Quote from shurcooL :That's a valid and good point. But I think there's [much] more to it than that.

For example:
-camera shaking
-motion blur on wheels
-driver head bobbing/movement based on G-forces [already in LFS]
-wind/sound increasing as a function of speed [already in LFS I guess]

Are some techniques that can be used to increase your perception of speed. I've spent $0 and a few minutes coming up with them. Imagine what would happen if you put in some more resources into the subject, you could get some interesting results. I just find it an interesting (and very important) field, that's all.

Of course, most of those things I mentioned (camera shaking and wheel motion blur) are mostly useful for out-of-car views, not in-driver-seat view. In other words, it's not for racing. So that only makes the problem tougher.

sounds like rFactor to me...

the problem with 3rd party mods is that you loos consistency within the game. We are all well accustomed to what LFS looks and "feels" like, and if someone just converted over some random rFactor track(s) (which is most likely what would happen) then all of the sudden it's not LFS anymore. It rFactor for Speed.. and who wants that? not me at least... Even in some of the best rFactor tracks there are still inconsistancies accross the board in terms of realism, graphics, overall feel, things like that. So you still end up with the 10 or so tracks that everyone plays and in that sense, we're back to square one.. So in short, no... no mods of any sort. The Devs have done an awesome job evolving the game into what it is today without ever loosing the "feel" of the experiance that is LFS.

"If you give a release date and dont release said product on that day, people will be upset. If you dont give a release date and surprise them, they will be happy"

- John Tag
Express Motorsports

This quote came from a discussion about a new motor that is being released for RC racing (Trinity Pulse) that had to be postponed due to a few small issues that needed to be sorted out before the official release. It's basically the same thing that we are experiencing now. Those who are looking forward to the release are being patient and looking on the bright side. Those who just want something new are finding something to complain about...

Limited setup option racing is WELL worth the postponement if you ask me! After watching the TDI Cup all season long, I fell in love with the idea and cant wait to try my hand at it.

I like the idea of having a "built in" league manager of some sorts that is based on the same principles as STCC. However, If I remember correctly, didn't S1 have a simaller points system in which you had to earn points to dive certain cars? I personally love going into the STCC servers. They are the only servers I go into. Maily this is because I am reltivly new to racing and can find others of the same skill level as me. At the moment, I have my silver license, yet I am not good enough to compete in the silver race servers. So I stay in the Bronze servers just for the fun of it. XFG tends to produce some great battles.

but getting to the point. I do not feel that it should be nessisary, however it would be nice to see it as an option in the future. Not so much to keep the "noobs" out, but more of a "training" of sorts. I know it has helped me out alot.

Quick Japanese lesson for ya... Dori is short for Dorifuto (meaning Drift or drifting) so... it is, in fact, a total blaitent copy of the team. also, the tag you are using is Dori.K... seems an awful lot like Dori.S dont you think? Oh... and annother thing... dont think I forgot about that Drif X skin you (or whoever) made that is an old s1 skin from annother team (Drift Mischief) that you or whoever converted to s2 and proceded to paste your Drift X decal onto. but thats ok, I need not to point out your shameless ways... you did it for me.

If you ask me, I think that the player should be required to go through the training course in order to compete online. This raises the need for better and more predictable AI to race with. just my 2 yen...

I myself race and drift. Most of the times however, I drift. Seeing as I never learned to race and concentrated on being good at drifting, I never thought much about driving techniques. Although, I now find that many of the techniques are transferable. Much of what I learned through drifting in means of weight transfer, heel and toe, trail braking, and so on are used every lap of a race. So in my opinion, in terms of car control, drifting and racing are not so entirely different. The fact that many racers can also drift is proof enough of this.

Drifting was dirrived from rally racing in an effort to go faster in the mountain passes, however, it soon developed into more of a way to show off your car control. This aspect has been lost in LFS if you ask me. Many new people coming into the drifting scene are very young and have no concept of technique. This gives the older and more serious drivers such as myself and others a bad reputation.

Not all drifters are bad, but a majority of them have attitude problems that need to be adressed. But this is the Internet, so a 10 year old can act like a 30 year old and no one can say anything to make him stop. This is a major problem that is slowly distancing me from drifting in LFS. But this is also an issue in racing no doubt, but it just doesn't seem to be as prominent. I feel this is the biggest deterrent for anyone who looks upon drifting as any sort of a serious endeavor. They are quickly discouraged by these immature few that taint the sport. And to try and compare modern drifting to anything in the past is rediculous.

F1 drivers used these techniques to negotiate rough courses with ill handling race cars and under developed tires. Due to the changes in technology, drifting has become merely another way to show off. Not a form of racing, or way of becoming a faster driver. But in the end, its all a matter of opinion.

No one is right or wrong. Drifting or Racing, its all based on individual preference. To say one is better than the other is not possible. You cannot create a general consensus from only one opinion. This is a decision you have to make for yourself. I trust that you will all look at both sides of the story and find which one suits you better.

I predict alot of wide open drifts from our dear little XRT. I personally hope the new physics change the driving model completely. perhaps making it a bit harder to drift the car. also, I see lime times decreasing. I for one cant wait. S2S here I come!

Quote from Frankmd :Here's my contribution Might need some additional work though.

if it were my skin, id try to carry some of the blue from the front to the rear. I mean there is some there, but I guess what im saying is try to make the rear match the style of the front. if that makes any sence. awsome work tho.

Quote from Greboth :drive the BF1 on bl1 and spin it at every corner lol

well put, as i will be doing the same. and ill be giving my XRT some hell with the new tire physics as well. this should make for some very interesting new setups... o yeah, and laugh at all the people trying to drift on new tires that spin and get pissed and quit all together... ahhh the world will be a much better place
