The reason why there aren't frequent updates is because it's 2-man team that develops the game (Scawen and Eric), It takes longer time to make new updates.
5Laps.com is the site you're referring to. Kind of shame it got shut down, it was pretty popular IIRC. That website and its league system introduced many players (me included) into the world of LFS.

Player manages to jumpstart without any penalties
So this happened to me today while I was racing on a demo server. Eduardo579 got a considerable gap by jump starting. He didn't get pitted from it nor he got any penalties from it. I attached a screenshot and a replay in case they're needed.

Hey, you idiots who DDOS LFS servers down, stop it right now. The LFS community doesn't care about your motives, they only want to enjoy the game. But you're making that impossible with continuing DDOS attacks. Stop it and let us play the game we love.
You probably don't even understand how much this hurts the devs, they've been working hard on developing new updates to the game, but now they can't because they're too busy dealing with your attacks.

There was a DDOS attack against LFS servers yesterday. Not sure about today's issues. LFS twitter confirmed there was another DDOS attack today.
