Regarding no 3, optimum shift point, a suggestion:

For the GT class cars that have a shift light there probably is an OutGauge variable.

In any case, if you can read the gear ratios, then the optimum shift point (also as calculated by VHPA) is the point when the torque at the wheels in the next gear is higher or at least equal to the current torque at the wheels.

Now this can get a bit more complicated if you take into account the fact that the gear change is not instantaneous and even more complex with turbo cars as the turbocharger will spool down but this might be too much already.

Hey guys,

Time has (finally) allowed me to get back, and I have two tasty bugs to report. As these bugs are specific to the Ro translation, I figured this is the correct place.

- track selection screen, layout selector. There are two buttons, a "delete" which removes the layout file from the hdd, and a "clear" button which results in loading the default track (i.e. no layout selected). Both are currently translated to the same word "sterge"...
This can be fixed on our side, may I suggest using "sterge" and "nimic" or anyway, something that differentiates between those.

- replays contain the (translation of the) word "winner", which results in the files being named playername_trackname_carname_^ECAŞTIGĂTOR_count.spr (disregard the space in the file extension, not sure why this is displayed in the post, in the edit box I have no space between p and r...)

In game, the filename is displayed as: playername_trackname_carname_CASTIGATOR_count and of course we get an error "cannot open the file".

After the filename is changed to simple characters, it can be then loaded properly. I don't think there's a specific variable name for the replay "winner", so an option is to change the translation to "primul" (meaning the 1st) but I guess this might be the case for other languages too.

That looks very nice!

I can't really tell the dimensions of the car, is it possible that in "Racing line screenshot 6 (off track)" the vehicle would still have two wheels on the track? To me it looks like that and I think it would be a valid path.

From the looks of it, your path looks faster than the file one (gray), and I'd have to point out that a.i. is supposed to be fun so maybe it was intentionally made not to ride the curbs that hard, so the humans would stand a chance. Just a guess.
I would expect the stored path to be geometrically(?) optimal, and each a.i. difficulty would have some tolerance in keeping close to it.

I know this isn't your aim (hotlapping ai), but I still want to ask the question: can you run a couple of tests using the default path vs your path and see what the lap time difference is?

Since learning about it, I have been planning on writing a SLAM approach for the a.i. to learn the track, and a big problem was getting the reference points. You're going for a different approach and it is very interesting.

If you want to use the checkpoints from the track (I mean the places where you get the split times) then using their position should help a lot in figuring out when one lap has been completed.

Is the "some distance" you travel fixed all over the track? Because we usually pay more attention during the corners and/or at low speed, so we get more reference points than at high speed.

What I was thinking of when writing that part is the situation of going side by side in a turn with the a.i. and mainly I was thinking about the predictability of the a.i.'s racing line (if this makes sense).

Usually this results in some paint exchange, mainly because he's following the racing line and is very predictable, while a human might see me, get nervous and leave very much space, or not see me at all and crash into me harder than the a.i. does.

Except for people I've raced before and know, I'm more relaxed going side by side in a turn with a car in singleplayer than in multiplayer, so I consider this usefull when learning to drive the whole track.

I was not explicit; what I had in mind was rather pointing out the fact that in my opinion the a.i. is good at the very beginning for following around and getting the hang of a track, getting some idea of the speeds needed to negotiate the corners and seeing the racing line in a somewhat real situation.

This is because the "painted" racing line is not dynamic with regards to the player speed, while a car in front seems to be more helpfull.

Don't forget about the a.i. cars. In my opinion they are very good as a tutor as their lines and times are quite consistent, they (later edit: somewhat) avoid crashing into you, they recover very well from you crashing into them and most of all they don't hold grudges.

daca nu, pun sugestia mea, si apoi click dreapta si add comment pentru a explica sugestia. eventual o fac si portocalie ca sa atrag atentia.

astfel raman probabil doar cateva pentru care va trebui sa ne intalnim sa discutam de ce e mai bine intr-un fel sau altul.

This isn't about stealing any work, this is about having a romanian translation. Most of it is already done, there are 138 lines that are not translated. Let's add another 100 that might need to be translated again.
So the hardest part is more or less done.

What we need now is an editor - the person who can use the online editor, and at least one tester, because when looking at the in game text one might realise that simply translating from english to romanian isn't as good as finding text with a better meaning ( see "SHIFT + F4 toggles between full screen and window" and "SHIFT + F%d is already assigned to selected mode" for an example).

Instead of going through another round of discussion regarding optimal translations, it might be better to have a complete translation first and then work on that. This way even though it may not be perfect, it would be at least complete and available to the public.

Either way, with the use of testers , improvements can be suggested and the text can be updated where necessary.
For this purpose I've created a google docs sheet with an example and gave luchian and pigmeu access to it.

It is difficult to paste each varname in a spreadsheet, it would take a very long time. Instead of each of us translating everything again, let's take a look at http://www.lfs.net/lfs_transla ... _viewer.php?lang=Romanian and only add to the sheet the improvement suggestions we have.

