Spent the whole day on Sunday ('till 3am) trying to learn the tracks in the LX6. I can hardly keep the thing on the track, but it's a hoot! Great tool for learning the tracks though, doesn't 'arf remind you to keep things smooth!
PC Hardware is here, had a little (18 hour) session to try and get my self used to the game... got distracted and spent most of it in an LX6, spending the first 10 hours going backwards into the barriers. God it was fun!
I quick scout around the house reveals enough PC power & bandwidth for 2 possibly 3 dedicated servers - so expect to see servers wearing the GothamProjects tags soon! (One may be LX only, I had so much fun!).
I have no idea how to administer one, so some documentation hunting might be in order too
In real life the super 7 type cars don't generate a lot of downforce and in high speed breaking the back end gets very light and wandery. I've seen a few of the SEiGHT drivers with rear diffusers fitted as they're hitting 150+mph which is a terrifying prospect in a 7! Part of the "joy" of the LX type cars is their scittish handling.
Well LFS is a simulation more than a game I'd say. There's no way I'd take to a 'fast' track session without having practiced first in real life, and I'd expect some of that to be reflected in the online experience. As a complete beginner I wouldn't want to hold up or ruin a race with my irratic, crossed up, early braking nonsense!
But on the other side, there's nothing better for learning than having your back-side spanked all over the circuit by the pros!
Well as soon as that damn PC hardware gets here I'll be heading straight for the LX4 as I drive one in the real world too. Hopefully I'll be quicker in the game than I am in real life
I'll be very interested to see how it 'feels' in the game compared the addicive mix of exhileration and sheer terror from life on bumpy, potholed, slippy roads . I was very impressed with how the demo at MPH handled while I was getting it all wrong in the tight bends - to cross a thread: anyone know what car was setup for that?
I love my macs though, but Apple don't exploit the graphics hardware very well I've found. Still, I'm a boffin, so I can never have too many computers!
Ooh, now that's cool. I'll be using a 96in hi-def projected screen to start off with coz that's all I've got - which will be terrible for realism, but it is cool for films
Unless I curve the screen around me with a funky lense or something lol.
Had a go in the seat (which was tight fit! Must get down the gym :schwitz at MPH and it was fantastic! I would have liked a harder break pedal and gear paddles in a fixed position, but I'm sure the nice Cyberseat people can tweak those kind of things.
It was also my first go on LFS - and what a way to experience it!
Needless to say, here I am, first working day after the experience and I've already bought by S2 licence ... I don't even own a PC yet to play it on
The seat is an excelent promotional tool, although i was too nervous of embarrasment to ask the chap to turn the clutch on :-)
Now I'm gonna be waiting with baited breath for parcel force bringing my PC!

I've uploaded the pics I grabbed while I was of the nice metal - didn't get any of the "stratos" after actually looking at it. Not the best treatment really. Was nice to prod the Invicta and have a look of the Gardner Douglas TD470. Link (hopefully).
