Janeski,

I think you'd need to appoint an number of independent panelists to judge a demo user on the following points:

- Knowledge of Racing Etiquette / Rules
- Knowledge of LFS
- Contribution / Quality of community involvement.
- Activeness of racer in question.

You could make a combination of questionnaire and a test to determine both a score (on the rules etc) and write here spaces to gather information on other factors (community participation etc).
Quote from Captain Slow :you could set up an endurance event with no time or lap limit. whoever racees longest gets the license. it could go on for weeks. muhahahaha. then random s2 licensed people could join and spectate for a few minutes whenever they wanted.

It's a great idea.

Faster111 I think it was said there was a demo mouse comp for people. Whoever won got an S2 license, I didn't believe him and I think I was right to cos I don't think it ever got won.
Pictures of the entrant (holding that days newspaper for slight proof) should be a must too...

Basically you are giving them £24, so they should be made to do quite a bit. A questionaire, a small essay (about a thousand words) and a complete the following sentence type thingy sound about right to me.
Just have moles in demo servers looking out for players with good sportsmanship. Nominees would be named on a private forum, where one is either picked at random, or a panelist goes out on the demo servers at random to give the first nominee he sees the prize - randomizing device.
Nominees would be reviewed by panelists to filter out the flukes.

This is what makes LFS' online play great: player's that're great to race with. They should be the ones most deserving a free license.
Quote from AndroidXP :Fastest lap on BL1R in reverse gear.

Seriously best suggestion in this thread so far.

Skinning comp, with the proviso that all skins are to be public.

It shows dedication, and also it benefits the community more than 40 crap essays would.

it did happen and the license was won, just not by him!

then you need i surgury. Which coincidentally my mum now has, she now has >25:20 vision. She is a bionic woman.
how about the first demo user that posts here wins lol?

or make a bad joke about it, and have some fast racer act like a demo person and whatnot, and have them race and whoop them at blackwood

ahhh haha that would be great
First person to beat Biggie's WR (you won't have to cough up in a hurry either )
Quote from ajp71 :First person to beat Biggie's WR (you won't have to cough up in a hurry either )

Biggie doesn´t have any WR with the demo combos so they will have to crack the game.
First person to make the longest autocross layout on Blackwood without using cracks. lol.
Quote :Would it be a lottery, competition or something completely different?

I think there should be a competition that everyone can win, why not have it so that the competitors pay £24 to the devs, those who successfully complete the task get a copy of LFS, and those who don't luck out - in any case, this competition supports multiple winners so nobody has to walk away dissapointed.
Altruism at its best!
Quote from Janezki :erm... one occasion only, since this one's from my purse...
Motivators.... mm.. well, I'm just having a good mood and I'd like to share my happy feelings...

I'd rule out all racing competitions, since they are kinda hard to organize with that amount of entries.

You could just join a few demo servers incognito, and give a license to whoever you deem worthy (as I think a few on here have done before).

Serp.
What about the demo player who's driven at least 5000 miles with the least number of kick / ban votes against them per mile?

If there's more than one person who's never had a kick / ban vote, then whoever's driven the furthest.

Clean driving and dedication rewarded.
Really depends on why your doing it? If its designed as a reward then you must set an acheivable task that is competitive.

I 'd like to teach the demo guys that wrecker dickhead stuff is bad news, I'd like to have S2 volunteers "patrol" anonymously (spectate) at random demo servers and over a 1 mth period.

Keep tabs on good courteous drivers we'd love to see in LFS S2 then we collate the vote and the cleanest best & fairest driver gets the reward keep it going every month and I bet the demo servers will calm down and produce great racers

Just my suggestion

But how do you want to control that?

One can just claim to never have been kicked or banned. I dont think, theres a way to prove that.

And IIRC, also the driven distance for demo users doesnt get recorded.
Online stats for demo users don't get uploaded to LFSW.

Fair enough -- I have no idea how hard / easy it would be for Victor to record such things. Just a speculative thought about how one might reward the right sort of demo driver. Don't worry though, Zeugnimod, I wasn't proposing that we just trust the little monsters on this.
If I was you, I´d give it to faster111
He sure has shown some dedication towrads LFS, with just under demo license. Despite the spelling difficulties, I think he if anyone with demo status should deserve it.

My 2 cents.

Have you ever seen him on the track?
