Well, if I can help in any way, let me know. If I knew what code to look at maybe I could do it myself.

Thanks, I'd be willing to give it a try

I compiled the code from the post you linked, and the brake is being reported on the throttle axis, with a range of 0..255, and the throttle is showing in the "combined" axis, with the same range. Does that tell you what you need to know?

I take it MOMO2 = Momo Racing?

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I came across this thread in a very backwards kind of way, I've been waiting for forcefeedback to work in Wine+LFS for a long time and just discovered it's working now for me -- I can finally format my Windows partition!

Only problem I have is that with my Momo Racing, I have combined pedals. Some searching online lead me to LTWheelConf, and then I found this thread, which I was a little surprised to see is on the LFS forum!

Anyway, I've compiled LTWheelConf but it seems the Racing has no native/fallback modes:

[masonj@archie64 TripleSpeeder-LTWheelConf-665e227]$ ./ltwheelconf --wheel MR --nativemode
Momo Racing is always in native mode.
[masonj@archie64 TripleSpeeder-LTWheelConf-665e227]$

... so how do I enable separate axes? Am I missing something?

Kernel/Wine/lsusb info:

[masonj@archie64 ~]$ uname -r
2.6.39-ARCH
[masonj@archie64 ~]$ /usr/bin/wine --version
wine-1.3.25
[masonj@archie64 ~]$ lspci | grep -i logitech
[masonj@archie64 ~]$ lsusb | grep -i logitech
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 046d:ca03 Logitech, Inc. MOMO Racing
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 046d:c049 Logitech, Inc. G5 Laser Mouse
[masonj@archie64 ~]$

Thanks in advance (and sorry if this has already been answered but it wasn't obvious to me in the thread)

Ah, well I figured it was probably something lacking in Wine.. I guess I'll keep my Xp install around until it's fixed or Virtualbox's direct3d is usable...
LFS, Wine and force feedback

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have LFS working well through Wine with force feedback? For a long time I couldn't get force feedback to work at all in Linux, but now with Ubuntu 9.04 (or Linux Mint 7) it "sort of" works. When I start the game the wheel (Logitech Momo) lights up, but when I am inside the car, the wheel nudges to the left every second and just keeps doing that until it starts bumping off the stop at the hard left. I can drive the car but the nudging is a little distracting!

I have wine 1.1.28 and 2.6.28-11 kernel.

I found the demo 0.2N I think it was, sometime around... 2002? I think? I installed it, ran it, and knew right away I'd found something really special .. I guess that was 6 years ago now!

Agreed it's not that big a deal to cut and paste.. just one of those nice-to-have things. Even just to keep a different password for local vs internet hosts would be okay in my case, but I can't see the database of passwords being that big, if you think about how many different servers you connect to that require a password...
Save connection passwords per host

Could LFS save the connect password used for each online host so that if I try to connect to a password protected host that I've connected to before, it automatically has the right password?

If not, could LFS keep one password to use for internet-based hosts, and another for local servers?

I run my own server, with a password, but I connect to it via its local address. When I want to connect to a remote host (usually a league server with a cryptic password) I have to retype the password if I've connected to my server since the last race.

Okay, call me old-fashioned but I like the gauge-style analog needle speedo the best... I think it looks better than an 80's style digital readout. Although I don't usually look at the speedo much during a race, it does come in handy if I'm working on my set and I'm working on top speed, and for pit lane entry and exit.

Okay, well I may have been wrong about what's going on... After playing with it some more, the auto clutch seems to work fine on the H pattern cars; I can upshift and downshift at any time.

The auto clutch works on the sequential shift boxes as well, but I don't seem to be able to downshift if I'm using more than say 1/2 throttle.. Is this just typical of normal sequential shifters, that you have to take your foot off the gas to shift gears?

Oh, maybe this behavior is only with the cars that don't have the ignition cut feature -- the ones that do have it are unloading the trans when I shift and that's why they work?

I guess I'm learning a bit about racing transmissions as I go
Merc68k

Ah, but that's only for the sequential gearbox cars... my problem is with the cars that would have an H-pattern shifter in real life -- I have only paddles with my wheel and no easy way to activate the clutch to shift gears. Unless I could map the shifter paddles to also do the clutch pedal at the same time...
Sequential shift + auto clutch?

