Quote from dawesdust_12 :Uh LJF. You only need to start steam ONCE in online mode, then swap to offline. After that you can launch it offline as much as you want.

Oh is this how it works. I have been annoyed with this for like the last 7 years every time my internet has gone down and I have wanted to play a game.

Quote from Deejayyaj :Oh really??? "which uses it for a video"

a source code of Steam
<div class="flash_ctn">
<div id="movie_80497" class="highlight_flash_player_notice" style="display: none; padding-top: 200px;">
<p>You need to have a specific Flash Player installed to view video content in Steam. Please follow <a href="javascript:GotFlashPopup()">these directions</a> to get the right version for Steam.<br><br>You will need this Flash player even if you already have the latest player for your default web browser.</p>
</div>
</div>
<div class="video_info_bar ">

so whats your deal? go with LFS over Steam or NOT? thats poll deal here.

I probably should have been more clear, I meant that no page displayed by default (which appear to be loaded as soon as you load steam) uses flash.
The only pages on the entire steam site that use flash are specific store pages, and that is only for video. Flash does not actually run unless you start the video mind you.

Quote from Deejayyaj :
Flash Ads? and what do you call a game that has a BUY option changing from 1 game to another game info? Isn't that some called commercial game ads in steam that are built in flash or web flash?

None of the web pages displayed in steam (such as the store page) use flash (apart from one page which uses it for a video).

Quote from Psysim :Steam requirements:
512 MB

LFS requirements:
256 MB

So thats one damn good reason not to have steam, before you get on a server you require twice as much ram, without actually playing a game, I think that would be a poor show from LFS. If its not broken, don't try to fix it.

Interesting, I have never actually read the requirements for steam. I just did check them and they are a bit of a surprise to me as it never uses more than ~20mb of ram. I guess the recommendation is that people have enough ram for steam + any game that may be running through it.

Quote from Deejayyaj :BIG NO!!!

1)Its hard to connect on steam
2)Eat lots of memory (graphic interface and too many flash ads)

Firstly steam (for me anyway) is easy to get connected and uses 15mb of ram, which for me is less than my AV and MSN.

Secondly (directed at the idea in general, and I know I am going to be hated for saying this), the sort of attitude that is present in the steam suggestion threads I have seen over the years is one of my main problems with LFS / the players. It seems nearly everyone is hostile to the idea of more players coming to LFS.
Every time I have seen a thread like this with that sort of attitude in I have wondered would it really be that bad if more people played? There's always people moaning that there's not enough people on when they want to play.
I guess I could see some peoples point about the quality of players going down but who really cares that much, and would it really have any effect?

It also seems that people think that if LFS is sold on steam instantly every bad person would buy it, which obviously wouldn't happen. If someone was planning to buy LFS just to ruin peoples experience online by crashing/wrecking then IMO they would do it no matter how its sold. But saying that, how many people actually spend £24 just to try and ruin other peoples experiences? It seems like a bit of an expensive way to troll people.
The people who would buy LFS on steam would be the same sort of people who buy it now (People who want a racing sim I would presume). It would just be more visible to those people.

Some sims are already sold on Steam (admittedly not any real racing sim but other sims, ArmA etc are) and it hasn't had any visible negative effect on their communities (in fact I would say the increase in the playerbase of ArmA due to steam has been a good thing)

So in short I guess I am saying that I would like to see LFS sold on steam (and other DD places). However I cannot see it happening, I mean 100% of profit going to developers vs a % being taken for Valve.

Quote from xfirestorm :As much as it's "fun" debating it, but in the end, I think the software developers will decide if to sell it on steam or not. After all, it's their software.
If they listened to all of us, just search the forum through and see what all would we have in the game.

You have to admit it would be one hell of game if they listened to every single post on this forum.

Quote from Woz :Sigh. I knew once Valve had ported the source engine to MacOS that this would happen. For Mac fans here are some facts.

1) Valve have deep pockets and lots of devs and big customer base.
2) Source engine comes from and is influenced by iD engines which supported OGL etc from the out set.
3) The Valve games running native on Macs in OGL still only get 1/2 framerate of Windows!
4) Apple and hardward makers never bothered to optimize for games as there were no games.
5) I doubt LFS was designed for anything apart from DirectX
6) There is only 1 developer to do the port.
7) Macs are less than 10% of PC market how many would buy LFS?
8) The port is a LOT of work.

Just get over it and dual boot!

Not to mention they have spent the last 3 or 4 years working on (the job advert was posted in late 06 / early 07)

I was just wondering, does this still work (I assume it does)? Mainly the OutGauge stuff, as I don't seem to get any sort of OutGauge packet at all and I'm not sure if I am just setting it up wrong or if it doesn't work. I tried both setting it in the cfg file and connecting via InSim and attempting to start OutGauge (It said "OutGauge Enabled" in game, but still nothing was received)

Thanks in advanced.

Edit: Nevermind it seems to work, I changed the ID from 0 to 1 and it suddenly started to work. Did I fail to read some instructions somewhere?

I have a quick (semi) releated question to LFSTweak etc, apologies in advanced if this has already been covered in this thread or it cant be discussed etc. I was wondering what do you guys use to find the memory addresses and their values?
