Race Green Westhill Tourist Trophy 2023 - information and discussions

Last year we dared to host our 1st ever event that runs vehicles with less than 4 wheels - the time trial type event using bikes on the Westschleifenring circuit. Even if interest was not high,it was still an interesting challenge,so this year we gonna try again and run the event in same format. There are only 2 differences between the years - this year several high performing bikes have been removed from options list and there will be 2 laps around the track to complete instead of just a single one.

The track itself has not changed - still the same Westschleifenring, the simplified version of the annual 300km car race venue, but with addition of 2nd lap the distance of a run has been increased to 21.83 kilometers, which is expected to be completed in around 9 minutes for the fastest riders. A total of 28 different bikes are open for selection, ranging from a simple motorcycles to high performing superbike class machines, including some historic machines, mixxed up with bikes that are not really meant for road racing. Again - despite the performance differences between these machines, all what will matter will be the skill of a rider - slower machine will be earlier in finish without falls than faster one which spends a lot of time getting up from falls.

To help out riders to finish their runs,we will offer once again insim help - an application that will put your fallen bike back to wheels without repairing damage and if needed - also turn the bike 90°. This is to ensure realistic possibility of read bike riding - poeple can back on bike after simple falls and continue the run despite some bruises. Still it is highly suggested to everyone willing to participate to join the event server before actual event and have some practice, set up the bike[s] and get to know the track!

Timetable:
Sunday,11th June
16:30 UTC / 18:30 CET - start of 3 hours open track time trial mode
19:30 UTC / 21:30 CET - end of session,no new runs can be started, all riders on track can still finish their runs
* the shown CET time is current (summer) time - if not residing in CET time zone, always refer to UTC for correct time zone convertion!

Guidelines during the event:
* Server will be password protected and password will be posted in this thread. No signups required.
* Riders will be allowed to start their runs with approx. 30 seconds gap.
* At the start of the session all riders will be called out in connections order, after the order has been complete, riders have to request a run by clicking on host's name (Race Green Events) in connections list and type "requesting a run". Riders will be queued in requests order and administration will allow them to join track, riders will have approx. 10 seconds time to join.
* There is no limit how many runs a rider can take, however it can be limited by amount of other participants and their run requests.
* In case of a fall, riders can put up the bike on wheels with command ";flip" (semicole+flip),there will be 2 seconds delay between command has been typed and executed. An additional command ";turn" (semicole+turn) will turn the bike 90° to the left direction. Note that commands are available only when the bike is stationary!
* There are no restrictions in bike or it's setup usage, however slick tyres are strongly suggested. In final results rider will be scored with best time of the session and the bike the time was set with.
* It is expected riders are familiar with the track and the bike they have selected, make sure you have at least some practice before the event.
* As per standard LFS rules, touching movable objects will add 2 seconds penalty, false start - 30 seconds penalty. These penalties will have affect the result of the run.

Rules:
* In case a faster rider has cought a slower one,the slower rider has to act similary as under blue flag - rider may not block an overtaking attempt, while faster rider has to pass in safe manner.
* It is forbidden to change name during event - participants should select their name (the one you usually use and wish to be identified with) before start of the event.
* Absolutelly no stopping on track - if for some reason a rider cannot continue his run, spectate and request a new run when it's possible again.

Other info:
*Event server - server is online,is set in practice mode with pratice layout (no time trial start) and has an Airio for laptime tracking (due hexadecimal code, most mods laptimes cannot be shown on simple !top table). Airio can spectate connections with very high and unstable ping for safety reasons (stable connections even from Australia should not be affected). Server will be open for public use until event day. For private practice feel free to use the attached layout. Server link (click2join): Race Green Events
*Event will be held using the latest stable version of LFS (currently 0.7D),compatible older versions and test patches are tolerated.
*All information here can be changed,if so,notification will be posted about changes.

The short history of Westhill TT can be compared to the cars version of the event - also on the 2nd edition of Westhill endurance race with cars the attendance was low and also there just 4 entries saw the chequered flag. There were several tryers however, some of them tried more, some less, but still they were not able to finish the 2 laps run to get in race results. A total of 10 attempts to complete the 21.83km run were successful,4 of those were completed by event winner, each with different bike, remaining 6 were equally split between other 3 riders.

The defending champion returned also this year to defend the honor and he was not even properly challenged - his worst of 4 completed attempts using the slowest used bike was still 5 seconds faster than the best of the competition, however his 4th and last attempt set a time of 9 and a half minutes, averaging 137.8km/h through the course with his own built Chimera X1. That's 51 seconds faster than the best rival was able to do - Unite from S1dus team was the one to take 2nd position with his last try, running the historic GP250R. The finn completed the distance in 10 minutes and 21 seconds, averaging 126km/h,beating previous 2nd best time by just a half of a second. Despite 2nd attempt,Egor K's 1st try was his best and held 2nd position until late stage of the event, when it was pushed down to 3rd,also he set his best time with the Chimera. That's a good improvement compared to last year, where he finished 8th in results despite completing most attempts. The only other rider in results is Xëc,who tried 2 different GP bikes - his best result was with GP250R,completing course in just over 14 minutes, clocking average speed of 93km/h.

2nd best bike was Vulcan 998,which was used in Simox's 3rd run, just 2 seconds faster than GP250R,both bikes setting average speed of just over 130km/h,while event winner's 2nd attempt was made using the GP125 - that was his only attempt longer than 10 minutes. No other bikes saw an end of a run, even if several more were tried out - riders found out that the course is too challenging even for slower ones.

It's difficult to judge, what was the reason for the low interest - even if the event started at same time as BF1 League's final round, barely any of participants are seen in both of these events. Or was it the increased distance of a run,as this year 2 laps were to be completed instead of just one. Several bikes were not allowed to be used this year just to keep the speeds and difficulty level lower, which seemed to be the right choice. The 3rd edition of Westhill TT is currently under question mark,so let's wait and see what the future brings - if the event happens,it will be run just like in both previous editions - few weeks after the cars race around similar track.

Race Green Events thanks all riders for participation and guys behind the scenes for their input and efforts - voluntary testers and modders. As always everyone is welcome to share their experience from the event, either in form of text, pictures or videos! Also (even if that rarely happens) - we're awaiting winner's speach!