Hi Scawen, & all,

I don't know if this has been discussed to death or not, I didn't see any threads specifically asking this question, so sorry if it has been done to death... and feel free to move this to the proper thread if needed... but:

Could we please have the option of an auto clutch as before? The way the gearboxes behave right now in X30, especially cars like the MRT and the new BMW, is really awkward IMHO. I have a Logitech Momo wheel, and none of the buttons are really in reach to use as a clutch button, and I can't use my keyboard.. it's just not practical to reach over the wheel to hit a key to shift gears .

85% of the time I can get the gears to change if I get off the gas, and maybe I just need more practice... but at times it can really be awkward trying to get the next gear, where if I had a real pedal I would have changed up or down 2 gears in the time it took me to find one.

The cars with simulated sequential boxes seem to work fine as you'd expect, since no clutch is needed in real life, but for those of us without a 3rd pedal to press, it's a real drag. If you're going to remove the auto clutch, you might as well take out the auto transmission option altogether and force everyone to use a manual trans.. there's a point at which you have to sacrifice some realism to allow for the limitations of the controllers available, ie without a clutch. IMHO.

Other than that, I love the update -- the game seems to look a lot more realistic, although I can't place quite why... and it's nice to have some AI drivers to practice against again, not to mention everything else I haven't even found yet

Above all, thanks devs for the continual improvements.. I've been addicted to LFS since 0.2N came out (I think it was) and it continues to be the best sim out there as far as I am concerned!

Well I understand the argument that we don't necessarily want to hear anyone's random idea of a good engine sound -- maybe even an option to send your setting to another player like you can with the skins would be okay.

The sound files are (strangely) big, but to send the state of the sliders in the sound config menu would only require a few bytes -- that wouldn't have any impact on server connect time at all.
Merc68k

Very good point.. I hadn't thought about that. The same guys that drive around with the juicecan exhausts would be modding their LFS cars the same way

Maybe if it could be a server setting to allow or disallow custom sounds...
Multiplayer: Upload each car's sound settings to server

I didn't see this posted anywhere else -- it would be really cool IMHO if each individual person's car sound settings (e.g., Shift-A) were reflected in multiplayer games. So with a race full of FXO's, each one would sound a little different based on the "tuning" each person had done.

A pretty minor thing, with no impact on racing at all, admittedly, but it would add another level of customization to your own car
Disable screensaver while not in fullscreen
Merc68k

Would it be possible to have LFS disable the screensaver even when running in windowed mode, or have a switch to enable this behavior?

I often play in windowed mode so that I can see when I get MSN messages, but have to keep bumping the mouse every 5 minutes to keep the screensaver from coming on.

If LFS could disable the screensaver then that would solve the problem

Quote from scurrg :now that we have autocross marshalls that point left/right, we could have one of them standing there.

Yeah the marshall would work too, I haven't seen one in autocross yet, but it sounds good!

Ya thats the only time you can't tell, but with no other cars it's not so bad if you drive backwords for a moment

Yeah, I admit it's a pretty minor thing to just watch the map and see how the cars are moving.. I like the idea of an arrow painted on the pitwall though, that would be nice and unobtrusive
Direction indicator when leaving garage?
Merc68k
S2 licensed
Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't it be nice to have an indication of the direction of travel on the track when you're leaving the garage? I've seen lots of people (myself included) leave the garage only to have to turn around partway down the pitlane because they went the wrong way.

It's a little easier now with the triangle car icons on the map overlay, but it still takes a few seconds to figure out which way you're supposed to leave the pits.

IMHO just a blinking arrow overlaid onto the screen that goes away as soon as you roll out of the garage and into the pit lane would be perfect.

I solved the problem; it seems when you install the Wingman gaming software it doesn't update the actual driver in Windows -- I updated the driver using the one from the gaming software archive, and it works fine now right from the get-go!
Merc68k

Done all that, and it works fine until the next power on.

Tried that, but no luck. If I unplug the power while in LFS it makes no difference, I have to do it *before* starting.
Formula Force Pedals Acting Up
Merc68k
S2 licensed
Hi all, I've got an original Logitech Wingman Formula Force wheel and pedals, and since I've upgraded to Windows XP (finally I'm caught up with 2001), the pedals are broken in LFS unless I disconnect power to the wheel and reconnect it, before I start LFS.

If I don't do this, the brake axis in LFS is stuck at 50%, and the throttle and brake pedals operate the throttle axis.

Before I reset the wheel, the control panel shows both pedals at 100% as well.

Has anyone else run into this kind of problem?
