (the 6600GT) keeps overheating, but meh.

For reference...

Water goes from the Black Reserator, through my PC to the CPU block, then back out to the Blue Reserator, then through to the Black one, then to my PC again...

EDIT - I was so bored I actually took all the tubing out, swapped the CPU block for an identical one without a tiny scratch on the bottom and re-seated the heatsink on the GPU using a small amount of AS5...

wow, just read your rig specs, that's awesome! how many FPS do you run?

ok, my rig for now(hopefully to be upgraded soon and will use my macbook once it's got bootcamp on it): piece 'o crap 5 year old compaq laptop with like a 32mb integrated graphics card that won't run even multiplayer

i'd love to see a bigger autoX layout, an airport, and what i also think would be cool would be something like the bonneville salt flats to test top speed on

Quote from MAGGOT :Can't you see how blurry those skins are? Can't you see how unrealistically over-saturated the Paint colour palette is? A skin made in paint may be "easier" to make (easier if its just blocks of colour with logos slopped on top, not realy design and graphics) but it will never compare to a properly made skin in a proper graphics application.

You need to use a proper program to get proper results. You need to be able to create proper graphics and use a full colour palette to get proper, and realistic, colours. Furthermore, you need to use a proper program to get logos that are not blurry and pixelated.

If you can't see those things that are wrong with skins made in Paint, than you are either blind or.. well.. I guess just blind. There's a hell of a lot more to Photoshop skins than a black mask. (BTW, the mask is useful for three reasons. The least important of which is that it tidies up your skinfile, making it look more professional. Secondly, it gives you a rough estimate of the boundaries of skinnable areas for quick reference of location of panels. Thirdly, it reduces the filesize of the finished jpg. That can mean the difference between a level 8 jpg compression and a level 12 for some skins, which makes a huge, huge difference in the quality.)

I suggest you learn how to use Paint.NET, the Gimp, or some other free app, If you seriously want to make good skins.

For the record, Photoshop is not complex. At all. It can just do a lot, and when you first open it it may be overwhelming, like all good programs. Solidworks, 3DSMax, etc etc. They're all easy to use, you just need to learn them.

[EDIT]

I've never seen one good skin made in Paint. Ever.

nicely said man. and i think it's ok if people want to fool around and make skins in paint, but to post the up and say they're good, and that paint is just as good as photoshop, that's not so good.

Quote from FunteX :Well you all keep refering to the InitialD show in connection with this package,
first of i am a great fan of the show though.
But that have nothing to do with my love for this car wich streches back to way before the very first intial d manga was even released,
or for that matter before Tsuchiya was recognized.
Sure i am a big fan of him but that was also before he became popular and alot of wannabe fanboys entered the arena.

Second, "Tomi" the 86 a designflaw? haha
not at all, actualy quite the oposite actualy my kiddiebreathed friend,
it is quite the masterpeice both mecanicaly and also regarding its design.

So please go dispatch ya childish opinions some other place okay my little frend.

nicely said, the hachi really is a legend.

oh, and nice skins! i haven't had time to try your stuff out yet (lfs isn't on my mac yet) but they look great!

well heres an idea: i thought it would be really cool if the was alayout of each track where you can drive anywhere on the track(no barriers or pylons blocking another road). i think this would be especially cool for cruise servers and south city. so theres my 2 cents. Scawen, you listening? hahaha jk

Quote from =Wolf=[NO] :I would also like "mudless" tyres(jupp, I'm a drifter:razz.

I use normals/supers myself, but some of my mates use hybrids(on tarmac track, not even close to dirt)

So it bothers me that the tyres are dirty, when we drift on tarmac

LOL i actually drift on knobblys LOL

how about bonneville salt flats, and some twisting mountain roads. Also, how about a REALLY tight and tricky track, and some good preset autoX's. theres not much autoX going around, but i know there are some people into it( includieng me). Heres an idea: Have a city/town track thing(like nfsu2 but more like a smaller town with country roads and highways and stuff like that(and dont get me wrong, i dont like nfs either, but i love having open roads to cruise on, and it would b cool to have sumthin like TDU but with realistic physics and real car guys, not just kids). It could get bigger with every update, and there would be rain, snow and all that fun stuff, according to the season and time. Tell me if yu think that would b cool, ive always wanted sumthin like that.
