Racing-Underground seems to be down, does anyone know why?

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I'll probably suggest he goes with Telcom Italia/ 7 Mega. As I said, he speaks very little Italian anyway, so I will probably end up being his technical support line! As long as they're generally reliable, he should be ok I think.
Broadband in Italy

Attention Italian racers! I have a English friend who is currently living in Italy and wants to get hooked up to the internet. He doesn't yet speak Italian that well and doesn't know that much about computers either so I am trying to help him find a suitable ISP. I see that Tiscali offer 8 Mega ADSL for €19.95 per month which seems okay, but cannot see what the minimum contract is, if any download limits apply and also if bittorrent etc is throttled in any way.

Can anyone help or suggest any cheaper alternatives?

Ok, thanks for the replies. My previous graphics card was a matrox g400 (anybody remember those? ) and this didn't have HVS, so I just wanted to make sure my new card had it.

The new card shows only the z-buffer depth - should there be any other options, eg AA and AF? The simple track option seems to have disappeared as well.
Hardware Vertex Shading

I have just installed a Geforce 6600 graphics card and subsequently created a new LFS installation. However, when running patch W the graphic options page shows that Hardware Vertex Shading can be turned on or off, but when running patches X & Y, the option seems to have been removed. Does anybody know why this is?

Are you absolutely sure its not temperatures? I recently had a very similar problem which I eventually found was due to my CPU overheating.

Find out on the net what the max safe temperature should be for your CPU, then install a free app called motherboard monitor. This can be set up to alert you (by beeping) if the CPU should ever reach the aforementioned max temperature.

Like you also, I was going to buy new components to solve the problem, but after googling the issue of overheating CPU's, I discovered that one of the first steps to do is to clean all of your fans. This for me solved the problem.

Hope this helps

Hi P1lot

Yep, long time no drive unfortunately . Have a lot of good memories of racing (well, trying to keep up) with you and the others at Hoffmans server/ Boomerang Rapido (rip?). Hope to get back into LFS asap (momo permitting), but can see from your stats on lfs world you are quite a bit quicker than me...

Thanks for your help, will try your suggestion later on and will report back

Cheers

Anybody have any ideas what is causing this? I hate to be impatient but I was planning on playing LFS this bank holiday weekend and was hoping it was something that easily be fixed...
Momo Force keeps losing FF/ freezing

Hi

My red momo has been inactive the past couple of years or so as I've had other commitments which prevented me from gaming. A couple of weeks ago, I installed patch S over my old S2 installation and for the first week or so had no probs whatsoever. However, recently I am finding that after 3-5 laps of use, the wheel loses FF and occasionally also freezes as well (i.e. wheel stays stuck on the screen in one position). When the wheel loses FF, I can sometimes regain it by briefly lifting off the accellerator pedal, but this doesn't always work - I often have to return to the pits in order to get FF back. The problem exists both on-line and off-line .

I don't use the wingman profiller, but have tried uninstalling the existing wingman software and reinstalling v4.6, and also tried a clean install of the lastest LFS (version T) - all to no effect. Anybody know why my momo keeps doing this?
