The problem with this type of error is that it could be a number of things that is causing the system to halt. At the end of the day, if the PC is rebuilt (software) then this will eliminate the possibility of there being some form of corruption within the operating system. However this in turn then opens up the possibility that there may some form of conflict between operating system and the harware within the system, that it why it is essential to update all drivers and if possible the firmware within your PC, primarily the system BIOS. I believe that you need to eliminate one thing at a time and ultimately if you want LFS to run smoothly without interuption and it is your main priority to have this game working properly you may be looking at replacing your mainboard for one that has a common chipset if that be the case. As i am a computer engineer, I could sit here and write all day about what the possible cause of the error could be but i'm off home, finished work at 6! Good luck...
Fair enough i hadn't realised that his gfx card was only 64Mb however i have a lower spec machine than you and i get an average frame rate of over 70 so you obviously don't know how to optimize a PC, stai zitto
A rebuild in your case is probably the easiest and best idea if all else fails, ensure you use all the latest drivers and don't install software and other devices that you don't really need!
If you are not sure about what you have extracted, create a new directory anywhere, extract the contents of the original zip to this new directory, copy the newly extracted contents of the new directory to your LFS directory overwriting the original files...
If you are a paranoid create a backup of your LFS system directory before overwriting the original files...
Ensure your LFS shortcut on your desktop is pointing towards the LFS.exe file that you have overwritten (incase you have multiple installations)
I'm please you solved your problem matey, but if i were you i'd try to get the hang of it with the rumble pad, you may end up by making some awesome world records!
I would certainly advise you to turn off your onboard sound within the system BIOS and then try to run the game without sound. If the game becomes stable you know what your problem is and all you have to do is buy a sound card. Onboard sound cards are famous for causing this type of crash, no pun intended
Ensure all your drivers are upto date...
P.S. It is possible that you won't be able to start LFS without a sound device present in your system, if this happens i think you should get a nice Creative soundcard anyway irrespective of whether it resolves your issue, i think it's a shame that you are running ac97 onboard sound with the other quality hardware that you have as that in itself will munch your system resources
Turn as many of your graphics settings down or to off, and also make sure you install the latest drivers for your graphics card, this can make a considerable difference... i would be suprised if you can't get an average frame rate of around 50 with your hardware...
Lots of good ideas etc. etc. but at the end of the day if you have paid for an S1 license you should only race on S1 servers. It's like saying "oh well, let the people who haven't paid join in for free because LFS is a community!"
I agree in principle that perhaps S1 racers should be able to see S2 servers that are running S1 tracks with S1 cars but it's not the way it is, those are still S2 servers for S2 licensed racers. It's only £12 and the developers derserve every penny from the upgrade, why the hell would the developers want to spend many more hours integrating the two versions for nothing, i think they would rather spend their time working on bug fixes or maybe looking into the world of S3!
S2 is only a £12 upgrade... the game/sim is well worth it!
