I used to drive on servers in the UK when I was in Dubai..that's 3000 miles and I had no issues like this.

Now I'm in the UK and driving on UK servers with 33 ping, and all was fine until a few days ago.

Also, it's not normal lag where the cars stop for a few seconds and then 'warp' further down the track. The entire screen freezes along with the sound for about half a second and then restores for half a second.

Hmm, no it only happens online.
Lag only at start

Hi,
This problem has only recently started happening. At the start of each race, there is severe lag where both frames and sound stutter really badly until the first corner. It doesn't respond to my controls during the freeze moments either.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?

Ah, fantastic! Thanks very much!

Quote :And I see you are in Dubai , a teammate of ours just moved over there, but doesn't have a computer to play LFS on

Cool! It sucks that he doesn't have a computer though...he'd better do something about that soon eh!

Tell him to check out www.tbreak.com if he's in to gaming etc. It's a Dubai-based site...might be a good place for him to meet people here with similar interests. He can email me james[at]pcanalyst.co.uk too..if he wants :P

He'll be needing a computer first though... =D

EDIT: got the URL wrong :s

You mentioned that the /track format had changed. Do you have a list of track 'codes' that can be used in the dedicated server config file?

Thanks.
Latest Patch U: Dedicated server problems
-Steed-

I updated the server with the latest patch, and the config files no longer work. It's something to do with /track on line 8.

If I give the track a bogus name it says "invalid track".

If I give the track a proper name it says "Paramiter 8 is invalid."

Help?

They actually make a PC version of the same steering wheel. Do a search, I saw it on sale in Virgin if that helps.
Dedicated Server Track Names
-Steed-

I've looked all over for a list of the track names that you use in dedicated servers (e.g. /track=AS1) but can't find a thing.

I'm trying to set up a dedicated server, and in the config file I've put

/track=AS3

However, when the server loads it says unknown track.

I then type "/track AS3" in the console and it loads without a hitch.

What is wrong? Anybody know of a site that lists the correct track names with their relevant server codes?

Quote from Slidaaaa :Hehe, if you are talking about XRT at BLGP, i can do 1:26 whit KS, and im not even racer, steering wheels does needs a lot of practice, does yours have Force Feedback ? If not, it should be pretty hard to drive fast, if it does, you definitely needs practice and try searching for real life racing techniques, they work just right on LFS.

ps: its all about tires...

Oohh, yeah I have a force feedback wheel. Not sure how good it is though, it's quite old (AVB Force Feedback). Still, I'll keep at it. Thanks for the tips!

Hmm, so in conclusion; it's not my controler, it's my skill that's holding me back.

Ouch!

I don't know. I've watched fast players racing, and tried to copy what they do, but they seem to break sooner than my car allows (If I break that late, I skid).

Also, KB + Mouse is what I meant.
Steering Wheel Vs. Keyboard
-Steed-

I've been using a steering wheel in LFS from the word go, but it seems to me that all the winners in Blackwood are using keyboards. They get times around 1:24, whilst I have tried and tried (using the same setup) and can't break 1:28.

Is it because that setup was tuned more for keyboard than for steering wheels, is it just because I'm a crap racer, or is it because steering wheel pedals are analogue (gradual accelleration/breaking), whilst keyboards are digital (instant accelleration/breaking)?