Hi,

I'm writing in English this time because I want to ask Scawen a qustion: does the public translations viewer allow more users, or does it only allow one translator per language?

After reading the Bulgarian topic it looks as if there can be more translators on the same language, but I thought I should ask.

If only one person can use the editor, maybe a simple method would be the use of an .ods file (excel or open office) to manage suggestions.
Also going slowly, chapter by chapter, and discussing translations in the forum could also work quite nice, and hopefully it will not be an issue to use the forum...
Anyway, I can help with probably any method, if needed.

One more thing I want to point out, I've noticed some words start with uppercase, some don't, so it would be a good idea to use the same rule everywhere.

Glad to see this finally happening!

A long time ago ... I've translated to Romanian by directly editing the language files but never got the time to complete all the translations and i haven't uploaded it anywhere.

@dajmin - this track type races would be better suited for time trial events, just like rallying.

@BMB - as long as no other even comes close regarding the physics, i wouldn't worry about it

@BenjiMC - i didn't find any such option. i feel we're talking about the same color which seems green to me and yellow to you

@blackbird04217 - i understand what you're talking about, and i must say that in my specific case disconnecting or connecting while i was paying attention to the start lights did not 'trigger' my response. it's just that the lag text appeared exactly where the green lights are (i can provide a mpr if you're curious )

indeed a blinking car might not do the trick well enough.

if the lagging car stays there without any text above, how would you distinguish between that and a 'normal' car that is just sitting there?

if it were looking like 'ghosts' look in time trial events in some games (semitransparent and with a white glow), i think that would do.

and yes, driving it is fabulous

the problem is that during the week-end you might get "some" traffic.

having such tracks would be a welcome addition to lfs.

besides that, it is a road that is indeed worth seeing and driving on. it is only open during the summer.

Hi,

i've searched for this issue and it seems nobody else was bothered by this before so i'd like to point it out.

First, i'd like to point out that i use the 'real' gauges, mirrors, and nothing 'virtual' except for the minimap and the position and lap counter.

At the beginning of a league race tonight, i had the car in 1st gear, clutch pedal floored, gas high enoguh, and ...

i was really concentrating on the start lights, and the car in front of me had a bit of lag... enough for the green (LAG counter) text to appear above his car, just in the line of sight towards the lights i was very concentrated on...

I reacted (quite fast i may say ) and got rewarded with a nice drive-through, as the race started a few seconds later.

My point is that i would like to have an option to not have text appear over the lagging cars.

Maybe the whole car could blink red
At least an option to change the colour of the text would do, because green was the colour i was expecting, and i reacted to the colour, not to the fact that it was text there.

And no, i do not like the virtual lights. That's why i have them turned off.

Hi,
i might have an improvement suggestion which wasn't...suggested yet, but first i'd like to hear a few more opinions on whether i am or not right.

After some reading, this thread is as close as it can get, so please excuse me for going somewhat offtopic.

Here goes: in a race tonight during the pit it so happened that only rear right tire got changed, as it was the only one over 80%, as i was 'requesting'.
The other tires were at 79% though. What happened next was different from what i expected.

Not taking into account temperature, should the car have been 'pulling' towards the newest tire simply due to the difference in left to right tires' weight (and also in diameter, but i think that is negligible) ?

it seems to be a really slow abs, or better yet one of the first versions of the abs system as it only works on all four wheels at once.

just in case, i think you should know people cannot subscribe to being informed about future events.

i think that incidents that are not reported simply 'go by' because due to massive amount of work and time and concentration required, only reported incidents are reviewed.

maybe a referee training course and the recruitment of a few people would ease the workload on each of the appeal arbiters.

the ideal result would be having several people that would watch the replays for non-reported incidents also and apply corrections based on the decision resulting out of the majority of their votes.

this means a lot of time invested in this.

Um, yes, i never tried installing it while plugged in, i always hope it will work when i power up the pc and then disconnect it and re-install the stuff.
I've installed the drivers and softwer by following the recommended procedure on a three or four days fresh install of windows (new pc, g25 arrived later than the other parts).
I'll try it and see what will happen. Thank you.
G25 profiler does not detect wheel after reboot

Hello guys, i've searched the forums but it seems i am the only one having this problem. This happened from the very first time i installed the g25...The wheel works very nice although i've got the 'usual' problems with the shifter sticking in 'lower' when in sequential and also hitting reverse instead of 6th because i'm used to rest my hand on the shifter, but that's not the issue here. Each time i reboot the logitech profiler states it cannot find any devices, and i should plug it in a power supply. I have to reinstall the profiler each time i reboot the computer. And yes, that's VERY annoying. If any of you knows how to help me on this one i'd really appreciate it. apo p.s.: computer specs are irrelevant i think, but what i should mention is OS: Windows XP Professional SP2.
