yeah, so i'm not gonna buy that one. things i saw that rang alarm bells: :jawdrop:

1) all the tryes were different makes n types
2) 1 tyre was bald to the canvass
3) loads of marks on bodywork and stone chips, far more than i expected
4) aerial doesn't retract properly
5) bins onside pretty much all knackered and loose
6) water in bottom of boot around spare wheel
7) clutch had ultra low bite point (is that common?)
8) couldn't hear turbo spin up despite having my ear next to it
9) oil level covered the nipple at bottom of dipstick AND THAT WAS IT!
10) lubricant coming out the botton at 1 drip every 30secs
11) no spare tyre on rim in boot
12) interior lights wouldn't turn off when on door opening mode
13) no surge of power in gear except for 1st
14) just water in the coolant reservoir, not even any antifreeze
15) other fluid levels low
16) excessive movement of engine on the mounts when revving
17) no service history, paperwork or receipts of any kind
18) MOT certificate didn't have mileage on it (whoever wrote it is a tit)
19) loads of wear on half leathre seats
20) "open door" and "SRS" lights permenantly on
21) didn't know when cambelt etc had been done

that said, the lady selling it was incredibly friendly and apparently the lack of paperwork was due to her bro being a mechanic and having a small dealership. but, if you were a mechanic/dealer, wouldn't you make sure that your car had reams of paperwork? illepall

i said i'd give her £600. she's going off to get the oil leak and lack of oil, lights etc checked out and then get back to me, but i reckon i'm gonna pass. seems like a bit of a dog to me. reckon i'm doing the right thing?

shame tho, drove well, just lacked that Ti kick on the throttle. thanks again for the help folks!

Quote from danowat :And no, according to my guy here the Ti was only ever made with the 200hp engine.

cheers dan, i thought he was wrong as i found that the 1995/6 ones had 200ps and the one i'm looking at his an early 1997.

anyone else wanna refute this?

yeah danowat, i'm aware of the problems with them and the horrific fuel consumption. however, i'm hunting one with a full rover service history, pref a recon/replaced gearbox, belts etc, working electrics and so on.

and given i drive like a grandparent, the fuel consumption shouldn't be a bother. well, not too bad anyway

i wasn't aware of 2 different engines, and TBH i won't be surprised to find out i've been mis-informed, so please keep the info coming. this is why i thought i'd ask the biggest collection of car nuts i know!
excellent!

Rover 620 Ti

hoping someone may be able to help me here. i'm looking at buying a rover 620 Ti & I have a friend who told me that there are 2 engine types, a 180bhp and a 197bhp, distinguishable by either "turbo" (180bhp) or "injection" (197bhp) on the intake manifold.

now i've done a lot of looking and cannot back this up, as everywhere, regardless of whether it is pre or post facelift, states the engine has 197bhp.

is there anyone out there that can help me with this? i have found one that is going for cheap but, being power hungry, i want 197bhp! all help most appreciated, thought this was a good place to ask as everyone here is fast car mad!

Quote from sidepants :yeah, but smoking is cool, makes you look hard and the girls love it!

hmm, sarcasm doesn't work on boards....

i smoke. def not proud of it. in fact, one of my proudest moments was gently persuading a kid i worked with who just took up smoking to quit!

if anyone is thinking smoking is good, go look at this and tell me that smoking is a good idea

Was reading the RTOC forum and spotted this on the boards. I read it, was blown away, then decided I should share it with more people.

Read the first post of the forum, then go to page 3 and read Civic96's bump about half way down.

Quote from ayrton senna 87 :sidepants - i wanted to drive at brummie wheels a few years ago but couldnt because i had to be a member or something... i have an MSA National A licence so im not dangerously out of control. can i have an arrive and drive with u and mantis sometime?!?! its right near the trainstation yea?

that would be fantastic man!

the trouble is that the arrive n drive is done on a separate circuit which is rubbish using heavily restricted karts with no timing system. it's a total waste of money and i disagree with it's existance totally.

however we can get on the main circuit on a test session, kinda like a&d but more fun, will atttempt to get better price from the boss if we do it

The membership is a cunning VAT n tax thing, but all it is is being given a card when you sign on, therefore joining the club. a few years ago they ran full MSA events, however the cost of insuance and meeting the MSA regulations meant that it was no longer financially viable to run them there. I'm pushing to get the MSA stuff back, but no-one listens to me

lmao

Quote from ayrton senna 87 : hey if we go to whilton ill be batting round in my 100 Nat, Scawen is first on the list for a go (for research purposes) any maybe u can go sidepants. (i have no idea on your size/height so i cant gaurantee u would fit in my seat!)

i'll hold you to that!

either way, i just wanna race you guys for real. mantis9 has been telling me all about it n how much fun it was, so get organisin.

or if you like i can organise one at G.P Karting for you all (assuming the karts are fast enough for you )

Quote from ayrton senna 87 :seriously, u WOULD notice the difference between a 2 stroke and a hire kart

hell yeah i know there's a difference! i am not denying that. my only objection was that it seemed like a dead patronising thing to say about the speed. i'm not a fool...

tell you guys what, next time the radar speed gun is on site and i'm in work, i'll get some accurate speeds for you. i know it's not 70mph, but 50mph is a little slow for these karts tristan. somewhere inbetween i would say.

Quote from ayrton senna 87 : sidepants have u been to many other kart circuits? (MSA ones?)

not through lack of trying man, but i have neither the spare money or time to do it. i love karting and should i have the cash i'd spend it all racing. (only reason i didn't come to the karting event is no money n had to be in work watchin others race karts) however if anyone wants to give me a go please feel free! fully intend to get myself a Superkart when funds are sufficent and enter the 250cc Division 2. one day....

i reckon that it's just a ruse not to come to G.P. karting cos you guys know you couldn't beat mantis9 and I hehehehehe

Quote from keiran :Hate to break it to you but pro karts dont do 70mph especially hire ones they weigh a tonne.

Keiran

why would you need to put that? I know it isn't 70mph at all, but unless you've driven rapid karts before, you're not gonna notice the difference

i know how fast they go, i'm a race director at the track. it's an approximation, to make it more exciting for those who aren't lucky enough to have raced proper pro-karts. there isn't a karting centre in the UK that is actually honest about their karts top speed.

and they're far better than those rubbish indoor ones.

besides, if it is speed that you are after, why not go do some Superkarting at Lydd International?

Quote from ayrton senna 87 :looks great, good price too, but the fact u can only have 12 teams makes it a little difficult. definately on the shortlist tho. i thought it was more expensive tbh

The cost at Grand Prix Karting Birmingham is basically £49 per person per half hour in the twin engine karts. The maximum on track at any one time is 12 karts, therefore in a 2 hr endurance race you have 4 per team so 48 drivers can be accomodated.

The 2 hr endurance race cost is fixed, so for a little more you can run smaller team numbers or for less money (and sadly therefore track time) run larger teams. And they're twin engine karts ~70mph.

Quote from ayrton senna 87 :EDIT - Just seen the MSA track on the gallery, looks a little corprate'ish with the tyres on the sides. shame, it looked alright

I thought the point of the tyres is to protect you from major injury.

The track presents a sufficient challenge for most drivers, it hosted the Search for Grand Prix Driver tests and having been there before, I think it's a good drive.
